It was a very bad move to get rid of such a dryer.
Over time, using a much louder AEG and AEG drying at higher temperatures, you will do this and miss the Miele dryer.
I had Bosch home proffesional, Elektrolux top models and AEG dryers, none of them compare to Miele.
AEG and Elektrolux were the most vocal about this. When drying, there is more lint on the strainer than in Miele.
The AEG dryer quickly pollutes the heat exchanger because it has too much air flow, so a lot of fluff flies through and settles on the heat exchanger, which then needs to be cleaned from time to time. There is an additional sponge cover in the ground.
The drum in the AEG is square at the front and back, not rounded, which causes greater wear of the dried laundry.
Drying temperatures are higher. Moreover, the plastic back of the dryer vibrates and rumbles during drying.
As for the ticking noise in Miele - these are carbon brushes that run on the drum and connect the humidity sensor installed in the drum. This is old, unchanged technology from Miele, but quite durable. However, if the dryer starts to click loudly, it is a sign that the brushes are simply worn out and they only need to be replaced with new ones, which is very simple.
I haven't noticed any problems with drying in Miele, and if it was too low, there are 7 levels to choose from, not 3 like in AEG.
I think that after some time you will go back to the Miele dryer, but you have to make this decision yourself and experience for yourself what you lost by buying AEG.

My old Miele Primer W500 washer lasted 23 years. I replaced it with the WSD023 Selection W1 washer and I have to say whilst it cleans very well, it takes for ever and the spin cycles can take time to get spinning. I'm not as impressed as my old 23 year Miele. I miss the outer stainless steel drum and should had paid a bit more for it on reflection. However, I can't see it lasting 20 years like my old Miele! I've got an old Miele dryer (vented) and I have to say I think I will be sticking with this (although expensive to use compared to newer heat pump dryers) whilst it works. Thanks for the review and your videos.

Could you maybe get it fixed and keep it and then sell it on?? Seems a shame to throw it away when all it needs is a new pcb board ?? Just a suggestion

Great video. Sorry to see your machine broke. I’ve heard that Miele has gone down the hill with the reliability and only inning on a good reviews of the very old reliable machines they used to make.
I have also Miele washing machine and thimble dryer and happy with them. But if my tumble dryer packs up just like yours, I will go for Asko. Cheaper to fix and even better built quality, that is considered best built and most reliable products on the consumer market.

Really? I'm almost went with Asko for the same reason, but right before buying I found a ton of quality issues and service reports from a very large appliance center in the US that showed 23% of Asko's were requiring service within the first year of install. It's also owned by a Chinese company now, so not super confident their build quality will improve.

Oh wow! I didn’t know that. Good to know, though. Seems like all the brands have gone the same way and don’t care about the quality and environment, and trying to be more and more profitable to make share holders happy. 😢

@@lucasmaccloud yeah it was super sad. Their washer and dishwashers have so many cool features, but I wasn’t willing to risk it for the price point.

Sorry to hear your Miele dryer has failed after 7 years. I’ve had my Miele T8627WP heat pump dryer (6kg capacity) since 2009 so you weren’t quite an “early adopter” with this one in 2016. I recently had the carbon brushes replaced and it works perfectly and much quieter again. I’ve also recently bought a new Miele TWL780WP heat pump dryer as we use the dryer a lot (despite living in Australia). The new dryer is larger (9kg), uses even less energy and is generally quieter except for the first 20 minutes when it makes an irritating vibration noise. However, I am disappointed with the limited reverse tumble (compared to the equal forward/reverse of the old model) - sheets still twist up on the Bedding program and also many items (eg. cords on hoodies) get caught and damaged due to the design of the plastic vent over the filters. I chose Miele again because they have been quite reliable and their dryers seem to be considerably faster than any other brands. I previously had an Asko T784HP as a second dryer. That worked very well and was relatively quiet but it only tumbles in 1 direction and takes longer to dry. I gave it to my mother and she’s very happy with it. I had considered Bosch (generally only tumble in 1 direction) and AEG/Electrolux but I was concerned about the lack of a fine filter in front of the condenser so I hope you have better luck and I will be interested to hear how it goes.

I bought a used Miele Washer, and the touchscreen was the first thing that made issues. Spare parts = expensive here.
Miele gave me tips to work around it.
Since it is set up in a dryer environment, the problems went away.
I got a new Miele dryer (slightly newer model than yours), and I am quite concerned about the eletronics breaking down. I hope because it's a newer model they fixed this. But who knows.
Sad to hear you had the electronics/PCB issue.

I purchased the EcoSpeed & Steam 9kg dryer just a couple of years ago at £1650 and have had the exact same problem with the ticking noise from the moisture sensor. Clearly the system has not been updated since this model. I had Miele out 3 times but there’s nothing that can be done. Absolutely ridiculous that anything this premium would make this sound, it’s incredibly annoying. Even with the door to the room shut the ticking noise can be heard, drives me crazy.

That's the unfortunate thing about these expensive Miele appliances: the only thing that's guaranteed is that they're expensive, not that they'll last as long as you'd expect for the price.

I think the not 100% dry is for when the items are to be ironed right away to prevent wrinkles. What are you getting to replace it?

omg the ticking in Miele washers and dryers is super annoying. I have new Excellence models with touchscreens and the constant ticking the drum rotates on either is maddening. Makes the whole product seem cheap.

Mine is heat pump Miele - cost half a kidney and it’s the worst product ever. It will barely do one load, constantly beeping clean the damn filter, bought it for its ‘quite’ element. It sounds like a steam train. Had the guy out he said he would have to change the whole drum - never came back.
Note to self : I’ll never buy a Miele anything ever again and I’ve been a long time customer. But this is a bad product.
