  • Some unanticipated uneven ground conditions at the cottage make mounting the FEL implement on the Kubota B2601 compact tractor just a little tougher than expected. I definitely should have known better. Lesson Learned. Come along and help me get this Loader on the tractor. Cheers!

    GP, thank you for the informative. Did you ever have the big pins fall out and leave your loader with one pin in. It happened to me. The holes where the handles go in are to big. My solution is to buy 1/2 x 1/4 x 3/8” collers and put them on the handles and tighten the set screws. Problem solved. I was very lucky that I didn’t damage my tractor as I saw the pin fall out and stopped. Happy tractoring, Wayne

    Just a suggestion, try covering the ball on the hydraulic hose with a rag and then gently tap the end of it with a hammer and it will release the pressure on those hoses so you won't have to take the fittings apart. I have done that for years and it works terrific. It does not damage the hydraulic fittings.

    Hey GP, On my LA402 hooked to my B7800, I discovered that I could push the connector on while orbiting the joystick and by doing so, the pressure in the hose can return to the tractor without having to do all the stuff you are doing loosening connectors and leaking fluid everywhere.

    Welcome to my world GP...The coolest thing about a challenge is figuring which unorthodox way is required to surmount it. Many of the larger and older tractors have none of the quick connect hydraulic lines nor do they have the 'drop down' loader props and are quite heavy by comparison. So a fellow has to really think outside the box with removal or re-installation. No matter what you do, you never have enough chain falls or beams on which to hang them.....LOL. Great video GP, filled with good tips and admissions of shortfalls too !! A lot of compact tractor owners will benefit from this video. Stellar production sir.

    What I have found to make things a little easier hooking and unhooking up my hydraulic lines is to not pull up all the way, this leaves room to work. That is so your loader arm isn't right in front of your hydraulic connection points. There should be enough slack in the lines to have the tractor almost a foot away. Makes for a lot more room to get into that tight spot. As far as the pressure build up I do the same as you. Level ground is also important. Not as much with the BX series but I'm sure with your B and larger tractors it is a must. great video! I'm still flail mower shopping!! :-)

    Wish I had watched this three days ago. Had taken off my grapple to use the bucket. Came back to the
    grapple and could not get the hoses to hook up. We had relieved the pressure on the tractor, but not the
    implement. Finally figured out the implement had pressure, relieved it and we were good to go. But you
    are exactly right about little things make it so much easier. Had similar experience hooking up the backhoe

    Excellent idea to show cleaning and lubing connection points. Most of us are just in too big of a hurry. That time taken cleaning and applying grease will alway make reinstalling go so much smoother. Cleaning and re-lubing top-link at least annually can make hooking up go easier and faster.
    It may be having the bucket on the loader frame rather than the grapple may aid in ease of reattachment. Better surface contact of the bucket.

    Great video. I have never taken the loader off the tractor and this has convinced me that I never will. It find with the bucket removed the overall size of the tractor is small enough. On another note, I moved my 3pt "C" tine cultivator yesterday, it has a couple of tab extensions on the center of the attachment, I have never given them much thought, when I lifted the implement up it bent the hell out of the check arms for the lower links. Fortunately those check arms are made of ductile steel and were easy enough to straighten out. I have since cut those tabs off the cultivator. The moral of the story is that the check arms on the inside of the lower links seem to get in the way compared to the older style check chains on the outside of the lower links and you need to pay attention to them.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good morning C and thanks for sharing that. I never gave those arms much attention but will now. I really like my front mount snowblower but the only challenge is that with the subframe design, I have to take the FEL off in order to use it. The subframe cannot remain on with the FEL arms. I think the newer style implements are much more friendly but this one means I have to remove it in the winter. Thanks again and enjoy the rest of the week. We are getting warmer weather and sunshine lately which is a good sign. Cheers!

    GP here is some tips that worked for me. Always place the loader on level ground when unhooking or hooking. Those little J hooks on the loader frame attached to the tractor that the loader arms slide into first (that always pop out if the tractor and bucket aren't straight in line with each other) if you grease those before you attach your bucket it seems to allow the loader arms to stay seated better when curling them back to line up the pin holes. Taking the time to make sure your tractor and bucket are in a straight line to each other makes things a lot easier when sliding in those pins. Lastly using the bucket curl function while working those pins is a big plus. Hope all is good.

      Morning Sunjay. You're welcome - I'm always learning. But important update on the hose connectors (that I got from one of my subscribers). When you want to connect or disconnect any hoses, shut the tractor off, then turn the key to the accessory position, then rotate your loader joystick and put it into float, a few times. If you have a 3rd function valve, then activate and click the up and down buttons on it a few times. This action releases the pressure in all the hoses. Then connect, or, disconnect the hoses. It has worked for me everytime. I have not needed to remove connectors ever since. Little tricks that come in handy. :)) Cheers!

    Glen - don't feel too bad. I've had a BX for 10 years and the only task I have huge problems with is attaching the FEL. I do have a suggestion to help though. Using a bench grinder, grind a 1/2 inch chamfer around the ends of the pins - it will help aligning the end holes on the FEL arms and can be slugged into place with a hammer. The chamfer is outside the loaded area of the pin so it does not affect the connection structurally.

    Good tips, Gord. On my li'l JD tractor, the pin is on the male ends of the hydraulic quick connects. This allows me to use a rubber mallet to release the pressure without risk of damaging them. However, your techique is probably the better approach. While I'm always careful to wrap a rag over the connector, my method comes with some risk that a high pressure stream of fluid could hit me in the eye. That would make it hard to watch your latest video. Cheers!

    In regard to your FEL, this year was a bit atypical in Ontario. We seem to have a 2-3 inch thick layer of ice everywhere. I use a large pry bar and a small trolley jack for alignment issues. Princess Auto frequently has 5 foot pry bars on sale, often a time saver. As far as the grease is concerned, perhaps you were thinking of molybdenum? It is often used in high pressure and low speed lubricants for pivot points in farm and construction equipment.

      Good day William. Great idea about the princess auto tools. I will keep an eye out as I could use a jack. Not sure of that component. I need to look at the label. Thanks for watching and good idea to keep the jack and bar handy if it ever happens again. Cheers!

    Great tips here GP. Sometimes a little common sense can go a long ways. I think the grease ingredient you were referring to is moly, aka ( Molybdenum )... Back in the day when I used a 3/4 ton pick-up with a 8' Minute Mount Fisher plow I ran into very similar problems with alignment when attaching. To often, 1 min. turned into 15 mins to get it mounted!

    Hey go I hav the same tractor as u and enjoy all yr videos ,a little story about mounting the frt end loader. My son bill,who actually gave me this 2600 for Father’s Day, likes to mow without the loader. So when he was done I said I would change back the next morn, so he went home and the following day I went to put loader back on and aft an hour of frustration left it till he came back. This was on a cement for so level was not the issue. When bill came Dan we both tried for another 45 mins to no avail. I said something has to b wrong it should not b this difficult,so he decided to call the dealer and hav them come by.(tractor only month old) so I put it back in barn and when closing door I noticed the tractor was lopsided so I told bill and took a pic so we could show dealer. It was sun so bill was calling mon morn. So I am sitting there and I thought of yr video where u say I check the air in the tires every day//////so I say to myself let me check just for the heck of it//we’ll low and behold there was 5 lbs in 1& 15 in another,so I fill all tires to spec tractor not lopsided drive to loader and bing bang bong I put it on in 2 mins lol. Send a pic to bill and say,”I hope u didn’t e mail the dealer yet,cause we would hav looked pretty stupid if he came over to fix our prob” lol so there u r I followed yr instructions and fixed a prob. Thought u would get a kick out of that story. Thanks bob McCarey.

    I have a suggestion I keep an extra set of quick couplers in the toolbox on my tractor that aren’t hooked to anything so you can use them which ever half you need to relieve the pressure without taking the lines apart . Then on my tractor it seems like the factory designs the loader and stand to work with the bucket I know it should not matter but mine goes on way better with the bucket than when I have my grapple or forks on the quick tach

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey good morning Dan. Thanks for the ideas. Sounds really practical. I agree with you - it works better with the bucket for sure. I should have left the bucket on when I took it off but I am usually able to use either so long as I am on flat ground. But definitely next season I will put the bucket back on, as you have suggested, to make sure I get the best chance to get it on easily. Thanks again - interesting idea about the couplers - practical and easy! Cheers and all the best!

    Very nice video. I really enjoy your videos. The Kubota LA434 manual on page 27 states “make sure that an approved bucket is attached before removing the loader”. I could not tell if you had the grapple or bucket on the tractor when you reattached the FEL I figure that is in the manual because a bucket is a more stable platform then a grapple. I know that since level ground at my place is at a premium it is always a struggle. Again great videos. My L3560 FEL pins came from the dealer with lots of grease. So that was a good reminder.

If not, and as over time the Sun will weaken and make brittle those plastic cover caps, a good suggestion might be to buy some Paint Pens of those same colors and paint a stripe on your hydro lines the color of the caps in case a cover cap breaks off one day.

    Gord I know this video is 2 years old but I have a question for you. A friend of mine has a L6060 actually he has 3. He got a new one this year and he is putting his old loader on the machine. Yesterday he tried for 2 hours and didn't manage to put it on. He sent me a picture, although he knows more than me, and I noticed the 2 rams/cylinders that raise and lower the loader are extended to the point where the pin that sits in the cradle and the hole where you install the pin to keep the loader on the tractor are almost horizontal instead of vertical. Can you collapse those rams with the hoses hooked up or is it only the weight of the loader in the air that will collapse the rams? I'm asking can the tractor suck the fluid from the rams or is it just the weight of the loader that lowers it when you push the down function? Thanks

    Thanks for the great video, Gordon. Always learn something from them. Thinking about getting a snow thrower for my machine. So now that you've been through it a few times, do you dread having to swap between spring and fall twice a year? Do the cylinders ever leak down while off the tractor and make it impossible to get the FEL back on?

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good morning Terry! Some great questions. I sometimes miss having my FEL but it is very seldom during the winter. The FEL has never leaked down - just my error leaving it on uneven ground that year. Having the front mount is, for me, worth it hands down. Long driveway and being able to blade and blow at the same time is pretty helpful - my back couldn't take looking backwards that much. If I had a garage, swapping the FEL and blower during the winter would be much easier. Good luck on your decision!

      @@GPOutdoors I think you've caused me to rethink my statement above. I removed the snow blower over the weekend and reinstalled the loader on my JD tractor and I noticed a few little wear spots on the loader mounting frame. There are definitely some flat spots developing from wear between the loader and the frame bosses where the two meet. So perhaps applying a bit of waterproof grease on those areas prior to attaching the loader would be prudent. ;-)

      I thought it was a little salty, too - for what it is. If one had access to a lathe it shouldn't be too hard an item to copy.
