Obviously this would be more epic if you went full TopGear and converted the Delica to an amphibious vehicle and sailed all of the way to the UK! I mean... how hard can it be?!

Your exhaust issue reminds me why I always have a Holts exhaust bandage, some exhaust paste and some spare exhaust clamps in my spares kit. Obviously having packed it in every car since 1984 I have only had to use it once! But that one time it really saved the day. Long trips, older vehicle and no spares equals potential for a less than fun time.

Hey Tom! I've thoroughly enjoyed following you on your trip and fully appreciate the work that goes into these videos. Apart from the wonderful photos I have been most struck by your easy-going reaction to the many set-backs that inevitably arise on a trip of this size. I would be a total stress-head! So there's a lesson in there for me. Many thanks and congrats!

Thank you Thomas, I've really enjoyed the story of your trip. I'm envious of the big road trip as I’ve only ever done rental car trips. I just need a camper van! And I love a ferry ride.
I love the moody images you tend to seek out. They are right up my street. For me they encapsulate that beautiful ugly mad island. Even on the crappiest days, there’s always something. I once drove from Hofn to Seydisfjordur and back in the pouring rain as I had nothing better to do. I was rewarded with an incredible late afternoon conditions at Stokksnes as I made my way back to the hotel. You just never know what’s going to happen!
The image you took on Vik beach reminds me of one I took a few years back whilst I happened to be talking to Peter Snow off the TV, who happened along.

Exhaust tape and a bit of of putty can quiet down a leaky flex pipe pretty well , never leave on a long trip without it.

Just returned back from Altay, Russia. 2000 km to get there and around 1200 km in the region. Mountains, waterfalls, canyons, mountain rivers and lakes. Best ever trip in my life! And this is you who inspired me to go to somewhere by car for a photo-journey. Thank you, Thomas! Have a smooth ride!

@@ThomasHeatonPhoto Yes, three days of driving to get there but it worth the afford. Mother nature gifted me two magnificent moments I didn't expect - first snow on autumn trees and rising moon above mountain covered with snow and painted pink by sunset. wow! I will probably repeat such trip again. If you ever decide to go to Russia for photography Altay in late September should definitely be on the list. Sorry for mistyping your name by the way. I noticed my mistake only now.

Ahh, HOME AGAIN! Relax a bit, have a good meal with some local brew. Give the wife her present and show her how much you missed her. Tomorrow take the Delica in to have the exhaust reattached. Relatively minor fix, and then enjoy driving back home in the quiet comfort of your van. It has been a great trip. All the other little fixes you can attend to yourself when you are ready. Not using any oil so you should be able to get another 100K miles out of it. Beats the heck out of a monthly car payment. Thanks for having us along on your adventure, Thomas. I'm looking forward to some images of Yorkshire now.

Tom, it seems like one item you might want to obtain and have in your off-road-capable van is a 12 volt powered air compressor, or at least a manual bicycle tire pump. This way you don't have to find a petrol station in order to air up your tires after going off-road with them at lower pressure.

At my second trip to Iceland sailing on the Ferry Norröna we had beautiful late afternoon light.
The ferry detoured to get us close to Risin og Kellingin, some rock pillars in the ocean off the Faroe North coast.
    What a view!
    What a trip!
    What a captain!

Thanks for the video, I especially like the images in the geothermal area.
One word of caution: If you walk through this areas, be very carefull not to get too close to active outlets (yes I know, this is hard from a photographic standpoint) and test the ground thoroughly to make sure it is stable. It can happen that steam hollows out the ground from below leaving only a thin layer of earth on the top and the very last thing you want to experience is to stand ankle or knee deep literally in boiling mud. Areas with green grass are usually safe, as this gets brown when it is boiled from below.
BTW: The legal border for driving with alcohol in Germany in 0.5 promille.

Great series of vlogs Thomas, was in Iceland around the same time as yourself and clocked up 1,900 miles of driving in 6 days, so glad I didn’t have to drive there and back from the UK though but no doubt it added to the adventure. Brought back some great memories of our trip to the same locations. I will never tire of watching vlogs from Iceland, it is one incredible country. Loved your images and strangely the one of the metallic looking bubbles with your reflection kneeling down in each was brilliant 👌 ❤️🇮🇸

  • @HR-wd6cw

I would just make sure it's not a collapsed or restricted exhaust (or muffler). That could cause power loss and damage while driving especailly for long periods of time or distance. If need be, cut a hole in the exhaust to bypass something that is blocked if you have to. I had to do that once when my muffler collapsed on one of my cars years ago, I cut a slit in front of the muffler (it was loud) but let the car run better until I could get a new muffler put on (but luckily the cut was far enough back that I didn't get any fumes into the car itself).

Hope the exhaust noise insnt the engine mounts wearing out! This would make the factory headers disconect from the engine & make a horrible noise. Can typically test this with 2 people. 1 inside, handbrank on, also pressing the brake & accelrating. The other person checking if the engine moves.

Wonderful photos of the Icelandic thermal field. I've been photographing thermal areas in Yellowstone for decades now, and your photos just on that short stop are some of the best. Generally, in Yellowstone, you have to head for the far back country to be able to get close access to thermal features like that. The park has been closing more and more of the closer-in thermal areas. I particularly liked the way you put in an appearance in the reflections from all the bubbles.
