I never try to pull off any welded on strips though I might trim them - pull a hole and the cell is junk. Also easier to solder to a pre-existing tag without cooking the cell.
I've found 21700 cells have a much stronger shell than 18650 cells, but I totally agree, those cheap lg purple cells are junk and just pop holes in the case every time I ever try and remove a spot weld
You do some pretty cool battery projects... I wish I had an ebike battery built with either those Samsung 50e, or the Molicell cells - as from what I've seen they seem to be the best cells to use for power & range... I could well be wrong, as my knowledge on ebike batteroes is very limited 😅
Wait there's more, haha There's some newer tabless 21700s out recently. Like 100amps discharge per battery, or least double these standard 50Es and molicells. Crazy, so all standard 21700 should come down in price.
@paulr3556 wowzers, 100?!? That's amazing, I though Molicell had it wrapped up with their best ones, but these sound amazing...geez, I can imagine my e-build with one built with these in my 52v20ah triangle battery...Hmmm, bet they ain't cheap though?!?
@@MickyBee73 Think that reviewer said tabless is actually cheaper to make than traditional cells with tabs, so we'll see. Hopefully it brings down ALL prices. Hey, if governments want to push their green net-zilcho, then they should be free, 9r least heavily subsidised by governments. Haha Never happen sadly.
That auto spot welder seems too powerful and/or too much pressure. You don't need much, good to test on some dead batteries first to get setting correct. Also I had similar thing happen when welding prongs too close to the edge of strips, including those holes to show you where to weld, the slits in the actual strips. It blasts edge to smitherines.

@paulr3556 We can only hope Paul 👍
Yet another great video,
Thankyou! Lots in the works...
Brilliant work, cheers
Thank you! Cheers!

Thanks, I've done some adjustments since this video and it's going much better now! I'll be doing a full video on it soon
did your docreate spot welder die?
It isn't doing great welds anymore, this new one should be able to keep up!
You can smooth the nibs off with a Dremel grinder
Good idea! But if I scratch the top of the cells, I believe the coating comes off and it is prone to rust
the pressure is far to high and the power also too high
I've done some fiddling since this, and I'm getting it down thankyou :) full video coming on the welder
sorry to bother you, but how much does that welder cost?
