- Our Second day of king of the hammers we woke up with a flat tire, I aired it up but it didn’t hold. Where do we find a 40 inch tire in the desert?

I’m NOT blaming Milestar tires for this failure, I’ve definitely put this tire through it’s paces and driven in less than ideal conditions. With that being said, thanks Milestar and BFG for help getting me on the trails again!
Honestly with the abuse and low pressure that the tires are ran at I am surprised that there is not more failures. And I would say that it is not the tires fault under the conditions that they are being used in. Thumbs UP to you Rudy! 👍

@@richardthomas1743 yes but what I don’t understand is why you can run a super swamper at the same pressure with the same abuse if not more, but that tire will not fail for years upon years, but everybody still praises the Mile stars for some reason. Now the Miles star is lighter and more than likely better for the street but he’s not on the street hardly ever so that shouldn’t matter.
@@aedanhudson1825 I’m not impressed with Patagonias, I am pretty sold on BFG’s. I have run them on so many rigs and rarely get a flat.

I know KOH is all about breaking stuff, but I don’t think I met a single person this year that didn’t have moderate to major mechanical failures.

Rudy, take a cue from Rory and go prepared. Tire plugs, tool kit, even a rudimentary survival kit with obligatory First Aid kit thrown in. You might even be able to help someone else out of a jam.
Why would he carry a spare tire when he barely puts fuel in his tank?
Same for Matt, he seems to basically carry nothing, tire plugs and air compressor should be a minimum. Especially for the jobs that are father out.

This is why you have radios so you can find your friends. Get a Baofeng and set it to a frequency your buddy is on before hammers

I regularly wheel around old railroad tracks and the rail spikes will put a hole in the tire you can stick your thumb through, it's nothing a dozen tire plugs can't fix🤣

Rudy feel for you, I went for 3- yrs without a spare on my F250. Within a week of getting one I had 2 flats

KOH looks amazing. It's good to see so many people gathered in one spot and helping each other, rather than getting drunk and making each other miserable. Although that may happen too.

No judgement. As a Dad I make sure my kids have everything they need in their vehicle. Certainly a tire iron to change a flat. Spare, small compressor and tire plugs though for a hole in the sidewall the tire is not usable. They also have a blanket and candles for cold weather winter months with extra footwear. Not always going to be in an area with 100 000 other people and full service tire tents. lol

In an emergency you can use silicone sealer and a bit of rag as a plug for small punctures.
Put a dob of sealer in the middle of a small bit of rag and fold the rag into a bag around the sealer.
Use screwdrivers to open up the hole enough to poke in the bag. If you have the pointed nozzle for the sealer try and put a bit more into the bag, now pull the bag back out a bit so that it jambs up against the inside of the tyre and some of the sealer squeezes out. Let it get tacky almost dry before inflating the tyre partially. Let dry fully before proceeding further.
You can also use virtually any other glue, it’s mostly the rag that does the job.
A milestar with a sidewall puncture? what are the odds? 😆

For something like the KOH area where there isn't cell service you could use FRS radios, or if everyone got a license GMRS (higher power). For finding each other "automatically" a ham license and a GPS/APRS enabled radio would be great.

It was good to meet you again! Me and my buddy stopped by and talked to you for a while right after you fixed your tire at your trailer.
I haven't carried a spare since 2016 or so on my 2007 1500 Dodge Ram. I do carry tire plugs and I have AAA. I drove to Texas from PA in Sept and just came back first week Jan too! That's about 1850 miles each way!

He said he left his tools with his Dad, who he couldn't find. Still should have a spare tho.

I'm amazed how TH-cam brings out the tiny penis know it all's. I did research you idiots. BFG's are WAY over priced. The people I spoke to that have the Patagonia tires love them. The only neg thing I heard was that they were noisy.

@@willrector9716 I've run different BFG's for over ten years and gotten plenty of flats. One even had the sidewall ripped open from a tree root sticking out of the ground. If you look at the street view of my house from Google Earth you could see the tire with a ripped sidewall where my spare should be, lol. The only way we're going to avoid flats is to only mall crawl. Even then you might pick up a screw or nail.
Note self bring tires , Pumper helmet , satellite phone, welder, big vise, torch, cordless tools, firewood, etc . Or just watch KOHs live stream at sports bar 😂

I enjoy watching your channel. When you go off roading things break. I had a flat on my 97 Blazer in a 2 week old Interco Swamper STX. A chunk of rebar punched through the sidewall. Not the tires fault...stuff happens...Made a great tire swing! I admit I wasn't happy and it was an expensive day. So far my new Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT's are working great on my 4Runner. Of course with only a 3" lift and mostly stock I'm not putting the kind of stress you guys put on your tires. I hope my tires last a long time. I look forward to getting out to Moab again and Sand Hollow sometime soon. Being from the Midwest it is a long ways away...

Yeah things happened, stuff broke. They scattered stuff across the desert. Lessons learned. But she brought a race jeep to KOH, in 60 days. And at one point in the race, was in sixth place. Nessie will finish in the top half, (or better) next year.
