I admit I'm a giant snob when it comes to people covering David Bowie tunes, especially this one. But this performance was so excellent-- a true reinterpretation while still being so, so respectful of the original. She FELT this song. This was absolutely excellent... I could hardly breathe when she sang it. What a voice. What presence. Just wonderful.
@@Johnnywhamo thanks guys, glad I’m not the only one! I remember liking it on Stern but I’m sitting here with tears dripping down my cheeks. I used to think of myself as a strong, mans man up until about 6 minutes ago.
This was a powerfully simple cover that completely captures the essence of the original yet making it something so special. That was a hauntingly beautiful performance.
this is the best way to describe the difference between the two. I was really feeling them both, but I couldn't put my finger on what exactly. well done
You are not from a whole different world if you appear on the Howard Stern Show, that's for sure. She's just weird, that's the Björk-Effect, people automatically think it's super artistic.

As amazing as this song and cover is, didn’t Bowie just pick random words from a newsletter when writing this song? I don’t really thing there is that much of a meaning in the original I think she definitely found a meaning in it just not the one intended because there kind of wasn’t one
@@zewaisnel6130 I do not think Bowie would write a song without any kind of meaning. It was not Bowie form to write meaningless songs, as far as I've looked into all the magic stuff related to Bowie's past.
@@FernandoPaladini true, I agree but the meaning might be based on feel rather than the words. @@Vera-xu3xw Your point? She completely reinterpreted the song but still had great respect for the original. Not easy to do. Plus she has about 4 original albums, all unique and amazing. Keep quiet unless you've something useful to say
Heard this live on Howard originally and fell through the looking glass into Aurora’s world and have been hooked ever since. So glad they finally out this on TH-cam, this is the best version of this song from her.
I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve enjoyed a Bowie cover and this is one of them. Such a dreamy surreal take not just a one for one remake. Gorgeous.
@@broluxgigantos89 you sure did lol he loved Seu Jorge's covers and liked Philip glass heroes, as well as many others...he just didnt liked people that didn't put their own identity on the covers and ended up imitating him
Finding Aurora is absolutely the best thing TikTok has done for me. She is a magical creature we must protect at all costs.... I love this and that it's from 2016.
She is... So amazingly talented. There is such a depth of understanding of music in her performances, along with a very visceral connection to the songs. You often get one or the other, not both. She's got SO MUCH vocal control, too.
Aurora is an angel whose songs take over her soul when she performs. Been a longtime fan. She is ethereal. I found her angelic voice at the end of a Girls' episode. She sang this very song. Like a siren, she drew me in.
The way to express herself is genuinely because she feels the music and its meaning of this deep song... That was flawless! There is nothing that can be improved! This is absolute perfection.
Like many out there I think I embody Bowie from being a low teen captivated by his first five or so albums. Wore those damn things out knowing every word. That being said Aurora nailed it. For being young coming in later she was able to hit the tone so many others miss, and yet made it her own. Fantastic job.
Remarkable. A beautifully haunting voice which astoundingly, almost makes the song her own. She achieved the same feat of vocal brilliance when she covered the Chas & Dave 1979 classic, 'Gertcha'.
To his credit Stern has pulled some absolutely awesome performances out of guests and this is certainly one of them. An incredibly beautiful rendering.
It was with this song that I've discovered Aurora and I couldn't help becoming a fan, it was made with a guitar the one I first saw. Thank you Bowie for passing out the torch
Aurora is an incredible singer. Her voice is mature beyond her age. I'm not a fan of most of her music if I'm being honest. But I recommend her to girls learning to sing. The control she has over her voice and her dynamics are as good as they get. Check out Aurora with Wardruna - Helvegen, live. It's a viking song, and it's absolutely mesmerizing, and one of the best vocal performances I've heard.
That happy and sad feeling he speaks of, the somehow comforting melancholy she illicits from our minds and souls. I think it is a gratitude for the purity she brings to us, and a fear/ resentment of what we expect the world to do to that same purity. A wish to protect it and a helplessness knowing she will be subjected to the same things that we all feel sullied by. I am grateful for your art and voice Aroura. I hope you feel buoyed up by those that feel the same way

Listening for the first time. Tears.😢
It's subtle, but the note she picks for when she sings the word "Mars" is pure musical genious.
Aurora is so precise but feels so effortless. I just *love* to listen to her sing.
That was the precise note I was waiting expectantly for. 🖤
Thats the part that makes me just weep.
Really nice. Reminded me of a song the female character sang in "Once".
Shout out to the pianist. Softly and flawlessly guiding those vocals. A great performance by both.

Bowie sing it with anger, while Aurora sing it with disappointment. Wonderful, thank you.

I feel the disappointment as well, but i also sense a lot of frustration, leaning to desperation.

When she sings word “” mars “” is so great
She is a Viking fairy. No one can touch her because she is from a whole different world.
