    Jersey City is the same way... Lots of corner grocery stores with insane prices for almost everything. Nearest supermarket is a mile away, with the walk to the nearest bus stop or the light rail being far enough that using those options isn't worth the cost compared to just walking. Being lazy I tend to do all my grocery shopping on amazon fresh... I might not catch sales, but it's still cheaper than the local grocery stores.. As far as hispanic food goes, the sandwiches might be tasty but they're too expensive, the meals might be tasty, but you're getting a huge tray of rice with a tiny amount of meat or vegetables, and also too expensive. You can live on rice but it's basically a filler, not a lot of nutrition there.

      No one is talking about Jersey and it’s not the same so get that out of your delusional mind.

    I like how the professor is trying to beat around the bush and say that calling it a food desert is racist and to use food apartheid instead, as if the grocery stores are not being robbed blind by their neighbors

      Spoken like someone who obviously never been in a supermarket in these neighborhoods. They usually don’t allow you to walk around with outside bags and are very attentive to everyone coming in and out. The criminals go to more affluent neighborhoods with less security to steal. But of course you’re going to believe you’re biased talking points that aren’t first hand experiences

      @@remynyc149 What??! Outside bags or not, there is only one, only one reason for food deserts- theft….without and guess what else…within. Blk employees regularly steal stuff. This is not a secret. The same things happen in sneaker stores. Law abiding blks can only blame their own people.

      Grocery stores are not being robbed blind, stop making things up. The problem is not enough people shop there, not enough money, and easier to eat horrible fast food.

    All the stores that moved into low income neighborhoods closed down because of theft then people cry about food deserts. Change the culture

    Or delivery. Delivery costs more than the subway but less than rideshare. Or does it in New York City? It does where I live.

    What the F is she talking about?? There are many, many supermarkets around “her block” in BedStuy.

    Maggie Cole may be considering a specific type of organic supermarket that is also overpriced, but that one she’s referring to is not easily accessible by train to BedStuy. However, BedStuy has so many supermarkets and Brooklyn is one of the best boroughs for quality and lower-cost produce. There are other districts aside from Bed Stuy, Ms. Cole may have researched that have less options but this city fares pretty well.

    This video forgot to include bodega etiquette. I.e., don't bother the counter clerk while he is on the phone

  • @joeschmo622
    @joeschmo622 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Funny how wholesale theft is never accounted for. At least in a neighborhood store, it's cramped quarters, the owner/clerk is right there, there are likely plenty of regulars around, so it's harder to stuff 30lbs of stuff down your pants, vs what happens in a typical supermarket. But another problem is that people don't take the time to check out sales or even look through a flyer or online. I see a good sale on nonperishables, and I stock up to last me through The Zombie Apocalypse. Perishables, if on sale I'll get more than usual or just get some at all vs skipping. People need home-ec classes in school again.
    Bodega food is hella good, though, albeit pricey. Just the mention of a cuban samwich got me drooling here, but I'll settle for a chopped-cheese.

    3.9 miles from bed stuy to a grocery store?!?! This is nonsense to push a narrative. There's a super Foodtown right in restoration plaza. There's Lincoln market, food Bazaar, etc. If she's going on the definition of 40k square feet, fine, but acting like your only option is a bodega or an hour train ride is just a lie
