    I proposed to my girlfriend at the base of Tre Cime this summer, so your clip of the Tre Cime thermaling on Instagram caught my eye right away. I had never thought about paragliding before, but seeing it being done at that special spot, so effortlessly, got me really into paragliding! I've been binge watching paragliding videos and I've played around with paragliding simulators to get a bit of a feel for the past week. Hopefully I can start a beginners course next year! Great stuff Ari, thanks for introducing me to paragliding 😊

    I flew quiet a bit in the Alps, starting in ‘93 but
    I always wanted to fly in the Dolomites. Never made it. Challenging mountains. Great work.

    Nice one Ari! I found this video more compelling and more watchable than some others in the past... I'm not flying these days but I still love paragliding and I agree that it's the pinnacle of sport. I feel you growing into your stoke. It's great to see and hear your pure elation-and also to see you hearing yourself in that state, after the fact.

    Pretty amazing, I’m finally getting into small XC flying after over 2 1/2 years, well at least a little more consistently than last year. I can make this little 6 mile run consistently and did it in probably 30 minutes a couple days ago. I made it out and back in an hour a couple weeks ago, I know that’s like nothing compared to what a lot of you guys are doing but it’s just so rewarding to have progressed. Being someone that works 5-6 days a week and is lucky if i get to fly once a week it’s harder to progress but it can still be done and it feels amazing! The Dolomites and the alps look so amazing, I’d love to go someday, I’ll probably go to Colombia first though.

    Hi Ari, that mountain in the Cortina area is called Tofana. I recently hiked that zig zag path up to the Hütte. On my way up in many spots I thought it would be great to launch my glider from there. Maybe next time 🙂 Great video!

    Ari, you can’t imagine the thrill I got flying with you over the Dolomites. Thanks again for taking this old man! I still have the dream to take up the sport but my ship may have sailed or is very close. I always wondered why you scream like a Junior High girl when you get pumped and it makes me laugh, but flying with you this time I get it. I’d scream too if I was in your shoes. Awesome work!

      I know a few 70+ year olds that fly paragliders. If you can run a short distance, hike with 30 pounds on your back and have some coordination you can do it. The hiking part depends on where you live though. Some sites you can drive to or take a tram.

    • @josephking7021
      @josephking7021 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the vote of confidence. The dream of flying is still in my gut but in truth what it entails is really a way of life. Hard to change lifestyle among the skills needed. Everyone seems to love the sport. Watching it done is exciting and actually doing it looks like it beats sex! 😂

      Ari, as you figured, I was having fun with you. The last scream when the intro video goes black on your clips, right after the slack line , is your one scream that breaks me up! It’s reminiscent of the famous Jerry Lewis screaming “laaay-deeee” when he and Dean Martin were doing a gig. Jerry was trying to run up onto the stage and a woman stood up in his way, blocking him, so he yells “laaaaay-deeeee!!!” The scream became his signature line.😊

    What a fucking cool day out! I was probably there at the same time as you with friends on a via Ferrata trip, super awesome place but I got really quite jealous of the paragliders out that week, some near Tre Cime (may have been you) and those in Slovenia when I went alone for a few days. I'd say I'm around mid point in my CP training, not sure if you have the same in the US but here it's EP (elementary pilot) then CP ( club pilot) which allows you to fly independently at club sites, so much looking forward to being able to fly amazing places like the Dolomites, long way to go I know but the dream needs fuel... Thanks from the UK 🇬🇧👍😁

    Semantics: I think of a col-bust in paragliding as when you're able to just scrape over from one side of a ridge to the other by utilizing a spot where there is a small enough drop in the ridge to be able to zip over. As in, you're "busting" through the "col" as your only option to get to the other side. I wouldn't call flying in between two cliffs - well above the adjoining terrain below - a col-bust. Great clip though!

    This is such a beautiful scenic area in the Alps. This is like way on top of my bucket list for flying. I am 4 years into my flying and make as much airtime as possible. Flying big mountains is something i want to do more. Only thing is the financial part which acts like a blockage for getting the much needed experience level up😉 Did have a 5.5 hour flight in the alps this year🤘 Not fast, But a nice 82km closed triangle on a High B glider with open harness made me pretty proud🤗

    Amazing video Ari! When you are flying in that crazy terrain, how do you make judgement calls about when it's safe to go into the lee of a mountain? How certain are you that you won't face strong rotor? Have a great one!

    • @AriintheAir
      @AriintheAir  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I reserve flying in the big mountains for light wind days. I use my flight instrument to tell my groundspeed, which informs me of how much wind I'm in and use that info to determine where it's safe to fly.
