    It's hard to tell the improvement with the camera eye but I think I see it. Interesting stuff to watch here.

      If I had taken more time on it, and started with one that was a little dirtier, I think the improvement would be more readily visible.

    Absorene does work but it takes forever. It is highly recommended for easy to remove dust, but unless you are dealing with a book that you are able to spend 1 hour cleaning then I go with the magic eraser or more advanced methods. Most cleaners have too many books to work on to waste so much time on one book.

      on average I spend anywhere from 3 to 10 hours when I clean a book and I have thousands that I need to clean, magic eraser in my opinion should be purged from every cleaners kit I have never had a case where it did not remove some of the color gloss, Now don't get me wrong it's great for cleaning some things such as regular books (both paper and hard bound) as well as some toys. But not for comics. I personally don't think that one hour is nearly enough time to clean a comic unless it is just spot cleaning on a few areas..

      @@KollectingKaoshey good stuff man, great work! I was wondering the difference cuz there’s two types I noticed, there’s the one you’re using and there’s one with blue lettering, is there a difference?
      And one more thing: I see a lot of people reusing their Absorene. Is it because they don’t just use that and use other cleaning products as well?

    • @KollectingKaos

      @@MikeV671 I think the color difference is just a redesign of the container.
      I use absorene sparingly and usually after I have used additional dry cleaning methods, I also use it to remove some of the left over residue when doing sticker removal.

    you turn the book over into where you've cleaned any dirt off with the absorene, you should be cleaning the surface regularly before and after turning it or you will be pressing the dirt back into the book

      Good eye, and I will revisit the process using a little more detailed instructions.

    Im just getting in to cleaning. My question is: Do you clean differently with this product depending on the age of the book?

    • @KollectingKaos
      @KollectingKaos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I t really depends on the condition of the book, if the cover on the older comic is thin or weak and has a lot of creases I do not recommend using it at all. See my last Free Form Friday video as to why. In that video I treated the comic from 1949 the same as I would one from the seventies and I paid the price for it.

    Try finger cots. They are more comfortable than gloves.

    Can you use this item on a comic book in which the glue residue that was left attached to the comic from a peeled sticker that is no longer there? Residue is still sticky...(Modern comic)

    • @KollectingKaos
      @KollectingKaos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it would work as it doesn't have any solvents in it that I know of.

      Use a tack iron to heat the residue and then use a plastic blade to remove it. Then buff with a cotton round or similar.

    Did you use a different camera filter to take a picture of the right hand comic? It looks more yellow than the left.

    • @KollectingKaos
      @KollectingKaos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      both were done on the same flat bed scanner, no changes were made (other than resizing), those are the raw scans. if I remember right the one on the left that you sad was more yellow was done first and the one on the right was done after the cleaning. So if it looks a little yellow that might be a by product of the absorene, additional cleaning steps would probably help that.
      I made this video over a year ago and do intend to revisit it in the near future with other comics.

    • @OhHeyJayJay
      @OhHeyJayJay 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KollectingKaos hey thanks for the quick reply. The one on the right was the yellowish one. I ask because today I tried absorene for the first time and it started turning my comic yellow. Less dirty but more yellow and a little more transparent. I typically use DI water as a wet cleaning method but also use the magic eraser and artist eraser for dry.

      @@OhHeyJayJay I quit using the magic eraser, it removes to much of the cover gloss.

    • @OhHeyJayJay
      @OhHeyJayJay 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KollectingKaos there’s a thin film of dirt and oil on comics, and then there’s the gloss layer. It is extremely hard to find the right pressure to use to lift the excess and not the gloss, very good call but I still use it frequently but not excessively. It’s weird because sometimes when I use a very aggressive artist eraser method with some substantial pressure- I get the best results. But when I use that absorene I destroy the comic even with the lightest pressure. But I do want to note to everyone NEVER EVER EVER use absorene on non glossy comics lmao 🤣 that was my blunder of the week I knew better but whoops

      I use it much slower than what that 4 year old video shows.
