- After trying to get my Comanche running I decided to check the fuel. We found out that someone has put sugar in my gas tank!!! Hopefully now we can start using the Comanche more often!

I'm willing to bet he purchased it with sugar in the tank and it only became an issue with the larger tires and agitation of the tank.
Years ago I bought an 87' Ranger that was sitting in a field. Previous owner told me he parked it because the damn thing was incredibly unreliable. I fixed what I thought was the issue and it ran great most of the time. Occasionally it'd spit and sputter, but for the most part is was all good. After I determined the 2.9l was healthy I started on my axle swap. I replaced the D28/7.5 with a D35/8.8 and went from the tiny 205/75/15 tires to 33's. It quickly became apparent it was lacking power with the new tires and something was wrong. I decided to go play with it down some seasonal roads and after a few miles of trail riding I could hardly keep it moving under its own power in 4low.
I drained the exact same mess out of the tank as the Comanche.

@@robertsassano4246 -- The vast majority of these petty crimes go UNinvestigated and UNprosecuted -- it's just the way it is. Ultimately, it is the prosecutor who has total discretion over which cases to prosecute and they usually go for the easy wins -- keeps their conviction rate up. :(

Rudy, I’ll put up $500 for info that leads to the apprehension and arrest of person with zero morals who put sugar in your tank. You handled the incident extremely well, not so sure I’d have been so calm, cool, & collected. Bravo & well done.
My suspicion: *The reason it was sold to you in the first place was because of this.* It had probably been cleaned out, but, all the sugar crystals higher in the tank never drifted down. When you went bumping and bouncing around, it mixed in all that extra sugar and started the same problems. You said you'd been through the fuel system before, but, you'd never looked in the tank right? Could have had the whole top of the tank coated in crusty syrup residue. Call up the guy you bought it from, I bet he's the one who scammed you. He probably tried to have it fixed twice and couldn't ever resolve it. Kept coming back.
The reason I like those cheep Clear plastic Filters. You can see what your gas looks like.

idk, possibly but i think it would’ve start running like shit again pretty quickly and there was a decent amount in there and sugar residue around the filler hole
@@r7blue I had a boat tank rusted inside, it was fine until I stirred it up going fast or choppy waters.
local small lakes it would run around all day idling, but hit the "speed/ski areas" and about 1/2 way around it was stirred up and plugged the intake mesh screen enough to collapse the primer bulb flat and kill the engine = dead in the water. wait 10 to 15 minutes it would settle and work ok again.
had vehicles that way also and serviced a few with sugar/powders(all had pickup socks)
Looks like it might be the time to buy a locking gas cap!

Very well handled Rudy and I'm really disgusted that someone felt the necessity to try and ruin what you do. They are nothing but cowards and lack the moral courage to confront you, if they have a problem. If I were honest Rudy, I'd have to say thay through their actions it has reinforced my commitment to you and your channel. I've got front and rear cameras in my 4x4 here🇬🇧.
Some things I've noticed.
•If it's a determined criminal, the camera won't deter them.
•You have to notice the criminal act within the camera memory storage before to overwrites. (Make sure the card is formatted!).
•There's no guarantee the police will be able to PID the criminal and or divert resources to the investigation so try social media as well.
•Make sure the dashcam night vision is great cos alot of the crime happensin darkness. My old camera needed white light to see or all you could see were shadows moving.

Locking gas caps which suck but karma is the best form of payback cause that's suck a cowardly thing to do Rudy doesn't seem like someone who screws over people so someone is a shithead to do that to someone who family donates thousands of dollars
Most dash cams don't record 24/7 and only a few could even detect anything was happening and turn on. A locking gas cap would be much more effective.

What a great idea for your roof, looks good. Whoever put the sugar in your tank has learned sugar doesn't ruin the engine plus a very good testament on the fuel filter. Great work on keeping positive!
It does ruin a engine once it contaminates the oil (getting past rings…) the last motor I done that had sugar it seized valves in the guides and rings sticking in ring lands

This happened to my father on a ‘58 Plymouth which he traded off for a ‘59. There was a labor dispute at the plant he worked at. Locking gas cap, first line of defense. Security cameras, security fence. Keep on posting👍
While growing up in the city you’re in now. It was the only place I’ve ever been that I made sure everything I had was locked up tight. The sugar was something that happened out there on a regular basis. Awesome content and way to use it in a positive manner. Good on ya and keep it coming!!

I've probably done 1/2 dozen or so vehicles that had sugar put in the tank. In every case, the filter caught the bulk of the undissolved sugar (the majority of the sugar doesn't dissolve in gasoline)

I had that happen to me about 20 years ago. Among performance problems, it also caused my float to stay open and nearly caused an engine fire on the side of the highway. Good to see you got it fixed!

I am more hoping that he bought it like that, and the problems only arose when the tank got sloshed around. I might be being naive, but I can't imagine anyone doing that to him.

Time for a locking gas cap. I haven't done that since the '70's. With the price of gas now, it might be a good idea anyway.
Most newer vehicles have screens in the fill neck to prevent fuel theft. I tried my best to get fuel out of my tank in my 2012 Odyssey,before trading it in.

You really need to get some cameras around your shop to keep all you vehicles safe. I am always blown away at the patients you and your family have in times of like these. I would be so upset and bent on revenge but you showed unbelievable self control and keep a great attitude.

Sugaring a car is an old school method for disabling a vehicle or, to simply “jack” with an adversary. That’s why I’ve kept locking gas caps on all my vehicles since they became available. Good job diagnosing and fixing the problem. 😊
Rudy, I've got the same truck but started out as a long bed. I've got a new fuel tank/ pump-sender you can have but I'm not sure it would fit short beds. I'm stoked to see the MJ again but not like this. That's a D move. Hope this doesn't hold you back.

Might want to flush oil too, just to eliminate any chance of contaminated oil damaging engine.

Good news is sugar is not ethanol/gas solvent so filters should stop it. The fuel pump will probably be damaged...

Man the World can be a bummer sometimes. Were you targeted, was it random? Not sure it matters. I think you're a good guy, I think I'm a good guy. My daughter, who is smarter than I, told me that everyone in this World has a different perspective. No matter how I see myself in someone's version of things out there I'm the bad guy. Terrible shame. Sorry it happened but glad you got it fixed. First thing I did when I picked up my '98 Sahara is put a lockable fuel filler cap on it to prevent any tampering. I'd recommend you do the same. Keep up the great work!!

I was wondering how the sugar interacts with the ethanol fuel we get a lot. If it would cause that when it dried down and then would cause it to get sucked into the filter. I often wonder if maybe it was a combination of the two. Glad you fixed the issue now in to the water pump! Thanks for the video!
Sugar will not dissolve in fuel. It will plug up the filters, and take a lot to clean it all out.

When I first saw that sludge I thought it was gypsum (from rockwall) and then to figure out it was sugar - some people out there would prefer to hurt those that work and succeed than put a smaller amount of effort into improving their own lives.
Hope you don't let this get to you Rudy - it's a small percentage of a small minority that would do something like this and they aren't worth your time and effort when you are capable of, and do, great things.
looks like a 2 lt pop was poured in gas tank! loaded with sugar, easy to pour, takes to long to pour granular sugar!

I would be checking all the other vehicles out there and see if they got sugar too. and a few hundred bucks on security cameras from harbor freight would catch who ever did this if they come back

On modern vehicles, the filter is built into the fuel pump.
