he didn't come to india so we were disappointed. But when veteran cup was played after few years he was major wicket taker. in the final against India he took four wickets still we made 264 vengasarkar hit 100 . but richards gave victory to WI. garner was MOM. that time we saw him bowling. his yorkers were really perfect and deadly.
Joel was always my favourite of the West Indies quicks. My memory tells me he played more unplayable deliveries than anyone else. The bounce and accuracy are unreal.
Curtly Ambrose and Glen McGrath would follow his lead in the next few decades. Garner had a bit more pace than both of them but the effect of bounce and accuracy was their bread and butter deliveries that made them so hard to face and score off them.
What about Dennis Lillie, a great bowler of that time? He did all of those things you described, yet he is an all time great. Every Individual player has their own personality, it has nothing to do with what generation they played in.
Today's generation players especially bowlers and even some batsmen should learn by watching this great legends behaviour on the field with opposit teams
I really really missing my best team West Indies in the world cup cricket . Why man what happened to the mighty West Indies??? I wanna see them again. बहुत सूना सूना लगता है जब बचपन से देखें हुए टीम को इस वर्ल्ड कप में नहीं पाता हूं।,😟
Agree with brother, no big hue and cry, no celebrations as being done on these days. Remember, all these players are simply great and they don't show their flimsy celebration on the ground... Real gentleman... Missing all these players in current year...
Beyond WI dominance in world of cricket in late 70,80s as everyone knows. But channel 9 commentary team panel of Richie benuad,Tony Greig,Ian Chappell, Keith stakpole,Bill lawry voice are amazing to get more viewers brought to watch cricket. RIP Toney Greig. Your voice is never forget.world of cricket never forget.
I remember this guy from the 80s. Fast/meduim bowler with great accuracy, & a vicious bouncer. He was a good striker of the ball as well - he played several gems, consisting of some massive sixes. Not only a great test & one-day player - he would have been well suited to the 20/20 game today.
Difficult to imagine this member Joel of the WI Firebirds club taking wickets of 2 world famous batting legend Kepler wessels & Allan border looks as if they have just started playing 1st class cricket. No expression from his teammates knowing that Garner spills his fire sprinkler - taking it granted !!
WI pace attack was so much fiery, accurate & with pace , imagine if DRS system would have been their on those days , maybe WI could have not used that. Great respect to WI pace attack. 👏
Cricket was better before drs mate. It's the players attitudes and the money that intruded onto the scene , which compromised the integrity of the game. Drs farkn sucks
Waqar Younis alone has 13 five fors in way less than 300 ODIs , a feat not even achieved by Murli, Akram , or any bowler to date, he also had loads of 4 fors
This is truly classic, quick and skilful fast bowling. Kids today might bowl faster in kmph, but none of them can create the fear that guys like Garner did.
I was a young boy when Garner was bowling and I don’t think I fully comprehended how good he was. Malcolm Marshall was my favourite. By the time Curtly hit the scene I was more aware. Wow. What a bowler, more aggressive than Garner but probably equally fearful. Anyway, we were privileged to have seen them.
Imagine what would be the condition of the opposition batsmen had Garner and Ambrose played together for the WI....both tearsome fast bowlers with enviable height
I do recall that in this 1983/84 WSC,the second final between Australia and the WI ended in a tie,and the WI players were not happy that they had to play the 3rd final (this YT clip) the following day, hence the lack of jubilation and celebrations from the WI players during this 3rd final.
How's the stoic response from Garner and the West Indies team when they take a wicket! Love it, not like today where if a player ties his shoelace correctly its cause for frenzied celebration
I must say that Wayne Phillips looked very satisfied indeed to be out. As for GeoffLawson, interesting tactics. I’ve never seen anybody take guard near the square leg umpire before.
I see so much of Garner's action in the way Ambrose bowled. Garner's was more fluid and Ambrose had a bit more zip. Both outstanding, tall fast bowlers.
No excitement, No appeal..No celebrations... nothing.. just walking back for the next delivery... I suppose in those days the celebration after wicket was pretty low, but ..Garner is straight from the REFRIGERATOR.

I loved Joel Garner he was such a gentleman.
My favorite bowler even now. The Big Bird
Seeing Joel Garner Now I understand why cricket is called Gentleman's Game 😊😊😊
Golden era of Caribbean cricket.
Joel was always my favourite of the West Indies quicks. My memory tells me he played more unplayable deliveries than anyone else. The bounce and accuracy are unreal.
GARNER AMBROSE MARSHALL ...MY ALL TIME BEST
AGREED
Andy Roberts
Curtly Ambrose and Glen McGrath would follow his lead in the next few decades. Garner had a bit more pace than both of them but the effect of bounce and accuracy was their bread and butter deliveries that made them so hard to face and score off them.
Big Bird any day... 👍👏👏👏
Real gentleman no celebration, no abuses, no weird faces. Compare today's players.
Yeah, no abuses only physical abuse.
it is far better today. you feel like a sport. here it looks like no one cares what is happening.
What about Dennis Lillie, a great bowler of that time? He did all of those things you described, yet he is an all time great.
Every Individual player has their own personality, it has nothing to do with what generation they played in.
Super man
@user-wo9sh2ho5l😂
Such a clean, simple, and casual bowling action. So graceful.
Today's generation players especially bowlers and even some batsmen should learn by watching this great legends behaviour on the field with opposit teams
No overacting, no crazy celebrations. After getting wicket of top order batsmen walks back to his mark for business.
Well said
At that time WI bowlers knew that they wr unplayable, no batsman hit them like today's batsman can, so no need to cheer 😜
Very well said sir
@@vyasaddison4561 these days bowlers get tail ender wicket and act crazy haha

This is what cricket was... The real game... Big grounds, nice gentlemen, classy bowlers...
@muhammadsaadansari
Cricket is still a great game. Stop pining for the past.
158 Wickets, at 18.8.
Big Bird is without doubt, the greatest one-day bowler ever.
No one could hit him.
Garner rarely got hit. Imran Khan though could get under him at Sharjah on 1985 or so n had hit 4 sixes in an over.
@@AmitSharma-mk8vs I would've loved to have seen that because i don't believe it
@@jahno7154 it's fact...but I think Imran hits 3 huge sixes in his over.
@@jahno7154 imran hits 3 sixes in 1 over of Bedi and finished his career....after that Joel garnar.
@@honestbrave7836 Joel Garner was 35 that's what finished Garner's career
Before my birth , my god dangerous bowling by WI 👍🏻
what a gentleman bowler Garner was, no reaction after taking wicket, no showing fingers to batsmen or talking with batsmen or thumping air
Absolutely LOVED the 70s and 80s west Indian teams ...soooooo many amazing characters and players....awsome
Jeol Garner is very nice player in cricket. Very sporty person. 🙏🙏
Agree with brother, no big hue and cry, no celebrations as being done on these days. Remember, all these players are simply great and they don't show their flimsy celebration on the ground... Real gentleman... Missing all these players in current year...
The best pace battery ! The best hunting pack of all times ! Proud to have seen their live action during my teens ! Thanku❤😊
His bowling run up is like walk in the park and action so simple but so lethal😮
Thanks for uploading.
One of the greatest bowlers in West indies.
best odi bowler ever

i was born in 1984 😃... My father was great fan of west indies team specially marshal and garner sir
Joel Garner was always awesome! His ODI career economy rate was just above 3 !
I remember this guy from the 80s. Fast/meduim bowler with great accuracy, & a vicious bouncer. He was a good striker of the ball as well - he played several gems, consisting of some massive sixes. Not only a great test & one-day player - he would have been well suited to the 20/20 game today.
He was super fast Express bowler
@prashantnaganagoudar4102 He had a good bouncer, but he was fast medium. He got the ball to rear up from a good length which made him dangerous.
All time best fast bowlers in playing 11 test and odi
Roberts
Garner
Marshall 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great Players great commentary great Time.

Sad to see w.indies team today😢, hope we get same spirit of cricket.
Joel Garner is the best quick I've ever seen in the flesh, he was magnificent.
Wow. He was so quick of the wicket. I hvn, t seen such a fast bowler before. So tall and crafty. Must hv been an outstanding bowler of that era
First time seeing a bowler without any celebrations
I wish WI are back to what they were in the past.. They were the best team.
Excellent fast bowling spell by west Indian pacer joel garner against Aussies
Always cool Garner is.
Unpredictable bounce.
Excellent cricketer
The Big Bird Proved he was the Best in Business. J❤el Garner
All these players were simply legends....
Boony facing Big Bird sans helmet, bloody legend 🇦🇺
Ye sab purane match dekhkar bohot aachche lagte hai.
Amazing spell his line length bouncers and yorkers a treat to watch such a simple guy least bothered to even celebrate.
Indeed a Gentleman Fast Bowler.
Oh !Big bird the wizard of pace and bounce!
No celebration even after taking first wicket of match ♥️♥️♥️♥️
What a giant 😮😮😮😮
Those was the golden year of the west indies cricket team
What a bowler he was.. average in Odi 18.84 . 146 wickets.. test match average 20.97. 259 wickets.. unfortunately he not played many test matches….
A truly giant...
So great player of world

David Boon facing Garner in a cap. That's a brave man.
Makes my ODI XI all day, every day 🎉😊😊🎉❤😊❤
Didnt even bother to smile after a wicket....❤
He is one Bowler who I will never want to face! That Bounce rearing at your Throat was normal for the Bird!
The Big bird.. Cricket ball looked like a lemon in his hands delivered from atleast 8.5 ft..
That time was real furious fast bowling
The main feature was CANNOT BELIEVE..such was Australian umpiring
Bill Lawry all the way back in 1984 - classic!!!
Dhirshan Gobind
Yes, that grating high pitched voice...
What a majestic simple walk after getting the wicket by Joel corner👏
Imagine what would be the condition of the opposition batsmen had Garner and Ambrose played together for the WI....both tearsome fast bowlers with enviable height
Well, No need to imagine, Garner played alongside Marshall and Holding. So that was equally terrifying as bowling alongside Ambrose.
Ambrose was not profesional to that extent....
@@ninadgac To what extent. Check your figures mate. Curtly was as good as anyone
Kepler Wessels playin for Aussies 😆😆 1 of the few to do so in world cricket
Joel Garner the great fast bowler ❤👍🏏
He is a giant
West Indies Cricket Team - " FROM RICHES TO RAGS".
At times in cricketing umpiring history, teams such as the WI had to resort to clear cut disturbance of the stumps.😊
This Windies was something else 🔥
Great person Big Bird Joel Garner ✨️✨️
Garner×Narine❤
We used to collect photos of WI greats which were coming in Illustrated weekly in 70s and 80s..such a powerful team..all big names..
See the umpiring favouring Aussies. 😢
I love those spectators. Just regular people, going shirtless or wearing their chosen clothes, instead of sheep wearing merchandise.
No celebrations after taking wickets , no shouting .. Gentlemen’s game for sure then

They would've destroyed Sachin.
