Matt was and is a true maverick. He was never allowed to be the greatest England player as he didn't fit the mould. Just take a look at his greatest goals compilation. He never followed the money and kept his integrity before and after football. What a legend.
I never took that as an answer tbh. Matt could play anywhere in midfield or striker positions, anywhere at all, from centre of the park to the wings, he lost pace after 25 or so but he could do a job anywhere. It was all backstage politics probably

Truth is, unless you support the few, the odds of winning trophies and the Premier League are very unlikely and limited. Just love your team and let fate take care of the rest. A friend of mine is from Plymouth and a Plymouth Argyle fan here in Scotland. I used to follow football but gave up in international after France 98(which i won all inclusive trip to watch Brazil v Chili) when I thought it was corrupt when Brazil never won, I gave up on following Hibs after their game against Rangers when Hibs needed a draw to get to the Europa cup and Rangers a draw to win the title (9 in a row) and 1-1 half time and in the 2nd half it was like a training exercise without either trying to score. I now see it as an expensive hypnotic game watching a ball and in the minds of some like Rangers V Celtic I see sectarian contorted faces, which I had in my youth.
