I am so happy to see the MR-S getting the love I always thought it deserved. I’ve had mine for about 10 years now but being in college and broke years ago means I haven’t done anything to it. Now that’s all changed, got my career job in full swing, can actually afford to dump money into the car I got at the beginning of college, and excited to start my own channel with a full restoration of the car for some fun drifting in it. Can’t believe what you were able to do with an open diff. You held the angles so smoothly. That really is a testament to your skill. Totally subbed and ready to see all you do with the MR-S.
i think it means the car has good balance in the back with whatever suspension thats on there and also the tires were crappy, but my friene who used to drift these heavily told me all 4 crappy tires is the way to go on this car, its gonna b interesting but definately a fun car to drive, im super excited👍👍👍
I raced mr2 spyder for 5 years. Undefeated. I smoked 911s. They never had a chance. This car is very light so it's fast with minimal modifications. Tons of fun.

I just came over from your FDJ live stream. I’m glad I subbed!! I had a 2001 celica when I was in college and all I could think of was how I wanted the MR-S as an upgrade. Hopefully someday I’ll be able to grab one.
Toyota made a huge mistake not giving the MR2 the 2ZZ and only gave it to the Celica. My theory is that they didn't want to compete with the Lotus Elise/Exige. Still the MR2 is an awesome car and lots of fun even when not drifting.
@@Zeriel00 I completely agree. Even though it’s peaking at around 300hp for anything that won’t explode, the 2ZZ is still SO light and only ads like 15-20lbs. The 1ZZ is kinda a crappy engine. I had the Celica GT which was the lower trim with the 1ZZ. It was unfortunately a very unreliable engine; and mine like many others suffered from a worn piston pin.
@@justaformer11b95 Oh thats weird, from what Ive seen and heard the 1zz-fe is one of the most reliable engines. Its used by the Corolla and I have one with close to 300k miles and minimal maintenance (was owned by my sis). The early MR2s had an issue with the pre-cat getting into the conbustion chamber and burning oil but that was fixed with the 2003 and later models. The 1ZZ is weak but it has some advantages. It can be boosted easily without needing forged internals and Ive seen them go past 300HPs. You can also build them to go much higher unlike the 2ZZ that is capped at around 300. It also has a much more usable power band with low end torque unlike the 2zz that you have to rev as much as possible, its also extremely reliable and super economical. Maybe it was really slow with the Celica but with the MR2 is not terrible because it only weights 2,200lbs. I guess it wouldve been great for the car to be more powerful out of the gate but I cant really hate the 1zz since I have 2 lol. I guess we got to count our blessings lol. Did you get an MR2?

My celica was an 01’ and because of the oil burning problem and the spirited driving like many celica owners, by the time it was about ten years old, it was in bad shape. Admittedly I was naive and ignorant, as a young driver, thinking that a Toyota wouldn’t burn oil like it did. Which it didn’t do until it’s last days. Had I really appreciated what I had, I would have not sold it and would have put it in the barn. But I sold it to get a 4x4 which was a requirement for me at the time. Unfortunately, I never have gotten another sports car since. I live where trucks are a necessity and probably won’t have another sports car for years to come. You’ve definitely warmed me up to the idea of looking again. 🍻 Edit: my Celica was an awesome car. It certainly didn’t feel slow. Lol. It was faster around autocross than my brother’s 350z, but that could have just been the drivers. 😅

They are fun little cars! Just too small for big gaijin like me. ;). Is it a little harder to get sideways since it's mid engine, but easier to hold? Or just more difficult

I did control arms coilovers and some axles rated for more horsepower for reliability but I just haven't had a chance to actually try and slide it cuz we don't have a lot of events in my area. Much like Kenny, you are in need of a doctor. You appear to have contracted MRSA, otherwise known as MR-S Addiction. It’s can be a serious and expensive condition if you aren’t careful.
This is a great car, light weight, mid engine, rear wheel drive, reliable Toyota engine, its a monster in the togue but drifting is not his strong suit because it will spin out so easily :(
For road racing / trackdays / Time attack , it's an amazing plateform and it's easy to swap a 2zz in it. Now there is even some kit for K swap. For some reasons the EUDM MR2 come with a LSD from factory but JDM (who don't come with LSD) have shorter gear ratio.
@@heymanrobbie I think you're right. The speed limit on the highways is 130 km/h in a lot of country in Europe. I fully agree. This car is a lot of fun for cheap.
UK kit for VW 20v engine it fits in the bays real well you can remove inlet manifold in place. Or kit from the us for the 2ar Fe Toyota engine with new camshafts to take it away from the Atkinson engine back to Otto cycle.
