Maria Chiara dimostra oltre che bel timbro anche una sicurezza tecnica che oggi é fantascienza! La bellezza della donna completa il bellissimo quadro....
magnifica, vocalizza meglio di tantissimi soprani di coloratura passati e presenti.... per non parlare del fraseggio; e nello stesso concerto cantava verdi e Puccini!!!
Grande cantante, Il re acuto finale è sicurissimo. Molto più brava di tante altre che hanno sfruttato la TV e mariti televisivi. In più è anche una bella donna e non si dà arie. Da ricordare x sempreverdi
Maria Chiara canta Bellini con una suppless e morbidezza incredibile. Bravissima considerando anche il repertorio che prevalentemente era orientato su Aida, Forza, Attila...Merita molto più considerazione. Una grande tra le grandi

A few "experts" denigrate this immortal diva's voice, all the while the songbirds in the trees give pause as she overshadows their rhapsodic, golden-throated calls!
Yes another superb rich toned soprano.....full of vocal character...rather neglected by the mainstream business recording labels of her time....she would have so many better options today to make and especially to leave a larger legacy of audio visual material to be enjoyed for all time

She reminds me so much of Callas in her top. Watch her Pace Pace video from later in her life and you would swear the climax is callas. I love both Marias!
As i have said somewhere else i have this Maria on a disc singing.... Mi chiamano Mimi it is easily the best version i have heard any soprano sing........no one comes close to it. and ive listened to them all.
She sang a magnificent "Senza mamma" in this very concert, a piece that fits her voice perfectly. As to this particular piece of music, she is far less convincing. The voice is beautiful, but she is rather tentative on the scales, and the E-flat is squeezed.
Why are we mentioning Callas here?! Poor Chiara: she was endowed with a splendid lyric voice, suitable for lyrical roles, but she sang the wrong repertoire and ended up in a mess. Too bad, because her voice was splendid but you can already hear the very limits of her gorgeous instrument. Check out the Andrea Chénier duet w/Domingo (1970). She had a Freni type of vocality: but Freni was far more discerning and shrewd in her choices. Che spreco, e che peccato.
+operabilia I cannot find evidence that Chiara's voice ended up in a mess. Her Aida from La Scala was better than probably any of the current sopranos who perform today and she certainly could outsing Ricciarelli at any stage. I dont think this is her repertory, but at a concert singers often try arias out.
Sorry but can't agree at all. She was a pure lyric and tackled heavy dramatic roles (Odabella!!!) and destroyed her voice. Like Katia did actually. She developed a terrible woble and that had been sadly noticeable.That is reality. But I agree with you that she might sound better than many singers nowadays. Best.
Chiara at her worst was always better than Ricciarelli at her best. Katja had developed a wobble already (!) by 1980 - the rest was a case of 'Emperor's new Clothes' with her - she somehow managed to con the world and the recording companies (and Karajan) that she was way way better than she really was. One could say the opposite was the case with Chiara- she was actually much better than her "B -Class" status. Katja was royal blood, she let everyone know that - Chiara was a simple person that didnt understand what it took to become royal. The late seventies and 80's was a strange period in the opera business, recordings that have subsequently disappeared into oblivion were being poured out with huge names singing roles on record that they wouldn't even dare to attempt in the theater - it is all rather interesting observing what happened in retrospect. Somehow there is a sense of truth here on YT as so may live performances are available (with singers of yesterday and current times) - I am very grateful to have experienced this new era of the opera internet age :))
Well on that count, I agree with you. The voice of Ricciarelli was totally destroyed. Chiara's has been tarnished and has aged (especially in the middle register and the top notes ...) over time. The beauty of the latter's voice was ideally better suited for lyric roles and really not for dramatic. The strain became obvious quite quickly I am afraid. And I am not the only one regretting the fabulous talent she once had! Best regards.
@@operabilia ....she was probably a dramatic coloratura like Callas. Since they have more sound and a slight heroic ping, they are placed in heavier repertoire than is best for their voices. Sustaining long loud high notes is a huge strain on any non truly dramatic voice. Running scales wide range and changing dynamics are perfect for Chiara's type of voice.
