  • Is this motorcycle for you?
    I am 1.70 and weigh 70 kg, would you recommend this Tenere to me? Is it good for traveling with passenger? Can I keep a cruising speed of 150km/h? I plan to ride it mostly off-road, what do you think? What are the necessary modifications of this model? In this video, I will answer all of these questions.
    Questions like these receive almost every single day. Even though I already made a number of videos about the model, it looks like they were not enough and people keep asking and asking...
    I remember one of my teachers, use to say that if people cannot understand what you are talking about you probably need to work on the way you explain things. That's why I decided to make this video that will combine the most popular questions and provide easy-to-understand answers.

    Exactly. My husband is 1,76 m tall. He rides his standard Ténéré no problem. But: he has been riding two wheeled, motorized vehicles from age 15 on, so he has tons of feeling and experience for it and has the technique down. He much prefers this type of motorcycle to anything else. He rides my Tracer and recently our daughter's 125cc MT from time to time (he checks them every spring before riding season begins, and this is part of the routine). You really have to be into this type of top-heavy, tall bike. Absolutely test-ride it before buying it.

    @MrZokzo ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Everybody is talking about shorter riders and how the motorcycles fit them or not, and almost all motorcycles are designed exactly for small riders!
    Nobody talks about tall riders. And I mean TALL, not normal (up to 190cm). For example, I'm 203cm and 105kg, what choice do I have? I sat on so many motorcycles and I always feel like a giraffe on the bicycle. Only T7 and AT are somewhere near being the acceptable size.. and I'm not talking size of the fairings but the leg room.

    • @chrisjohns9631
      @chrisjohns9631 ปีที่แล้ว

      At 5'5 with short legs I beg to differ! It seems like 5'9-6'0 is the target range for most bikes. There are many more off road/dual sport bikes with seat heights north of 900mm than there are with seats lower than 800mm.

    • @MrZokzo
      @MrZokzo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisjohns9631 you're right, in off road/duall sport big bore category that might be true. Although there are lots of smaller ADVs out there. But I meant in general. Generally, motorcycles are much more suitable for smaller riders, that's the fact.

    Rider height
    As important as seat height is also seat width between riders legs.
    Having some of seat removed can greatly help.
    Also I think riders should get comfortable with having 1 solid foot on ground rather than thinking you need to have both solidly planted.
    In my opinion anyone who wants to ride a ADV (ie high mass, high center of mass) on anything other than gravel roads, should do significant training on a dirt bike (half the wt of ADV) in various conditions (dirt, gravel, rock, mud)

    as usual, very good advice , thank you Pavel sharing your experience. on my side I experienced the same, from AfricaTwin 10%dirt road, to Husky 701 E 60% real off-road, to KTM500EXCF for 80% off-road. I'm 1,78m tall at 80kg. I lowered the 701 from 92cm to 88cm seat height after 1year and 3drops on eneven ground with 1 injury, while the 94cm of my 500 is not an issue as it is so light. I sold my 701 to buy a KTM890R for more asphalt and dirt trip but no real offroad, and I lowered that 890 from 88 down to 85 from day 1. I tested the T7 slightly too high at 86cm with heavy top, the Tuareg660 just right at 85 with lower center of gravity, the DesertX fantastic offroad but too high and expensive. The AfricaTwin is a great travelling machine even on dirt but too heavy for offroad.

    Pavlin, I do appreciate you compiling this video but I am amazed you keep getting the same questions. It is NOT your delivery of past content that keeps people asking. It is that more and more people want an immediate response without researching (past content by you or others), especially the subjective questions (can it carry a passenger or go on dirt ..sure, maybe - how is your experience and comfort level..). This new platform has been on the market for a while and you have done a great job over time taking us through your journeys and pointing out pros and cons honestly and without BS. • @whitedrguy6503
    @whitedrguy6503 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    All very good, honest points Pavlin, the T7 and most , so called adventure bikes are not for everyone, they are all tall heavy bikes.
    In my opinion there is a big difference between off road and dirt roads, in Australia anyway, a dirt road is still a road, off road is normally called a track, track normally means 4WD only, so dirt roads are perfectly fine for the T7, tracks are sometimes doable but caution is advised.
    Where it gets interesting with tall heavy adventure bike is when it gets wet and the dirt turns to mud, then a dirt road can be a nightmare.

We rode to Banja Luka in Bosnia and back through Slovenia and had a lovely trip. He was worried that I would never keep up on my 390 KTM but at the end of the trip admitted that it never was an issue anywhere on the trip, either through the Slovenian Alps or overtaking other vehicles along the way. I read negative comments about the 390, however as far as I am concerned, it totally filled the bill for me. I still appreciate it's lower weight and easy managability!

    This is my first bike, I had never ridden a motorcycle before. I am 42 years old, 1.74 at about 65 kgs but fairly athletic. At the beginning I did struggle a little bit, being a noob rider and all but this bike is just amazing and exactly what I was looking for. I did slightly soften the rear suspension to lower the bike at the beginning (there is a knob at the back which you can easily adjust) but apart from that no other modifications were necessary (now that I am experienced and confident I reset it to default). Riding with an experienced passenger is no trouble but I try to avoid inexperienced passengers as much as I can. I heard from many people (including the municipal police) that the passenger seat is not comfortable at all even with the comfort seat option, so if you are planning to have a passenger regularly I would avoid this bike. As for cruising speed, I mean I wouldn't call 150 km/h cruising speed, that is more like hauling ass :)) but it can easily do that if you want it to and you will have no trouble overtaking vehicles on the highway when needed.

  • @tuggsli
    @tuggsli ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Pavlin
    Spot on as usual, but I think you forgot an important aspect: technical simplicity.
    The T7 seems to have just the legally required minimum of high-tech, which is fuel injection for emission control and ABS breaking. Besides that, everything is pretty basic. This may sound negative - until you have to fix a broken part somewhere deep in the nowhere during a real adventure journey.
    So the T7 has, in my eyes, quite some potential as round-the-world bike. Unless weight is more important, then one will end up pretty soon at the Honda CRF 300 Rally. And this is an important criteria for the travellers on the rough side.
    And, being the nitpicker I am, I'd mention tyres too. Any "adventure" bike with street tyres may just make it on a gravel road, but not more. But, and this is a thing a lot of people do not apply, by putting some real offroad tyres on, the bike has a ways bigger potential offroad, but sucks a bit on the street. It simply will offer less adhesion on tarmac. So it is a good idea to have the right tyres for the right surface. Or even a second set of wheels (my solution). If I want to do TET trails, on go the knobbies. But anything besides TET, I have not 50:50 but 100% street tyres on the rims. In my case Conti Trailattack 3 for the summer and actually Pirelly Scorpion AT90 for the winter. Next winter tyre I'll try will be the Heidenau Scout.
    So the right tyres for the purpose are, independent of the bike brand and model, THE very big game changer. And this deserves to be mentioned.
    Some minor weight/height aspects:
    In my personal case, I tried the T7 and found it great, but simply too heavy. Coming from a KTM 790 Adventure, the difference in weight is maybe 10kgs. No reason to switch. And I ended up with a Husky 701. Because, and this is the other aspect of weight, I will drop the bike offroad maybe 5 times on a bad day. I can lift the 160kg of the Husky 701 maybe 8-10 times a day without getting hurt - but with the 210kg T7 and the KTM it's 3-4 times I can lift her, on a good day and flat ground...
    And yes, I am aware that the 701 is NOT a RTW-bike, simply too much electronics.
    Now height:
    Being 75kgs and 183cm with a 83cm inseam, my foot position on the T7 is practically identical to the 701 Enduro. But the Husky has officially 30mm more seat height than the T7. The reason behind is seat width. The wider (and more comfortable) the seat, the more the legs are bent outside. Which, naturally, reduces the effective distance ones feet can reach downwards. My girlfriend has a 701 Enduro lowered by 50mm, and she is 170cm. Until now, she managed to ride anything even better than me. The 14 additional years of riding experience she has over me count too, it seems.
    To cut a long story short: you will probably give a short answer and say "yes, just sit on the bike and tilt it to feel if it fits and then make a solid test ride, especially off-road. And yes, try to lift the bike!" End of Pavlin's quote 😃
    And a last remark, more to myself: the AJP PR7 would have been perfect! I discovered the bike AFTER having bought a brand-new 701, and now I add real money to get the Husky to the same equipment level as AJP has from scratch. Still scratching my head about that one!

    Hi Pavlin! I know it's not comparable, but on my driving license course, I spent 15 hours on Yamaha MT-07. That bike was for me super easy to handle regardless of the fact that I didn't have much experience. Once I let go clutch too early while doing a 8-figure, steering full locked right, and I barely kept it from falling on asphalt. It's at least 20 kilos lighter than the T7, and significantly lower. Did you maybe ride one? After about a year of watching videos about ADV bikes, the T7 is still somewhat of a perfect motorcycle for me so I would really like to know your opinion. :) Greetings from Croatia, cheers! :)

    I’ll just say every ownership is different, saying that, it also depends on the usage, rider experience and expectations you have.
    Paul Tarres is “fake advertising” and don’t get me wrong the guy is a Pro, a Superman. He make things look so easy. For non experienced riders this bike is not capable of riding on walls, jumping houses or riding on the top of a mountain 😂 just be aware of that.
    I have 1 year ownership, I’m 1.70m & 77kg. and I’m more than happy with this bike, and you’ll be happy too if you like reliable bikes.
    Things you need to consider before buying this bike if you’re 1.70m:
    Weight of the bike: Yes, it’s a heavy bike, not easy to lift it up by yourself, but with the proper technique it’s possible at least 1 time. 😂.
    Tall bike: of course, however, you don’t need to flat foot if you have the proper one foot technique. If you’re my height and you plan to do hard trails, you might need to have pro skills to handle the bike.
    Things I have modified considering my height: just the low seat
    Upgrades: front springs, skid plate, Barkbusters & brake pads.
    On-road experience: you’ll be very surprised of how well this bike behaves on twisty roads, even with a 21” front wheel, you can overtake cars on the freeway easy, just don’t expect a super bike engine power and this bike is a wheelie monster.
    Off-road: as a beginner rider riding on easy dirt roads, I can say this bike make it easy, that might be a con because your confidence will be compromised if you fall, but with zero experience I have had a great time on this bike considering my height and experience.
    Just one big disclaimer: if you expect a bike with top technology, this bike is not for you 😂.
    And if you have Pavlin’s riding skills you might be a little bit unhappy, my riding skills are far below, but as a rider with low dirt riding skills the bike has been great, so far.
    Thanks for the video Pavlin

    Love the way you have explained this Bike. Personally I’m more of a road person but a bike like this makes sense as a all rounder.😮 it’s always best to check your application as you mention with bikes. If you trying to commute everyday maybe the bike can do it but tip toeing isn’t the best option all time if your shorter😮‍💨

    Well put! The mighty T7 does everything good! Travel, gravel roads, light trails, twisty roads, and the occasional hillclimb event...! I commute daily on mine for a year, its an exceptional commuter bike . Although Im 6'2" so it fits me great.

    Very good points Pavlin, and not just hype and marketing, I completely agree.
    The topic of seat height I think is very individual. I'm similar height as you and have no problems. But some smaller riders can handle the tall bikes good as well. I think it depends a lot on the person.

People are very delusional with their expectations on Adventure and Dual Sport bikes.

    This video was very informative for me. Ive been debating trading in my 2020 Yamaha tracer 900GT in for a tenere 700 because when travelling i find myself in situations not suited for a street only motorcycle and I would like to have something capable of also doing light offroad. But the main reason I cant decide is that 80/90% of the time I would still ride on the road, listening to this video it seems like that is the purpose of this motorcycle and that its still very capable on the road. So perhaps the tenere 700 is actually good in my situation? Im 180cm, ride alone (65kg), never above 120km/h.

      i traded my Tracer 9GT after 9000 miles touring for the same reason. I wanted to ride unpaved, nothing too crazy or technical and the Tenere was the best decision i have made. dont get me wrong, the Tracer 9 GT is an absolute gem, the CP3 is brilliant and if i was gonna stick to the black stuff, i would have kept it. I know the CP2 is a brilliant engine too because my wife has a tracer 7GT and can easily keep up touring with my 9. Ended up getting the Tenere World raid. i cant fully flat foot it, but managing absolutely fine.

    I'm just 173cm tall and is 90kg, so basically I'm too short and too heavy for this bike. I bought the bike and yes, like Pavlin said, I have to use the 1 foot technique all the time, plus on uneven surface it is extremely difficult to even get the kick stand out, I will have to make modifications in the future ti make it fit me. But yes, like Pavlin said, this bike isn't for everyone. Don't let it stop you though, feel free to get it, but, it is NOT a beginner/short rider friendly bike. However, if you're looking for a 80/20 dual sport adventure bike with a mildder budget, there really isn't many other choice aside from the new KLR650. You will have to decide for yourself what do you want. Of course, you can ride this bike if you're a shorter heavier person. But you will need to up your skill to do it
