    Thank you for sharing Serena and I am sorry you are having to go through all of this and very sad for your aunt. My dad had some dementia issues and it is so difficult to see them decline. You are doing the right thing and we enjoy seeing you when we can. Prayers for your family as you navigate this process as it is certainly not easy.

    Thank you. My mom was a twin also. I lost my mom to heart failure this year. I helped take care of her. I had to close my little house cleaning business and move in with my parents. I understand your challenges. I will pray for encouragement. It all works out. You won't regret taking care of your aunt. I just really related to your story in many ways. I wasn't able to have a good conversation either because of my mom's health. I don't regret putting part of my life on hold and making some changes to help care for her. I'm home again and starting up my business. Trust God. He will provide and help work everything out. ❤

    Serena, no need to apologize for caring for your Aunt. How very special of you to be helping her out, she is so blessed to have you in her corner. I took care of my father for several years who declined in such a rapid manner when he was in his early 80’s. It’s a mind blowing burden to care for a loved one. Dad would get so very confused, get his days and nights mixed up and not eat unless you led him to the table. We were fortunate enough to have an adult day care center in our area. What a God send this was before it was time for him to enter a nursing home facility. Sending prayers for your family and in hopes you find the right facility for your aunt.

    Taking care of a family member with Dementia is very hard, your Aunt is lucky to have you. I am a caregiver for my son with Autism, which I know is not the same thing at all, but what I do know from experience is that caregiver burnout is a real thing. It's probably why I started watching TH-cam video's, sometimes I just need a break and it's fun to catch up on the latest fashion.

    How sweet of you to take your aunt, though I know you must lover her a lot!! I had my mom who has stroke induced dementia for 2 years and finally had to find assisted living and now memory care for her because I still had a school age son at home and mom needs constant care... it is sometimes like having another child, no one should feel guilty utilizing assisted living facilities, it can be very overwhelming to care especially with a younger child at home. I wish you and her the best.. my mom is 94 now as of last week!!

    • @StylewithSerena

      Thanks Carolyn. Yes, that's where I am. I still have my 10 yr old at home plus 2 daughters in college. It's a lot. And yes, it's much like a child. Except you can put a child in timeout when they act out and they will learn better behavior. With dementia, it doesn't work like that! I have to tell her every day to not feed my dogs table scraps. She will defy me & do it anyway or lie to my face and say she didn't do it. And she gets really hateful with me when I call her out on it. It's a real problem.

    • @carolyntemplin488

      @@StylewithSerena yes, Serena... I understand... I constantly had to tell my mom not to swing her cane at my dog for fear she would hurt her..she didn't listen, or to or not to do any number of things... I had to hold back doing things for my son ie: attending track meets or school functions because I couldn't leaver her unattended... it worked out for the best when I found a beautiful new facility near by...I wish you the best.. XOXO

    Hi Serena, I certainly understand what you are going through. We had to place my Mom in November for dementia because Dad couldn’t take care of her anymore. She took care of my mentally disabled brother, and I had to place him about a year and a half ago. I take care of all of his medical needs as well as some of some of his other personal needs. Dad has shown signs of cognitive decline as well, and my other brother moved in with him. I can definitely relate to the huge responsibility it is in taking care of the elderly and the cognitively challenged. You are such a great person for helping your aunt! I will keep you and your family in my prayers. I love all the fashion looks. They are all so cute! Thanks for another great video!

    Serena- thank you for sharing your life update. Most of all thank you for taking care of your aunt and being her MPOA. I can see the emotion in your eyes and I understand. I’ve been a nurse for 34 years and counting- I’m 56 now. I had a co- worker who retired at age 70. She was almost immediately diagnosed with lymphoma. She had chemotherapy for it then began to get confused. We thought it was “chemo brain” but it was the beginning of dementia. She had no family left. She never married and had no children. She asked me to be her MPOA. I went through getting her placed, etc. it’s tough.The nursing home staff told me that many people just get dumped there with the clothes on their back and have no one to make decisions for them. This may be my calling in retirement- to help others by being a healthcare surrogate. Again, thank you for what you are doing. Your aunt is so lucky to have you. ❤

    • @StylewithSerena
      @StylewithSerena  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is heartbreaking and what a wonderful calling for you.
      Something I've thought about doing once I "retire" is work with therapy dogs who visit nursing homes. I'm a huge dog lover, as you know, and my aunt is too. She gets so much joy from my dogs and I would love to be able to share that with the elderly who can't have a pet anymore.

    My dad took care of my mom for several years in the home that I had grown up in. When my mom was diagnosed with afib on top of the dementia, my brother and I tried to ease his burden by putting them into assisted living. We had explored options a few years previously, so headed straight back to an assisted living facility just blocks from my home. We took what they told us at face value, not asking a lot of questions. It was a nice, clean facility that didn’t smell of neglect, if you know what I mean.
    It was a disaster. My dad keenly felt the loss of privacy and had many meltdowns over what would otherwise be trivial .
    They did not really take care of my mother as expected, so my dad was grieving the loss of their home, the loss of their privacy and still felt responsible for the care of my mother. She went for two weeks without a bath and since she had to be helped to the bathroom every time, she smelled strongly of urine…
    When confronted, the managers gave me some lame story about a scheduling problem because of a software glitch.
    You are not asking for advice, but I’m giving my two cents anyway. If there is any way possible for your aunt to remain in your home, hire help to come to you. That is the only way you will have any control over how your aunt is cared for.
    Plus, if there is another lockdown, either for “climate change” or another pandemic ( don’t ask how I know, but it’s a distinct possibility since the last one was so successful) you will not have access to your aunt AT ALL.
    There were all kinds of things my brother and I advocated for for my mom and my dad that we just got lip service over.That was in 2019. IT’S A BUSINESS and a lucrative one because they cut many corners.
    You might get very lucky and find a jewel, but it would take a lot of time, research and legwork.
    Good luck and God bless you all. This is a very tough thing you are taking on and I’m saying that from the viewpoint of losing my mother to dementia, losing my dad 6 days later and being the caregiver for my husband who has leukemia.

    I do love your new format!
    And bless you for taking care of your aunt! She is a lovely lady and I can see where you get your beautiful looks!
    My husband and I cared for my mother the last few years of her life, and she had dementia. Sometimes it was like caring for a very disobedient toddler because while she never forgot that I was her daughter she did forget that I was no longer the toddler! Finally, the last year we had to place her in assisted living and she loved it! And God is so good! She had an old friend she had lost connections with who was also from Oklahoma (we now live in the Dallas, Texas area) who wound up in the same assisted living! It was wonderful for both of them! Anyway, she was there a year and the Lord took her home where she is now with our father who died when I was a child.
    Forgive me for all that! But you will be incredibly blessed for taking care of your aunt! ❤️🙏🏻

    Blessings to you Serena. I totally understand about having to care for someone in your home. I had both my husband and my mother both bedbound at the same time. Thankfully both of them had no problems with their memories. Hope you can find just the right place for your aunt. You got some nice pieces. I also got the rust colored blazer and cant wait to wear it. Have a great rest of the week.

    I'm a Nurse who specializes in Dementia/Palliative care, so I know what you are going through. What a blessing you are to your Aunt!! I have a question about the AG jeans, which have a 29" inseam. Is that length too long on you, being 5'2"? They didn't look too long, but I'm same height as you, and I didn't think I could wear that length!?

    • @StylewithSerena
      @StylewithSerena  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are 29", I measured. They are ok with a little heel. But, I have long legs for a 5'2" person bc my torso is so short. My inseam is 27" from crotch to top of ankle bone. You might want to measure your inseam and see what it is.

    why don't you decide on a color palette? your colors are a combination of cool and warm. Some colors make you look alive, and some colors make you look pale. Have you ever had your colors done? Also, As far as silhouette, stylists say the clothes should be divided on your body as 1/3-2/3 or 2/3-1/3. If you split your line in half its not as flattering. I think this would help your look. You do have great picks but can fine tune. Just something to think about.

    Best to you as you work through the challenges with your Aunt. On another note, I feel the mirror with the hand held hampers the view. Many times it isn’t a clean view because of the background being dark. The profile and clarity of your previous “setup” was much better. The mirror also limits. Sorry the Anthropologie mirror cost a lot I know.

    Keep your chin up! I cared for my Mama until I couldn’t keep her at home anymore due to her violence growing and my own health issues deteriorating. It is a horrible disease for all involved. While your new mirror is beautiful, my favorite venue for your hauls is in your room with the purse shelf behind you and you are walking and explaining your clothes simultaneously. There isn’t any explanation on the couch or a mirror involved. The clothes are displayed the best, and you are talking about those pieces and pointing out certain features as you are there. Everyone will understand if your video numbers are fewer for a while. The important thing is to take care of your aunt, family, and always remember, yourself!

    Serena, my husband and I lived with his mom for 18 months before it became clear she needed way more care than we could give her. It was extremely difficult. I saw much of the same behaviors that you are describing with your aunt. I'm really sorry you all have to go through that. It was tough. She did not want to go into a care center, but we had a family intervention and she agreed. When she was actually there, she then told us over and over how much she liked it. I think she was both surprised (also probably forgot she told us ;), haha) AND wanted to let us know it was okay that she was there. Best wishes to your aunt and you and and your sister figuring all this out. It is very, very tough.

    Thank you for sharing your story. I'm probably the only one, but you asked us to comment on the format...I do not like when influences hold a camera in front of them and try on in mirrors. I skip those try-on videos of theirs every time. I find it distracting and not usually flattering angles. All the clothes were cute, as usual, I love your style. I just don't care for that camera holding format. That room is beautiful, so at least I got to see some new angles in there. Also, I love your hair, and you can wear shorts or whatever you like, they look great on you....and I've seen the hate from haters, so ignore them. I only commented on the format bc you asked. ❤
