This video is such a powerful reminder that sometimes, the best way to heal is by letting go. Stoicism really teaches us how to find peace even in pain. Thank you for sharing this wisdom!
I have often said to myself "let the world be as it is". Stoic philosophers lived in a world of harsher material outcomes than we do. They also had more space and peace with which to engage their thoughts. In short they had less distractions whereas for example watching this video I had to dismiss three commercials. This in no way invalidates their work in fact it makes a stronger case for why we should listen to them. They weren't so invested in outcomes and really had no idea that their work would stand the test of time. It just was not important. I very much move toward this way of living life. Not easy but what else is there.
Incredible wisdom from Epictetus. This philosophy is indeed difficult to apply, especially in the turmoil or emotional upheaval of the moment, but it IS possible. If you're trying to change something, maybe you're not worrying, but at least you have to think about it a lot, which can seem like worrying.

I made a similar mistake when young. I had a call center job where I was verbally abused all day. I thought it was some kind of spiritual test and stayed for years, finally losing my mental and physical health. If you are miserable or feel like you are going to a battle everyday......it might not be a sign to work on yourself, but leave it behind and move on.
@thereseschab5042 that makes sense too! My job was something like a call center, now it's better (no phone calls), but in the same field I don't like. I'm trying to look at the bright side and console myself that I'm upgrading to my stress-resistant self.

Did you know 'Epictetus' wasn’t technically his name? It literally means ‘acquired’ or ‘owned’-a nod to his life as a slave. Yet, he taught that no one can truly own your mind or your freedom if you choose how to respond to life’s challenges. A name tied to captivity, but a philosophy rooted in liberation.

I really appreciate the Stoic points of view. In a perfect world we would all be better off if we lived by these principles. Alas, this world is nowhere near perfect so, I will muddle along and do my best to live with the least amount of aversion and desire as I can. Also, remembering as the Scriptures say, that I came from dust and will return to dust, therefore this will not be an easy task for me. Thanks!
This philosophy is a great counter to rigid thinking because it essentially asks the practitioner to remind oneself that things aren’t static, but are dynamic and fluid. This allows someone to prepare and engage with reality with more dynamic responses, which increases one’s odds of ‘success’, whatever that may be. However, personally, I don’t think it applies all the way down to the bottom of reality, in that we need to pretend to ourselves that value judgements, instincts, reactions, and our own will and actions are to be “let go” and reasoned away. Ironically and hypocritically, the stoic supposition that life should be about minimizing suffering is a value judgment and its prescription of “letting go” is an attempt at controlling reality by denying the just as real parts of ourselves that may be negatively reacting. Yes, we should be prepared to accept the inevitable encounter with the sufferings of life, but we don’t have to attain some robotic, anti-human persona where we fully purge ourselves of negative feelings or value judgements. Sometimes that suffering is useful, motivating, an important warning, inevitable, a way of gaining clarity, or just the bitter sweet reminder of how much positive love and joy we once had and, hopefully, will have again.
Letting go and not caring are two different things. Whenever something happens, that emotionally disturbs you, try to realize why, and them try to let it go. Like almost everything it takes practice/repetition. But the mindset is important, of realizing when and why sth disturbs you and then actively letting go
It depends on what it is. If it's something you can not controle, try focussing on that. What you cannot controle you cannot change, however hard it can be. You don't need to stop caring, you can care but not let it get to you. Know your worth, you are irreplacable. Try to focus on what is the most important to you in your life, let all the rest go, because if it's not important it doesn't matter. Realy try to see the difference between what you can change and what you can't. A realy valuable lesson I've learned is that you can only change yourself, you are the one that makes the choice to let something in or let it go. You can never change people, let them be, accept them for who they are, realise you cannot change them, love them for who they are, if there is something you do not agree with accept it and let them figure it out on their own. Know you cannot change them. Let them in their worth. Respect their point of vieuw, you may have a different one, maybe you've learnt something from them, maybe you don't, but you can not change them. Realise you cannot change the world, you cannot change anything exept yourself. It's a hard way to go, it is rough advise, but I find it to be the only way that works for me. Sometimes the toughest medicine works like a miracle, I've learned a lot from Alfred Adler (in the book "the courage to be disliked"), it has changed my life, for me it was realy tough medicine, but it worked like a miracle. Hope this helps for anyone, good luck and a lot of love! Bless you
It has the same principle with circle of concern and circle of influence that has stated by stephen r.covey on his book. I apply this method and it works.. thank you for the video!

Let go of believing you are body and mind, and you will come to realize you are, have been, and will always be the eternal, inifinite, blissful Supreme Reality.
our desire for power over things which is outside of our control makes us disturb, society makes us believe we can have control over outside circustance in movie how hero controls everything
Relatively easy to understand, but hard a lot to put in practice. Maybe some people, like Neil Peart, could have been close to that, and inspire us to keep trying.
Kurt Vonnegut Jr expressed it as "So it goes." Are you also the voice of Power Thoughts Meditations? It's a great voice you have and I'm most grateful for you.
It doesn't take long for One to learn how to let go, the difficult part is structuring One's mind to want to do it. That is what I call enlightenment as One who is willing to let go of distraction is focused on clinging to more important things in the bigger picture.
We confuze inner/personal peace with collective peace. We can control and shape our own world, but try to alter the collective, leading to socialism rather then individualism. It may be a cliché, but start with your own world and the rest will follow. If only because the world represents our will. Which in itself says alot about what we really are. Be careful with what you believe, it creates your experience.
I would love to see a video from you about Sextus Empiricus and/or Pyrrhon' works. Still the most influential books in my life. This video was great, although the principles can be summarized to simpler words
When I was young, I have a dumb dream of becoming a superhero or millionaire for me to save people in danger or poverty... Because seeing them (outside my circle) suffering hurts me a lot, especially if the reason is injustice... But as a grown man, I finally understand, human nature... Either we destroy other people or ourselves... We humans are not worth it... So what should we do? As the video stated, to earn inner peace, only focus on what you can only control and let the universe flow by itself...
I wonder what went through your life that made you getting so deep into this ? Anyway I feel connected to your sensitivity on this matters … probably cause I passed by the same process you did .
Amor fati or acceptance of fate is crucial, but so is the acceptance of the fact that suffering is an inevitable part of life. Sure, there are ways to avoid unnecessary suffering by changing our views and perceptions; the line between what's under our control and what isn't is often blurry as the world is not so black and white anymore. Acceptance of suffering and still striving towards a better life is more courageous in its own regard.
The anger from someone cutting me off comes from the fact that they just nearly cost me a load of money and hassle to fix my car. Or if on a motorbike they nearly killed me. All perfectly reasonable.

I let go and I lost my job. I let go. Then I lost my house. So I let go more while starving on the street. Then I let go even more and the public didn’t like looking at me so they threw me in a cage. This is why people do the final letting go. Because we live in a horrible society.

You desire to LIVE "according to Nature"? Oh, you noble Stoics, what fraud of words! Imagine to yourselves a being like Nature, boundlessly extravagant, boundlessly indifferent, without purpose or consideration, without pity or justice, at once fruitful and barren and uncertain: imagine to yourselves INDIFFERENCE as a power-how COULD you live in accordance with such indifference? To live-is not that just endeavouring to be otherwise than this Nature? Is not living valuing, preferring, being unjust, being limited, endeavouring to be different? And granted that your imperative, "living according to Nature," means actually the same as "living according to life"-how could you do DIFFERENTLY? Why should you make a principle out of what you yourselves are, and must be? In reality, however, it is quite otherwise with you: while you pretend to read with rapture the canon of your law in Nature, you want something quite the contrary, you extraordinary stage-players and self-deluders! In your pride you wish to dictate your morals and ideals to Nature, to Nature herself, and to incorporate them therein; you insist that it shall be Nature "according to the Stoa," and would like everything to be made after your own image, as a vast, eternal glorification and generalism of Stoicism! With all your love for truth, you have forced yourselves so long, so persistently, and with such hypnotic rigidity to see Nature FALSELY, that is to say, Stoically, that you are no longer able to see it otherwise-and to crown all, some unfathomable superciliousness gives you the Bedlamite hope that BECAUSE you are able to tyrannize over yourselves-Stoicism is self-tyranny-Nature will also allow herself to be tyrannized over: is not the Stoic a PART of Nature?... But this is an old and everlasting story: what happened in old times with the Stoics still happens today, as soon as ever a philosophy begins to believe in itself. It always creates the world in its own image; it cannot do otherwise; philosophy is this tyrannical impulse itself, the most spiritual Will to Power, the will to "creation of the world," the will to the causa prima. Friedrich Nietzsche, Beyond Good and Evil

13:05 "Can we enjoy a song while at the same time not wish it to never end?" Yes. Enjoy the music while it's being played.
How do I just stop caring? I can pretend to not care, I'm actually quite good at that, but like, how do I actually do it?
Letting go and not caring are two different things.
Whenever something happens, that emotionally disturbs you, try to realize why, and them try to let it go.
Like almost everything it takes practice/repetition. But the mindset is important, of realizing when and why sth disturbs you and then actively letting go
@@MisterK9739 i see, sounds like some of the language is in need of disambiguation.
Bless you

Fantastic, as usual! ❤
Loved it! Thank you.❤️🕊️🕯️
"If the rich are taking everything and making everyone miserable, just stop caring"
Many thanks for your great work 👍
I’m not hurt I’m irritated
Oh I have been WAITING FOR THIS
It has the same principle with circle of concern and circle of influence that has stated by stephen r.covey on his book. I apply this method and it works.. thank you for the video!
Thanks for the correct pronunciation of Turkey.😍
I love your videos so much. I feel a strong kinship while listening to you exploring philosophy and can always find parallels in my own life to apply the wisdom I discover on your channel.
Let go of believing you are body and mind, and you will come to realize you are, have been, and will always be the eternal, inifinite, blissful Supreme Reality.
hello everyone😁
Harro. Haow mut' for da goot-goot dome? 50 too beaucoup.
Good Bye Everyone 👋🏻
Hellooooooo
Hello😊
Hiiii
thank you for uploading videos
True freedom and unshakeable inner peace comes only when we let go of desire and aversion for "lesser things", even though we hold most dear.
The world belongs to those who let go
Brilliant thanks
our desire for power over things which is outside of our control makes us disturb, society makes us believe we can have control over outside circustance in movie how hero controls everything
what a badass!!!🎉🎉🎉
Relatively easy to understand, but hard a lot to put in practice. Maybe some people, like Neil Peart, could have been close to that, and inspire us to keep trying.

Great video.
Yes, life does hurt
Kurt Vonnegut Jr expressed it as "So it goes." Are you also the voice of Power Thoughts Meditations? It's a great voice you have and I'm most grateful for you.
I want a einzelganger shirt with the blue logo. Love your videos and thank you!
"You simply let go." Nice idea but it may take a lifetime to learn how to do that.
Let it be-urn.
Good job
🌟Thank you Einzelganger!🌟🍌🦍
I would love to see a video from you about Sextus Empiricus and/or Pyrrhon' works. Still the most influential books in my life.
This video was great, although the principles can be summarized to simpler words
Yes
Right on time ❤
When I was young, I have a dumb dream of becoming a superhero or millionaire for me to save people in danger or poverty... Because seeing them (outside my circle) suffering hurts me a lot, especially if
the reason is injustice...
"Quit picking at it or it won't heal!" My Mom.
I wonder what Epictetus would say about feeling as if I must travel and see the world and experience everything the world has to offer
His teachings have alot in common with the philosophy of Tao.
Please also tell about the paaintings youdisplay in your videos. What is that painting with a lady in white at timestamp : 12:10?
The anger from someone cutting me off comes from the fact that they just nearly cost me a load of money and hassle to fix my car. Or if on a motorbike they nearly killed me.
All perfectly reasonable.
Unfortunately this is my only social media i use and i find it hard to really call it that lol but i will watch the shit out of your videos here you’re a real one dude passing valuable wisdom to the world ❤
Its funny to me that you just released the video about epictetus as curier just delivered a copy of encheiridion to my door yesterday
"Don't give a f**k" - Epictetus, 2025
But please someone answer if we leave attachement and take thing as it is than what about our ambition and creativity? What about doing something different and failing and then learning from it ?
I don't stop the video till I hear "........ThankYouForWatching" 😂
Hey Einzelganger, do you have an estimate of how many cameras you have left in the woods to be able to record those shots?
third like, maybe first comment?
I don't care
I let go and I lost my job. I let go. Then I lost my house. So I let go more while starving on the street. Then I let go even more and the public didn’t like looking at me so they threw me in a cage. This is why people do the final letting go. Because we live in a horrible society.
Some administrative efforts of mine were thwarted today, which left me feeling frustrated and resentful. This video did a great job of dispelling those aversive feelings. Thank you.
Second here ❤
But I had this very particular ceramic mug. Literally irreplaceable (unless I happen across one on ebay). Broke the handle at work. Broke my heart. But now it's a pen holder. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Well here in Australia we have spiders that can kill you very quickly, so yea being away from a FW, don't want to say it's name because it will pop up in my facebook all the time, is a very prudent thing to do
You have too many social media. Happiness is also achieved through moderation.

Let go. Let it come.
Are you sure Epictetus was not a Buddhist?
Similar to Daoism... Obseesion with control is will only leave you in sensless pain
I have an aversion to people and their entitlement !
