No joke, this version might be one of my favorite songs the band has ever done. Just all over it. I wish it was higher quality and the instrumentals were cleaned up but god-damn it's amazing.
Heartbroken that there are currently no plans to revive this on a physical release or reissue (I’m looking at you, box set). Such a brilliant version of an already brilliant song.
@@someone7554 After Tremulant, but before Deloused. I believe on this version (as well as possibly the re-recorded Eunuch Provocateur) they had just started working with Rick Rubin.
I just found out about this version and would like to share my thought process. At first it didnt hit as well as the official tremulant release, although I liked the emotion in Cedric’s vocals quite a bit more. Then the ending, it hit me like a train. The way Cedric’s voice goes beyond outer space with those backing humming and continued instrumentals… I still like the official release more, but that’s only because the instrumentals in this version are not as throughoutfully remastered. This with a remastered audio is in contention to be the best volta song ever Edit: ok it actually is my favorite version now
You and me both. Been a fan since Relationdhip Of Command and followed TMV and Sparta closely. NEVER heard this till in this moment right now. Why mess with an already amazing song. @3:47 I hear why. 😮😮😮
When I bought "De-loused in the Comatorium" it was around the time the album was new, the picture of the man-o-war above was accidentally flipped around and sold to me as the front cover. So for a little while I had thought this picture was the front cover but it was just a packaging error. Random story
That was no error, some of the first pressings of the cd had the paper flipped on purpose They vinyl also had a book that was exclusive for the first pressing
That is actually worth some money. A batched was shipped wrong. I had the same. Let a friend borrow and never saw it again. The book and everything was printed to have the squid guy as the front
This was supposed to be the front cover. It’s actually all the copies with egghead on the cover that are wrong. Omar said the record label fucked them on that. Storm made this image specifically as the cover.
For years now, I have been unable to pick one version over the other: - I find the instrumental from the Tremulant one much, much better (Ikey's organ, dear lord...). - Cedric's singing on this one crushes the Tremulant one to pieces.
Yes to both points but most importantly they CUT OUT MY FAVORITE PART!!! The end of the Tremulant version (“and this debt will collect...”’) is the climax of the song in my opinion and this version is just lacking without it. I have no idea why then took that part out, that’s how they play it live too from what I have seen.
This version, easily. I wish the instrumentals were cleaner-mastered, but overall this one has a momentum I never felt with the Tremulant version. This is the Concertina I can’t stop overplaying or get out of my head.

SmittenTheKitteninMittens The final minute of Take the Veil is fittingly operatic to end on, but it should lead into this alright. It tells the story of what really happened to Cerpin Taxt in a different dimension, our dimension. I also see it working in the beginning, starting with a real tragedy, and then Son et Lumiere / Inertiatic ESP kicks off the story of where their friend went after that. It probably works best as the closer to the album though.
