I was thinking the exact same thing. If any actor is understated it's Cillian Murphy. All people have to do is watch his performance as Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders to know he is one of the greats. And then they'll see all of his other work including the films he's made with Christopher Nolan! He's one of my favourites!

And the Academy have been ignoring Jakes performances over the last years. And because some people don't have much knowledge about film industry they define actors by the awards they received or have been nominated for and Jake stays unrecognised... if that makes sense

Michael Fassbender deserves a spot here. 12 Years A Slave, Shame, Steve Jobs, Prometheus (say what you will about the film, but he was truly great in it), not to mention essentially carrying the new X-MEN series on his shoulders. Also, even though it's just out of the 2010s, his work in Hunger is absolutely brilliant.

Didn't even mention Bryan Cranston. The man who not only became the front face of Breaking Bad, won an emmy every season it premiered. And his little role in the 2014 Godzilla scene, I deserve Answers, was phenomenonal. He only takes 1-3 takes to perfect anything. His improv skills speak for itself.

Balin Some of us have and “The Master” still deserves the praise. Especially how Phoenix seems like he’s playing 3 or 4 different characters, all down to how the story movies.
And considering it’s a critique on Scientology, and that scene is very much what people are STILL doing today since Scientology is sucking in people.

There are a few actors on this list that I definitely don't agree with. There are some that I completely agree with. But one name that I was waiting for the whole time, was Michael Fassbender. The fact that he's still so underappreciated is unbelievable to me. He's absolutely brilliant and so incredibly talented. He deserves to be on this list.

Leonardo DiCaprio is one of those actors who has been exceptional since a very young age. He did What’s Eating Gilbert Grape when his contemporaries were mainly doing commercial movies or teen sitcoms, didn’t stick onto the ‘romantic’ image after Titanic and definitely experimented a lot with his roles. He got his Oscar nomination when he was only 19 (7th youngest supporting actor nominee), wasn’t afraid to try something different and that has certainly paid off. His smart career choices is a main reason as to why he is one of the leading actors of his generation. Respect.

In my opinion I think that Hugh Jackman, Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Samuel L Jackson, James McAvoy, Keanu Reeves, Jessica Chastain, Emily Blunt, Millie Bobby Brown and Dafnee Keen all deserved a place on this list or at least an honorable mention.

Not really, Leo has the best group of high profile roles this decade, but he can't compete in acting chops with guys like Joaquin Phoenix, DDL or Gary Oldman. Even less known guys like Edward Norton or Jeffrey Wright are superior.
Robert Downey Jr. too, and Johnny Depp and Tom Cruise too. Don't be fooled by the blockbuster crap they have starred in, check their best serious roles and you will see they have serious chops too.

@@dayoolyngdoh5453 apart from the X-man movies and Split I haven't really seen/heard of him in any other notable films (apart from IT 2 which was a film I didn't really enjoy so I didn't judge performances). You know who has done that? Gary Oldman. He is the greatest ever (Sid Vicious, Dracula, The Fifth Element, Nobody's Baby, Tiptoes, Leon, Immortal Beloved, Harry Potter series, Dark Knight series, The Book of Eli, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Darkest Hour). He has been in literally every type of movie possible and he always delivers.

Jake Gyllenhaal is probably one of the most underrated actors out there, I know watchmojo included him here but he is constantly never spoken about which is annoying. I think he has great depth as an actor and for me he is probably the Pacino of his generation!

Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler has to be one of the greatest performances by an actor who didn't get any award. Heck it's a crime that he didn't even get nominated. IMHO he did an equally good job as Joaquin phoenix did in joker.
Glad that mainstream audiences finally started appreciating Joaquin Phoenix as an actor now, pity they missed out most of his top tier performances before Joker. He had the most challenging roles in the past 2 decades that show how wide his acting range is

His performance as Johnny Cash in Walk the line was amazing.
