also WATCH OUT FOR CABLES! Thanks to Jean Daval and others for pointing out the infamous La Tournette refuge wire. I stayed above the pylon height but it was damn near invisible. www.francebleu.fr/infos/societe/parapente-17-000-signatures-pour-faire-enlever-le-cable-de-la-tournette-1525276740
Just watched your nice video and just wanted to make a remark about the cable at 8:50 and a bit further in your video Has already been taken care of I see 🙂
I love flying that route. But at 9:00 minutes into the video, that's a dangerous spot to be flying. There's a nearly invisible cable heading to that refuge. It has caused accidents. I'm told some have been fatal.
I like your focus on safety. I've flown for more than 50 years and I believe I've made it this far by living by the creed, "You can always fly another day, if you live to see it!"
I really appreciate your videos Greg! Engaging, clear, and concise! Thanks for sharing the stoke with all of us -- and putting so much care into helping others be safe and joyous in the sky!
Thank you for the amazing nostalgia trip. I would have added a huge arrow to indicate takeoff when you were above La Tournette :D Amazing day you had, congrats!
A bit surreal to see this, in past 2 months I've climbed via ferrata in Col de la Colombiere (next to your starting point), I've flown for a week from Col de la Forclaz, on a bad day during that I've hiked to the top of La Tournette (more climbing variant). Pointe percee at the end is in planning for climbing trip. These are truly beautiful parts of the Alps, thank you for very valuable info!
🎉 This was amazingly informative and enjoyable. I fly annecy often and bect stay ill practice this route as a goal of 3 month training alps xc. Your book will be very helpful 🙂 thank you 😊
Hi Greg, awesome Video! I am leaving a subscription since this one was really pushing my buttons! What a beautiful place to go flying and thanks a lot for all the tips and hints. Greets, Lena
And bring your SUP too. Quite often the flying, from the main launch at Annecy, starts late; after 2pm. So plenty of time to go paddling after breakfast. You would love it there Lena! Best, Rob^^
Hi Greg!! You videos are amazing!! In your video, I noticed that you used a Strike 2 harness before the Weightless. I also used a Strike 2, but I couldn't get used to the Velcros that kept coming loose during takeoffs. Now, I use a Weightless, and I'm enjoying it a lot. Did you have the same issue with the Strike 2?
I always watch your amazing video! it is very helpful. I have a favor. Now I am trying to make the video like yours. But I can't download the sports track 3Dvideo I think you downloaded the sports track live 3D. Please tell me how you did it.
Well, the cable was there 3 or 4 years ago, but as it's running from the Refuge de la Tournette down to the Refuge du Pré Vérel, he's above and away from the cable. Being in a position close to the cable is a bad idea anyway, there is a strong rotor at that level. I saw an accident there once, the person survived with serious injuries and a proper scare (was hanging from some cliff for a while). So while Greg was safe there, your point is totally valid.
@@kocot. yeah, you're right. I was thinking a bit more about it, and what I'd do (and did a couple of times) is do the climbing on the mountainside above Chalet de l'Aulp, from where you can always escape just fine. One can even top-land at the chalet of necessary.
yes good strategy@@avandras, I worked it there for a while but the cloud was collapsing so the whole slope stopped working, most pilots bombed out. The second cable is really hard to spot, I agree.
@@avandras yeap, that's what pretty much everyone is doing, hence I was surprised seeing @FlyWithGreg going there low, and also maybe thats was a point missing in this video -> check known obstacles :D The cables around annecy are marked on maps, both paragligin ones and osm
It's a hard one to spot. Top landed near the refuge for a snack earlier this year, went for a hike and then flew down to Doussard at the end of the day. Amazing place to fly. Makes me wanna go back.

Trying to find the cable location on maps as think I must of flown near it..;)

Bienvenue en Haute-Savoie! Great vidéo, great channel, merci pour tout.
Your 'A shapes on slopes' hint is very similar to the 'Triangle theory' by Ferdinand Vogel. And I can confirm - it works like a charm!
11:48 "You get extra points from the internet", friendly reminder that I should revaluate my route planning choices from time to time :D
grand merci pour les sous titres en français !

Your video is VERY INTRUCTIVE. Thanks a lot for your great job dude !!!!
1. Take off into lift. Find more. Repeat.
2 . Land when it runs out.
There. Fixed it. 👍😎👍
Does that reliably work for you?
Thanks a lot. Always a pleasure looking at your videos.
I'm happy to live here! 😍 My favorite part and most technical it's the massif of chablais ❤
gorgeous place to fly! Hoplefully I get enough experience to venture this way one day.
Greg what a great video! What a great scenery. Whish I had seen this Video with the knowlage 7 years ago:)
12:08 Great tip, G! Thanks for taking us along. Best, Rob ^^
Dodgy place for a couple of cables at 08:59 !!

Man I love the way you teach us to fly; I’m bricking it before I’ve launched!
The French translation are on point 👌

love your tutorials ❤ … thank you very much for sharing 🎉
Nice tips. Where's the link for the viento maps?
www.viento.aero/shop-2/flugkarten-flight-maps2023/ gets you to their shop. For the giveaway .. it's a treasure hunt, you'll have to puzzle it out :-)
as for the map, I think they still dont have the westrern part of the alps covered? although at least it reaches now to the french border, nice
Awesome video as always.
I love Annecy to, come and visite me next time.
Super informative video, Greg!
More to come!

A 8:45 : two deads this summer 2023 at this spot in two hours. They were experimented but too low in a bad confluence.
Superbe vidéo, avec de belles explications !
Heu c'est quelle vidéo dans les alpes Italiennes ? 🙂

Is the cable below La tournette still there ? You were very close at 9:10 I guess.

@@avandras above, but not far above IMO, and if you catrch nothing there, you'd be coming back straight at it

hi Greg, How I can see 3D airspace in Google earth??? (I see apps but not undestand How can see 3d airspace on Google earth) tnx for all your videos!!
what happened with the "can't escape the lift" at the end? what happened then?
Who saw the cabel coming down from Refuge de la Tournette? One of the dangerous cable in the alps
It's a hard one to spot. Top landed near the refuge for a snack earlier this year, went for a hike and then flew down to Doussard at the end of the day. Amazing place to fly. Makes me wanna go back.
Yes, good cable spot! It's not the first one that's dangerous ... it's the second one which is damn near invisible, you just see the pylons.
What license should I get that will allow to fly in most countries and mostly India and Canada please help me
That's what happens, you start flying in the alps and you end up speaking French 😅 Great vidéos
