I like the comment regarding "use what you have". This is a good example of that, and honestly those little backhoes 9/10 end up being a counterweight. Ive dug many a hole with a less than ideal front loader on a tractor.

I completely agree with you, not everyone has the money to buy tons of attachments and accessories for their tractor.. sometimes you just gotta use what you got.. and a good enough operator can get the job done no matter what.. even if it is a little harder on the machine in the end.. these things are built to work so I’m never worried lol
There’s just something satisfying about watching that bucket dig into that dirt. I think a piranha tooth bar would come in handy for that type of ground work. Great video, thanks!

Yep. I have one on mine and it is night and day compared to not having one. Cuts in very easy now.
I Agree 150% I put one on my new BX. A difference between a teaspoon and a shovel!
Great vid as I have to do something similar with my BX soon to get water away from my garage. I noticed that you get off the tractor a lot which makes what I say next a bit more difficult. In 1980 my Uncle was killed when his tractor flipped over on him because he had no ROPS and no seat belt so he was simply crushed and died right there by himself. I was so happy when the wife and I decided to buy my tractor but she sat me down at the table and begged me to promise her that I would always have my ROPS in place and also that even when I was just doing a simple job I would put on my seat belt. I have kept my promise since day one and at first it was difficult to remember but after awhile it has become second nature to put it on. I know you are more experienced than most but in 2019 stats showed around 130 people die each year from tractor rollovers and none of them thought it could happen to them including my Uncle. I def am aware and if working on a steep incline I gotta remember to use my seatbelt.. the rops alone can crush you when it’s up if your seatbelt isn’t on.. great reminder. I’m glad you kept your promise to your wife as it’s a great promise to keep.. like you said nobody ever expects something to happen and the more experience you have the more confident you can be.. @@BiffsEquipment That is so true as the tractor that killed my Uncle was a full size Farmall H and my Grandfather bought it brand new in the mid1950s I believe but other than Grandpa no one drove it more than my Uncle did and it belonged to him after my Grandfather passed away in 1977. He was hauling a trailer full of firewood close to dark and the drawbar caught on a stump he didn't see and it flipped over faster than he could get off those stupid seats they put on them. He was just short of 53 years old. I will check out part 2 of your ditch video soon. Thanks
I really appreciate your videos. I just bought my first sub compact tractor. A used bx25d. I love it. Has the front end loader, backhoe, and got a wood chipper attachment. After watching your videos I plan on buying a few more attachment. After watching some of your videos I'm realizing it's capable of doing so many more things than I expected which is great because it'll get me more jobs. I have a lawn care/landscaping business so the BX is a great addition and your videos are teaching me a lot. So I just wanted to thank you for taking time to make these videos. I plan on watching 2-3 a day too get through them all. Thank you!!!

Hey Ken, thanks for watching. Congrats on your break purchase! The 1025r is a beast of a machine.. your gonna be extremely happy with it.. there are things on the 1 series I like more than the bx such as the larger loft capacity and larger bucket but then there are things I like on the bx better as well so it’s all in what suits you (the operator better) my father has a 1023e and he loves it.. I plan on doing some comparisons when spring rolls around with the 1023e vs my bx2370 so stay tuned for that! I learned a lot from watching others as well so you can’t go wrong there. Hey Ben! Nice to meet you buddy. Sounds like your gonna have lots of fun playing and working with your new setup! I have always wanted a 4-1 bucket myself! Unfortunately the 4-1 bucket just hadn’t caught on yet here in the United States but slowly and surely more company’s are starting to make them for our small tractors. We can now get one from LandPride at our local Kubota dealer which they just started doing maybe a year or two ago. You’ll have to let me know how you like your 4-1 bucket as I hope to get one next summer! Stay safe buddy!

You did a nice job. Most people could not have done that good with a Backhoe. It is tough to keep things even like you did.
Thanks Roger! Yah it came out really nice, I find it works best when you can make yourself a template on the first hole or two that you dig and then mimic that template again and again until the trench is dug, def gives me the best results. Thanks for watching!

Nice! I like to use a bar or middle buster and just drive down the line breaking up the tight ground once or twice. Sometimes it helps the wear and tear and time using the bucket for that work.

Good job getting that dirt as far as you could. Would have dropped the front axle in to go further. To be honest I'd have skipped the pipe and just used the ditch. Some nice soil to build/fill the rest of the yard.
Get some weights brother. Makes a world of difference

Running a middle buster potato plow over the area several times will loosen up the dirt nicely, a piranha bar makes cleaning out the ditch a breeze.

you did as good a job as possible with what you had! Kudos! A piranha tooth bar would make this twice as easy. And the best idea? Buy a backhoe adapter, they are silly cheap. Share the cost with a family member, or your hunting club, use it to make drains mud puddles which prevent access to parts of your hunting lease.... or whatever
haha thanks Rich! I wanted to buy a backhoe but for the 6-8k it would cost to add the hoe and the sub frame I decided just to save my money and buy a mini excavator, hopefully in the coming year or so ill have one. Thanks for watching!

Like many here just bot a bx2380 for mowing and maintaining my acerage, your videos are great for learning, only watched a few but watching more. I noticed you left the mower on while digging in this one, is it best to remove when using FEL, or leave on? Or doesn’t matter? Wondering if it helps stability, adds weight for traction? Protects the under belly of the tractor or does it risk damaging the mower? I am a total newbie so sorry if it’s a dumb question.

Sometimes you gotta work with what you got, and people appreciate that because like me not everyone has the money to buy any kind of equipment they want and these videos show you how you can get it done with out all the fancy equipment. I also never understand why people watch and comment on videos they “don’t like” because to me that would just be a waste of time, I have no time to sit around and watch videos I’m not interested in and if I think the video is wack I’ll just click off. I don’t mind people asking me questions as many are first timers to my channel such as the guys asking about why my mower deck was on.. if they watched any of my other videos they’d see that I almost never have the mower deck on.. Nice vid. Any thoughts on getting a tooth-bar? At least the newer BXs have the bolt on cutting edge so you can reverse/replace it when needed. Nice vid.
Hey man! Yah iv had plans for the last 2 summers to get a tooth bar as I feel for jobs such as this it would have really made a HUGE difference specially digging into that hard rock but I just havnt pulled the trigger on one yet. And your right it’s nice that the LA340/344 loader allows you to buy a bolt on cutting edge, that’s def a nice feature kubota gave us!
How many takes did it take you to shoot that loader install LOL. That's a pretty cool system that Kubota has. The newest model put the loader joystick to the right of the operator in the console, seems like a more comfortable position to me than where yours is located. Going to be another year or 2 before I can get my BX, but definitely the tractor that I'm going with. I have a couple of irrigation ditches on my property that are a pain to clean out by hand, watching your video just gives me that much more of a need for a tractor and loader. 1 of the ditches I could easily dig out with a backhoe but the other one I can't get to as easily as there isn't enough room to straddle the ditch on about 3/4 of it so the loader would be a great asset in that case. I just don't have enough use for a backhoe so I wouldn't get one, but the loader is mostly what I'm after for sure.

You’ll be very happy when you finally get your BX.. yes the new bx23s, bx2380, and bx1880 all have the new loader joystick next to the seat right by the arm rest which is a fantastic upgrade from the older style loader valves like I have.
As for the loader I typically install it with just a single take.. I got quite good at installing it as iv had it on and off hundreds of times since Iv owned this tractor and after awhile you def get use to it. My driveway is actually on a slope too which makes it more difficult cuz it should always be installed and removed on perfectly level ground but like I said you get use to it after awhile and you’ll know what to do. I just found your Channel and Subscribed. I bought a Midsize New KUBOTA MX5400 this Summer for a Small 15 Acre Farm I bought. Please don't take this wrong, but I just love your Tractor. I wish I had one like it for work around the house and yard like this video. Mine is just Too ig for work like this. Maybe I can get one. You are really good at running it. Look forward to more of your videos. BTW: What's that attached to the back of the Tractor? And does it have a 3 PT. Hitch for small implements? Thanks.
Thanks man, these sub compact tractors are great because you can get a lot of work accomplished and can go work in very tight areas.. even wet areas where larger tractors would sink.. each tractor has its place and tho yours is too large for general yard work it makes a fantastic farm/industrial tractor.. mine is more for the weekend worrier or the small landscaper doing work on the side.. I Havnt found a job it couldn’t accomplish yet the only difference is it takes longer than a larger tractor. On the 3-point hitch that’s called a “quick hitch” you can buy one properly sized for any tractor.. it allows you to back right up to an implement and lift up on it and it locks it into place with out having to get off your machine and manually connect and adjust/Re-adjust the leavers .. it’s a total time saver!
I enjoy watching you work that machine. What rpm do you like to run for the FEL work? I set mine at 2500. I intend to play with the speeds to find a comfortable rpm .
2500rpm is a great starting point for most work, it allows the loader to be quick and fluent yet still maintaining lots of control for digging work such as this.. when grading I tend to have the rpm a bit higher like 26-2700 but it’s all on what your comfortable with.. I wouldn’t suggest going much under 2500 unless your just practicing. Thanks for watching I’m glad you enjoy seeing her get worked!

That’s awesome! I have debated for awhile just making my own tooth bar. Was gonna use a hardened piece of flat stock and cut the teeth with my plasma cutter then drill some holes and mount it up.. I still may do that. It’s always nice having a toothbar when you do a bunch of digging
I’ve got a piranha, worth the money. I’ve dug plenty of ditches and culverts using just a potato plow to rough out the ditch & the FEL to clean out the dirt. I’m in southern NC, we have a lot of shale rock & hard clay.

Whats that blade on the front end of the bucket? And do you have any ballast one yours? I have an L2501 and cant get it to dig in and scrape the ground for the life of me, the tractor either has no traction or the bucket cant dig into the compacted dirt. its super frustrating. and I am doing the same thing you are doing, putting enough presure down till the wheels lift then kind of bringing the bucket back up
Hmm that’s weird Cameron, the cutting edge on my bucket is actually the factory cutting edge.. but you aren’t the first person to think I have some special cutting edge on the front of my bucket lol. Sometimes when I dig straight down I also shake the loader a bit to help it sink in so maybe it’s my technique.. or maybe your ground is just a lot harder than mine is where you live.. on this day my ground was pretty hard tho. Your L series should have plenty of weight on the front to help force the bucket into the ground, have you tried a sharper angle on bucket? If mine done dig it sink in the first time I will then add more angle by curling down the bucket even more and go at it again.. and usually once I find that sweet spot it will dig right in. Try angling your bucket to a more extreme angle and see if that works.. once you’ve pierced the ground with the cutting edge then you can slowly start to curl the bucket back up as you push forward on the hydro pedal.. if your not getting any traction in the rear once your pushing forward then you will need more rear ballast. I have my rear tires filled along with 500-600lbs on my 3 point.. you having a larger tractor would want prolly close to 1,000lbs plus of total real ballast at the minimum. Hope this helps!
Tim from Canada .. do you the guy doing the work with the tractor? You should have spray-painted that spot where that metal pole gos so you can put it back there should have been an orange marker put around that spot for when you push back the steel stick
I would have but all the steel marker was there for was to signify there was a pipe there so it didn’t get hit when mowing and so soemone didn’t trip on the pipe when walking or running through the yard. It was only there for safety reasons and now that the pipe is underground the stake was no longer needed.

PVC is a much better alternative than the cheap pipe as for longevity..especially with the work involved. Either way though, great video and love watching the kubota do work
Thanks! The Corrugated pipe was something I already had laying around tho.. and since that’s what the pipe previously was using I felt using the same material to continue it on would be best. It’s been well over a year+ now and we havnt had a single issue, water still runs out and the ground has never sank in that area. Thanks for watching and for your suggestion!
Why the FEL and not the backhoe? Is it because it takes bigger bites and is somewhat easier to maintain the slope? I'm new to this so any advice is welcome.
Hey Kevlar, the only reason I didn’t use a backhoe here was cuz I don’t own a backhoe for my tractor.. if I had one I woulda deffinelty used it tho. Sometimes you gotta use what you’ve got and last summer the loader bucket was all I had for doing a job like this. Now I have a nice trenching bucket so next time I get a job like this I can dig the trench or ditch with the trenching bucket instead which will be much more effective at digging. A Backhoe is nice if you have another 10 grand to toss at it. Of course his model tractor DOES NOT SUPPORT A BACKHOE. USE what you have. There is always a shovel!

It was struggling to dig, this was mid summer when the ground here is super hard, not to mention there were a ton of rocks at the beggining of the ditch, once I made it to about the 1/4 or 1/2 way point tho it dug super easily. Thanks for watching
Get a Backhoe then! The attractor is a multi-purpose tool. A pickup truck strains pulling a trailer at max weight too!
If you give me the $8000 to buy it. I'll do it with a backhoe.if not I'll work with the machinery I got. Glad to know I can do it with just the front loader! My car stuggles going up a hill at speed. I think simi trucks do to. Maybe get a rock crawler?

Glad to hear Terry! And no absolutely not! The Piranha tooth bar is a fantastic tooth bar.. one of the best you can buy for the BX as far as I’m concerned. I have always wanted to buy one mainly for clearing land.. the one reason I never got around to it was because I found I didn’t really need it as I’m quite comfortable with the factory cutting edge as you see here but if I had one would I have used it? More than likely I woulda.. it can only help when digging specially in tough ground. The one thing I’m not a fan of with tool bars is it limits your back dragging capabilities because you do not have a nice flat edge anymore to pull material back, you have to use the back or bottom of the bucket instead which is the main reason I never added one since I do SO much back dragging with the types of jobs I do.. I just didn’t feel like having to take it on and off all the time even tho it’s quite easy to do I felt it would slow me down on jobs to have to swap it on or off so I just lived with out it. I do plan on eventually buying a second bucket for my tractor that’s brand new since my cutting edge is gone on my factory bucket.. I plan to put a tooth bar on that bucket and use the new one with the factory edge when back dragging but easily be able to swap to my old bucket which would have the tooth bar on it for heavy digging. Hope this helps’

They Tim, I actually own a 2013 Kubota BX2370 that I bought used with out a loader and then I added the bx80 series (LA344) loader myself after the fact. I know it often throws people for a loop when they see it haha. Thanks for watching!

Thanks buddy! Your right having lots of ballast makes these little tractors dig so much better. In this video I had 4x 42lb suitcase weights on the back and both rear tires filled.. I now run 8x 42lb weights and I now feel I have all the ballast I’ll ever need.. def makes a difference both in traction and in power when digging 👍🏻
Geez, amazing work with the bucket. It was almost like using a second pair of hands. I would probably not step on the deck while getting on the tractor though.

And yah I often use the deck as a step, they say you shouldn’t but in my opinion you aren’t gonna hurt anything, I think the only reason they say it’s “not a step” is because they don’t want someone to slip and have a lawsuit.. the deck and the hangers are more than capable of holding your weight, but it’s still always wise to go by the book that’s for sure: 👍🏻
I see you have a Kurtis cab for your BX, how do you like it? Do you feel as tho it’s in your way in the summer time?
@@BiffsEquipment I haven't used it much in the summer. Only late fall last year to help cut grass at my parents house. Certainly couldn't get under trees as well as I would have liked. However, that being said I just sold it a couple weeks ago. Now on the hunt for a different one, I'm always on the hunt to upgrade.
@@LawnGardenFun ah Yah Thats def one problem with the cabs is how tall they can be:. My plan was to buy “the original tractor cab” it’s a hard top soft cab, it’s only 1,000 shipped to your door for the bx it’s got a hard too and vinyl doors but the doors actually fully open and close, it’s also very easy to take on and off which is why I want it, cuz in the summer I don’t want it in my way, but in the winter I def want it to keep me warm.. for the money I feel it’s the best cab out there. Also you can get a glass window and windshield wiper option which is great for plowing and visibility, I highly suggest checking one out! If you get one before me def let me know how you like it 👍🏻

Thanks Terrell, sorry I’m just seeing your comment, I bought my tractor used for a smoking deal about 4 years ago, had about 300 hours when I bought it, I got it for only 3k and spent 3k on a brand new loader for it since it did not come with a loader it only came with the belly mower.. I have since worked the crap out of it and have almost 900 hours and she’s still going strong. Beer investment I ever made. I hope this helps! Yah like Don said they can be quite expensive new but worth it because of the warentee and dealer connections plus you know it was never abused.

Do you do most of your work in high or low gear range?
It all depends.. a job like this where I’m using a lot of force to beak through fresh ground I’ll always keep it in low gear as it can be hard on the trans to keep it in high and you may not have enough power to break through hard ground.. when I move loose dirt or light objects or even when grading I often keep it in high gear for the speed and fact of being more efficient. 👍🏻
The tractor has L M & H. Think of it as L= Loader, M=Mower and H= Highway.
@@bill5552 Actually the BX series only has Low and High range...the B-Series the next size up does have Low Medium and High range however.
High range doesn't have the Grunt! I seldom travel in high range! Slow and safe!

I did not have a boxblade at the time... Cant use something that I don't own.. Sometimes you have to make due with what you have.. This is what I had.. Obviously there is always gonna be a better tool for the job.. Heck if it was up to me I woulda used an excavator.
IF you ever have to dig a ditch by hand use a roto tiller like you use in a garden. The loose dirt saves your back and time.
Absolutely! Totrally agree that tilling it first makes a huge difference to help loosen up the hard ground before you dig it out.. I just don’t have a tiller right now unfortunately but plan to buy one soon, thanks for watching man!
A Plow hooked to the tractor will be much easier than a tiller! He said there were roots! Roots will destroy a small tiller!

Do you mean on the bucket itself? I have bucket hooks that a I welded to the top of my bucket, both there is one on both the left and right sides so I'm not sure if that's what your referring to.
Its a bucket pitch indicator.

From the drivers seat, left side panel (vertical) of the bucket, it looks like something attached at the middle pointing forward. I suppose it could just be a stick or root wedged in onto the bucket. Wish I could zoom in, its probably nothing otherwise I think you would know exactly what I saw! I'll watch it again and note the time when I can see it best.
Initially I was thinking it was a depth gauge for digging the trench. You can see it clearly at 16:59...
@@domenicmaiani3795 I just went to where you referred to, that’s the bucket level indicator, I bought it as an option for the LA340/344 loader. They unfortunately don’t offer one for the older Style 246 loaders. Which do you have?
@@BiffsEquipment I've ordered the 2021 B2601 with the LA435 FEL which is hopefully being delivered soon! The dealership is just waiting for a grapple and box blade to write up the loan agreement and deliver... I placed the order on June 1st , due to a (not so funny) comedy of errors and 2 sales men, it is getting close! In the Idaho panhandle, if you want a Kubota, you will buy it from the Adam's family, they have a monopoly here and no dealers in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, or Montana would even talk to me. I think that's kinda weird, most said that I need to contact my local dealer and a few actually said you need to call Adams.
I don't know if Kubota dealers around here are close knit or if Adam's is extremely territorial... I suspect the latter!
How many hp does this machine have
Hey Seth, it’s a 23hp machine with 17hp at the PTO which is actually quite good giving it’s size and max engine HP.. not a whole lot of power loss to the PTO like there is on the Deere 1 series
there's a better way to do this. if you google 'how to with a kubota' you'll find a guy that chains a piece of angle iron to the bucket and drags it straight back. peace friend.
What BX is this
I own a BX2370 but installed a bx80 series loader for it.. so thats prolly why your a bit confused. I also added a custom stack pipe also that I built myself just to see if it was possible. Thanks for watching!

Thanks buddy, this digging was very tough at first for the tractor and loader, I worked it pretty good but it was only so tough at the start because there was a lot of hard rock I was having to dig through along with lots of roots too.. once I got passed that stuff about 6’ down the trench the tractor dug it out with ease no issues what so ever. If I had a tooth bar on the front of the bucket when I did this Job it woulda been much easier on the tractor and loader as well 👍🏻
Leave it in the shed then! A tractor would not have a Loader if it would damage it! It is called a tractor!
I purchased a Piranha bar for my Kubota....teeth make the digging a bit easier

I plan on getting a cutting edge soon, I may end up building my own and doing a how-to video on it. I can assure you though my factory cutting edge is still in excellent shape though its missing the paint it still works perfect and is still sharp. I plan to install a cutting edge this spring sometime as it would really help me out for the type of work I do.
@@BiffsEquipment that’s not a cutting edge it comes with and sorry to say it’s not in good shape your bucket is rounding out which is gonna make putting a cutting edge on it my kioti 2610 brand new has holes in bucket for this edge to be put on they don’t come with so you have to dig in that pocket again but u do that how to I’ll be waiting to see how you put it on a rounded bucket!

@@devshewitt4809 apparently you think you can watch a video of my tractor and know the shape it’s in better than me (the guy who owns it) videos can be deceiving you can’t tell exactly to that detail and extent from a video that my cutting edge is “rounded out” my cutting edge is just fine and If you don’t believe me I’ll make a video on it just to prove it to you.. my tractor also has holes to add a secondary cutting edge.. this doesn’t mean that the factory cutting edge can’t be used.. the factory bucket comes with a cutting edge that’s made to be worked.. the holes they give you are there incase you want to save the factory cutting edge but it’s not needed.. it’s up to you as the owner to decide if spending $180 on a secondary bolt on cutting edge is worth it and to me it’s not.. I can buy a brand new bucket for around $200 so spending 3/4 of that money on a secondary bolt on cutting edge makes no sense to me.. if I wear out the factory one I’ll build my own or just buy a new bucket all together.. I plan on building my own tooth bar this year that bolts right to the edge of my existing cutting edge.. I want one that I can add and remove depending on the job. I can assure you that my edges are not rounded off. The cutting edge is flat, level, and still plenty sharp for its age. The paint is worn off the edge but that is it.. the factory welded on cutting edge is made of hardened steel and will last an extremely long time, but some choose to buy the secondary bolt on cutting edge from Kubota so that they can save their original welded on cutting edge as long as possible.. tho for the reasons I mentioned above I will not be buying one as its 3/4 the price of a new bucket (at least the last time I checked the price) thanks for your concerns tho

You need to add counter weight to the rear end then it will dig olot better
Thanks, I did have my rear tires filled in this video and also had four 40lb weights on my rear 3 point.. I have since then doubled the rear ballast tho and now have eight 40lb weights in the back so now I have plenty of ballast. I totally agree.. Been meaning to buy one for some time now just havnt gotten around to it yet.. I thought about just building my own toothbar and still might which is another reason I havnt gotten the BXpanded toothbar yet.
Your grill looks like it’s coming lose
Thanks yah this video is quite old but at the time it was loose as the mounts for the grill/bonnet were cracked.. these days I have no mounts left .. it basically just rests there with a single fender washer to some what hold it in place on the wing nut lol. I have to buy a new hood bonnet it’s been on my list for a few years now
@@BiffsEquipment same with mine the mounts broke and mine is a 2006 model so I can see they haven’t fixed that but that’s why I noticed it cause I was looking for it

I think the video would be a lot better without the music
Sometimes I add it sometimes I dont.. All depends on the video. Sometimes videos can get quite boring with out any music and if the video is sped up then you almost need to cut the engine sound completely and add music as the sound of the engine will sound high pitched and terrible. I have other videos where I don't add any music so you may like those better.
Get a proper spade and pick would make digging by hand easier.

Sometimes youv gotta use what you’ve got, I couldn’t afford to rent or buy a backhoe/excavator for this one Job, tho now that I have a trenching bucket fir my bx it woulda done this job much easier last summer. Thanks for watching

I just cant bare to watch, get a pirahna tooth bar at a minimum. you need a football field on at least one side if this ditch to dig in this fashion, which 99% of the time is not available to back up and reposition yourself. My advice? Buy a backhoe, they are silly cheap. Share it with someone, like your hunting lease to make drains for mud puddles or whatever......
Id much rather use that money to buy a used mini ex. And yes a toothbar would make life easier but when you don't have the money you use what youv got and that's what my channel is all about. Either way I always manage to get the job done. Certainly there is always better tools for the job or better ways to accomplish the same thing but as I said I use what i got. Thanks for watching.
