    I had a friend whose dad was a huge Thompson collector. He had several consecutive serial numbered M1928s that were formerly used by the Flint Michigan PD and I believe he had one that was a US Postal service weapon. My grandfather carried M1 Thompsons on every mission he flew as a Hump pilot.

    The Thompson is such an iconic Gun. The British Royal Marines, had a number of them during the war, but the front sling swivel, was positioned on the side of the front stock as opposed to underneath.

  • @65stang98

    i was born too late. i wouldve bought so many of these to collect after the war and during the golden age of the surplus stuff at gunshows stores etc. now everything is priced out the booty bc of demand vs supply. almost impossible to find a thompson in any condition less than 30k

  • @michaelhorn4540
    @michaelhorn4540 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I love Thompsons and their workmanship and have had one of the military versions with the horizontal foregrip , smooth barrel, and no compensator and only took stick magazines and I have also owned a 1928 which had the vertical foregrip, finned barrel, compensator, and a 50 round drum magazine. It was an awesome caliber, but they were so incredibly heavy, especially with a drum, and I found them unreliable and prone to jam frequently.

    • @rmo52
      @rmo52 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They were not “crappy guns”. The 1921s were carefully made by Colt. Wartime Tommys were just fine too.

    • @potheadmike8510
      @potheadmike8510 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rmo52 - I hear the recoil makes them jump around, making it hard to hit a target from any considerable distance. That's why only a few was put to use in the war.

    • @rmo52
      @rmo52 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hardly. They were shipped to our troops by the 100,000s at a time in WW2. Difficulty of handling is up to the gunners’ training and ability. My uncle carried one throughout the Pacific and it worked fine for him. Take care.
