    Note: As Kevin found out in a later video where he pulled the entire wheel hub off - the majority of the oil sits in the hub, between the inner and outer wheel bearing. There is actually quite a lot more oil sitting in there than one can easily access. What is shown in this video is primarily how to check and maintain hub oil levels. But the only way to perform a complete hub oil change is to pull off the entire hub. But thanks Kevin - this is another great, detailed video that provides a number of tips that are really useful.

    Thank you for this, it is super helpful! I'm going to add this to my maintenance schedule for my Bounder with W22 chassis now that I know how easy it is

    Thanks Kevin for doing this video. I have a 2017 Diesel pusher with a Freightliner XCR chassis and I need to change the gear oil in my hubs, so your video is exactly what I wanted to see. I appreciate the tip about the magnetized cap. I will check to see if my cap is like yours when I take it out. I will do mine with the wheels on, so I will use my oil changer to suck out the oil. Hopefully that will prevent a mess....

    Re: Your comment on new tires - I too had the exact same issue (2005 W22 chassis) on my front wheel Michelin tires (dated 2011). Lots of tread left, but noted some small side checking which started to appear on the sidewalls near the bead. Rear tires of same date were fine with no cracks at all. One can access on the MIchelin site a chart which defines how serious sidewall cracks are in your MIchelin tires:

    Further note on tires: While I think that Michelin makes great tires, they can be pricey. So when I discovered that one of my front Michelin tires (On my 2005 W22 chassis) had some severe cupping in the tread (I believe due to being unbalanced) I did some research on replacements. Found a number of people who suggested Toyo tires - a brand with which I also had good experience.. Found then on Amazon for 1/2 the cost of Michelin - and they shipped them from to California to Maine for free shipping (Prime). Closest size they had was Toyo M-154 All Season Radial 245/75R 22.5. These had the exact same load ratings as my Michelin 235/80R 22.5, and were within 1/16" total diameter. Tires also (at 88lbs ea) were a few pounds heavier than Michelin. Had spin balancing done by the tire dealer, and I also installed bead balancing rims as well. I now also regularly spray my ties with 303 Product Aerospace Protectant to provide UV protection against sidewall rubber deterioration. After putting almost 5k miles on these they have worked great and I highly recommend them. Hi Kevin another great video...thanks! FYI my owners manual for my 2003 Workhorse W-22 says to use 90W GL5 not 80-90W GL5...strange that it would be different for a W-22 vs a W-24 (which I believe yours is).

      Going by memory I don't think I could locate none synthetic 90w GL5 oil, our seals are not made for synthetic oils FYI

    Thanks for this, as we have our first motorhome, which is a Tiffin Phaeton diesel coach, and after seeing the bill the previous owner paid for this job, I thought I'd look into doing so myself! You mention it can be done with the wheel 'on', so that's truly helpful, as I don't really have the tools to start taking my coach wheels off, as I'm assuming the torque on those wheel nuts must be pretty high! I do have a torque wrench, which would help I'm sure, plus I'm unsure of what torque that should be re-applied when installed again? Interesting too, that the 'old' oil you took out, looks very much like the new oil you put 'in'! Making me wonder if the 'oil company' is the one helping to make the manual, telling the owners to change more frequently? Perhaps, depending on how much is on the drain plug magnet, one could go by that as well? Truly glad for folks like yourself, helping us knew owners out on these projects! I'm hoping to do my own oil changes and filter changes as well, until I'm too old to do it, but in the meantime, help save some $$ for the cost of fuel in these coaches!

    Thanks for this video. How tight did you tighten the screws? Is there a Certain torque?

    • @ktoutdoor

      I'm sure there is but i just used the torque wrench that's in my elbow . you can google bolt torque charts and can find info based on the thread size.

    Hi Kevin, I have a 2004 Monaco LaPalma on a w22 chassis and just wondered what you use to jack up your rig. I do all my own work on my diesel pickups but don't have a jack bigger than 3 1/2 ton

    • @ktoutdoor
      @ktoutdoor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      With our w24 general maintenance I dont did a jack it has good clearance. For the brake job a did I used the hydraulic Jack's but i of course would not go under the RV some heavy duty jack stands would be nice.
