    Do you think technology is overtaking us? Legendary investor Peter Thiel thinks the problem is the exact opposite: general stagnation.
    How does Christianity affect the decisions of the world’s most influential venture capitalist? Why does he think that supporting Donald Trump is the least controversial decision he ever made? Why is it important not to rely only on your instincts or science in investing? Watch as he retells a critical board meeting with Mark Zuckerberg in 2006 when they decided not to sell Facebook to Yahoo!
    Brain Bar, the biggest European festival on the future brings together the world’s most exciting visions. Brain Bar creates the stage for top trendsetters, decision-makers and challengers to exchange ideas in unusual and unrestrained conversation.

    Every time a hear Peter Thiel, I'm struck with his deep insight and wisdom about the world.

    • @johnahooker

      I feel like I've learned a lot by following Thiel on google alerts for almost two years now. The way his massive reach extends into everyday news continually blows me away over and over; every week there are mainstream stories with direct lines to Thiel. One day 5 out of 10 major news headline stories could directly be traced to Thiel.

    Every time i watch Peter Thiel I'm more amazed than before. I used to think Elon Musk was the most amazing person of this generation. But now I'm leaning toward Peter Thiel. He is so thoughtful and avoids labels with such skill. He says exactly what he thinks and he lets you judge him without labels.

    I'm watching this video to hear Mr. Thiel's wisdom, not what the fuck the host thinks of Peter Thiel before every question. This seems to be how the host is asking his questions....I find it slightly manipulative and misleading.

      I don't think anyone has ever heard the angle that the invisible, globalist, virtual border wall the EU is putting up to fight the internet is more limiting in freedom than Trump's wall (See through walls from Thiels acolyte Palmer Luckey of course). Exactly the reason I keep the tone tuned to Thiel.

    • @johnahooker
      @johnahooker 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you talking about invention of internet or implementation? 100 years ago saw tcp/ip implemented in 1983? Maybe pop culture is not inherently bad, it's just that we are so saturated in it and it does seem to dumb us down.

  • @patrickm7754

    Thiel has classical progressive and “liberal” beliefs but liberals in 2018 have gone so far left that Thiels ideologies are now considered conservative. He’s mainly fiscally conservative. if you Research his beliefs you’ll he’s no hardcore republican. More innovators are going towards libertarianism and conservatism because new progressives are striving for borderline communism and it’s terrifying for growth.

    • @johnahooker
      @johnahooker 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you nailed i and proved yourself a contrarian, because he is certainly much more than some label of "Republican". The most recent statements I can find is that he considers himself a political atheist which leads me to believe he's only using the Republican label to achieve long term insanely difficult problems that require more time than a 4 year political cycle.

    My advice to the interviewer when interviewing some of the stature of Peter Thiel. Wear a decent suit, lace up leather shoes, pressed shirt and tie, no hat or sunglasses, get a hair cut, wash and shave and sit up straight. That is all, carry on.

  • @AsafKopla
    @AsafKopla 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The lightning bulb occur when there's a sudden connection between 2 dots or more. This is when you develop a dedicated brain cell for it. You get excited, carried away by opportunities and then you tell a friend or someone close to you who you value his opinion, but they still don't 'see' it. Your ideas are your own new brain cells, don't expect others to get it.

    Peter Thiel does a very good job here. Very interesting. But the interviewer takes way too much attention.. and doesn't make the best out of the moment. What's up with the thug-life-drug-addict posture in the chair. Be present, respectable and cater for a good interview with Peter Thiel. I feel this video is good, only because of Peter Thiel. Anyway, thanks for the video, good value.

  • @AsafKopla

    Great point about the equality or balancing opportunities outside of mega cities. It requires more cultural openness and willingness from citizens of those cities to be apart of a tech world. GVTs & business leaders must put their efforts to develop peripheral areas. It'll take time to close the gap but it will be worth it.

    "These political labels are always more misleading than helpful but certainly what I would say in terms of Western Civilization since the enlightenment, it was a civilization in which every generation was better off than the generation that was before. That has been the way our societies have worked for at least 250 years and maybe longer. There is a certain way you can organize a society if it's progressing, if its growing, if the economy is growing 2, 3, 4 percent a year, you can solve a lot of problems; that's the way our parliamentary democracies work. The way they work is we have a growing pie and everybody agrees to divide up the growing pie; if the pie no longer grows then I can only gain something by taking something from you; it becomes this sort of zero sum game, it becomes more of a racket and then our whole system does not work very well. Our system only works with growth." -Thiel

    This discussion has made me see a contradiction in the European EU model. The individual Europeans want the privacy from being known by business to sell to them it’s goods and services. At the same time they want an unelected political class to surround them with safety. Which means cameras in all public spaces everywhere, all the time. The social welfare that dictates how much support you can have, how much food, how much education, etc. but, they really fear GMO’s, and Advertising.

    Peter Thiel point out the same fact that Sam Harris like to point out about our brain. Sam Harris: We know a lot about the periphery, and little or non about the essence of how own brain works.
    We create lots of minor innovation in our society - like air-ship designer at about 1920 - and create no essential changes to switch the way how we keep operational those societies after we realize how minor are the effects of those Innovations. We did not started to experiment with the design of airplanes, we as global society, we still try to build better airships, which is not really new at all.

    I totally agree that without economic growth, we are playing a zero sum game. This fact is wasted on those advocating for gold as a currency and abolishing central banks. You will take us back to the dark ages!.... the medieval times , post the fall of the Roman empire.

    Death is the greatest filter...nobody would want to live forever, under the power of rulers from the past also living forever...Death enables change. To love is to let go and enabling others to have an opportunity...this is why love is so important when embraced. It frees ourselves from our egoist mind that searches for power (more time) instead of meaning (transcend and letting go)...Death enables change... Thiel is interesting always, but has some bias as we all have...good speech!

    • @johnahooker
      @johnahooker 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Death enables change?" I don't buy it. Change enables change. Also, "to love is to let go" is really not making any sense to me at all. Maybe platitudes help you navigate this world, but don't use such a broad brush, my two cents.

      That is actually a very good argument. I would add death is also an ultimate judge of wicked who evaded a just punishment for the crimes they commited.

    • @johnahooker
      @johnahooker 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @angrykulla Death is not necessary for evolution? Evolution could care less about any human dying. The problem with the argument is he is trying to insert evolution with dying and they really have nothing to do with one another. He uses intellectual aruments to help him make sense of dying, but it's not true. Evolution (the entire planet) has no business being tied up with this argument.

    Why every thing have to come to religion. As an india i think we never think about what will happen with Hinduism it's real & lasted for 20k years and it will stay bcz its you us who can deside what we wants From life. Relax and enjoy the time in earth. No one is going to live for more Than 100 years....
    Because of this thinking cristions (not all) but in good numbers they are converting indians ,africans and so on. But Hinduism never no need to do anything you want you in dont want u can go out still u will hindu. Flexible and thier is no Indian Hindu or foreigner Hindu u will be just Hindu more I know more superior Hindu u will be though u r not look or born in India. ✌

    I have too many ideas that have too little funding... We should talk. Top of my list: C'8 - Coordinate, a purely altruistic, free and available to all disaster aid coordination software app that will also facilitate direct, specific, immediate, zero overhead, 100% transparent aid donations in a game-changing way.

      can you elaborate more-it seems very interesting or we can talk through email as well

    • @sanjuansteve
      @sanjuansteve 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gautam Choudhary Yes, I'd be more than happy to. You can check out the C'8 facebook page here: facebook.com/C8coordinate where I have a mock-up of the app's principal page and I also have links to the 14 youtube videos I've created to date to describing the C'8 app functionality, giving examples of its use, etc as well. And here is my business email: smajor@stellarconsultingllc.com. I have a document describing C'8 functionality that lists other apps currently in existence for comparison that I can share as well. At this stage, I'm looking to find software developers/coders to create a partially functioning, open source demo version of C'8 that we'll be able to share with everyone and will use to create a Kickstarter campaign to fund the balance of the software development. Any participation / help on any level will be greatly appreciated. The need is great, and C'8 is a game-changer on a number of levels yet extremely simple and pure.

    • @sanjuansteve
      @sanjuansteve 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      With C'8 for example, victim/survivors of a hurricane can create their C'8 profile, make a C'8 post with photos and videos showing their home's entire roof completely blown off, showing wet furniture, wet appliances, etc and requesting tarps and mosquito nets for example. Once this person learns that the local building supply store has re-opened and is selling 5Mx6M heavy duty tarps for x price for example, they will be able to add that to their posted request for aid where a link will be made with that store. Then someone on the other side of the planet that woke up to news of a disaster can do a quick, filtered search, find this post requesting aid, see the C'8 trust factors and with one click can make a donation directly to the store with no middle person. And when the tarp is paid off and all involved are notified, the tarp will likely be installed the same day and be able to post photos and videos of it all as well as to say thank you with great transparency. C'8 empowers acts of selfless giving to a specific family, for a specific purpose, immediately, with zero overhead and 100% transparency leaving givers with a more tangible connection than exists with most charitable giving today.

      What is the problem with the current system (like $ aid through the Red Cross, etc). I'm asking this sincerely because I don't know, not in a confrontational way.

    • @sanjuansteve
      @sanjuansteve 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Many aid groups in general like the Red Cross have large overhead expenses, often exceeding 50% of donated funds with executives making over $500k salaries which discourages many would-be donors and when they cannot find a better alternative, often those well-intended aid gifts are left on the table unsent. Also with the large aid groups donated funds don't go directly to the need, but to the bank accounts generally making them better prepared for a future disaster, and so donations often have no direct impact on the specific disaster someone is desiring to aid. We never know where, when or on what our donations were spent. Also with many organizations, especially in the relative chaos of disasters, abuse of donated funds is the norm, not the exception. That's on the donations side. On the volunteer coordination side of the app, currently groups like the Red Cross and other volunteer and aid groups each have their own software app and/or are using ones like Palantir, Crisis Cleanup, etc which are only available to a small handful of affiliated groups, not for use by the rest of the world that could be helping and responding on one level or another, including the victims themselves having a tool both to report their own needs and that of others as well as to coordinate their efforts with the disaster response community as do volunteer groups. The Four C's of the disaster volunteerism and aid coordination world are Coordination, Communication, Collaboration & Cooperation and most existing apps are only in the hands of certain aid groups, ridiculously handicapping the four C's before even getting started by being exclusive. C'8 has no such restrictions and is meant to be a game-changing tool of the people that along with being available to all, facilitating direct aid donations, etc I believe will out perform every existing system by many orders of magnitude and empower giving of otherwise aid donations left on the table in a grand scale as well.
