The Moana 2 Teaser Looks Great - So Why Are People Worried?

- We finally have more than 10 seconds of Moana 2 footage, hooray! I’m honestly pretty excited for this movie to come out, but it seems my enthusiasm is not exactly shared if you believe the internet to be a reflection of society. In any case, I thought I’d die into the latest trailer, talk about my latest theories as to what could be going on and why I think people may be nervous for the sequel to a beloved masterpiece. Enjoy.

Dude the last Disney sequel was frozen 2 and it was 5 years before and there are only 2 sequels in modern era of Disney why people are so made at this this movie haven't been realised yet.

Umm tangled the series was a TV series and it was really good and if it was a sequel it would have been really bad

I loved tangled the series for the most part, but yeah I agree it wouldn't work too well for a movie. A movie would have to condense everything that happens even more, and tbh the pacing in season 3 and the plot threads were not satisfactorily handled imo
Tangled the series started sucking after season 3, so if that was a sequel, it was terrible
The trailer was not bad, but it does kinda look a lot like the first movie again. Say what you want about Frozen 2, but the teaser had everyone floored because of how different it made the film look from its predecessor. Completely distinct visuals, settings, and even tone. Everything looked new. This looks kinda generic and like it'll be treading too much familiar ground to stand out.
Frozen 2 was the most hyped Disney animated sequel for all time. I hope Moana 2 will at least deliver better story and final product to make its decent teasers all worth it.
I think it's because in Frozen 2, they could easily change how the story looked. The first one was all snow and going through a cold winter, the second one was fall and exploring more elements. Moana 2 could bring other spirits in for sure, but than it would be like Frozen 2, you can't change the beach that much. It can't be changed with a different season since it is a beach too. Plus, it only looked new because the 2013 animation was clearly worse than 2019. Sure animation had a lot of time to improve since 2016 but in 2016 it had already improved so much. I mean, just watch Moana. Those visuals, effects, everything was different from frozen, and beautiful. Most of what I said is just yap, but I hope you get what I mean
With the exception of the music and animation, Frozen 2 was a terrible movie but yeah, even I have to agree the teaser trailer was probably the best I've ever seen for a animated movie. This is in part because the editor(s) chose the most visually impressive scenes from the movie, accompanied with epic music (A remake of Vuelie with Aurora), and made the story seem like an grand epic adventure (instead of a depressing white savior reparations narrative) that would build upon the first film and its characters (instead of everyone acting OOC).
In comparison, the Moana trailer chose the most boring parts to advertise--lighting bolt strikes Moana while she's holding a bowl, Moana getting hit with tranquilizer darts by coconut people, Moana talking to her pig. BORINNNGGG. This is a seafaring adventure, right? Why not show Moana exploring dangerous territory or in epic battle? Get people hyped.
Well, considering Disney's recent track record of producing a consecutive string of flops, insulting and belittling the very people they're supposed to be appealing to, and relying far too much on a demographic that doesn't actually support the things they claim they want, some skepticism is pretty understandable.
True. They should try to be more (or actually) receptive and actually try to put more effort into their stories and characters. Maybe if they did, they could achieve a possible success again. But given the *pace* they’re going at and how they treat their staff and the general audience, yeah, I don’t see them digging their way out of the ditch they created.
You can totally tell the animation was done outside of the main Disney studio. Moana’s face is very different. Even the necklace is different

@@mintydraws3962 Possibly, but probably not. Disney isn't reusing its older assets, so Moana's model has to be rebuild using new technology. They did the same thing with frozen 2.
For some reason, everyone seems to think that it is a tv series abridged and edited into a movie when really it most likely did not get far into production as a series at all.
They wouldn't have used this level of animation for a series- especially with how monsters at work is going 🫤

that and if we assume the length of each episode was roughly 20 mins and it was somewhere around 5-6 episodes they actually wouldnt have cut out that much for the plot, mostly likely streamlined some things, updated the animation and once u cut out the credits maybe they slightly retooled the plot to flow more smoothly
Every story beat in the teaser looks like the original. She goes on a voyage with Maui across the ocean to figure out a calling. It’s not a self discovery journey like before but it’s a discovery journey nonetheless. I’m a little biased since I didn’t like Moana originally but I’m still going to go in with an open mind on the day of the release.
I hope this movie doesn't do the the same thing as Atlantis 2 and Tarzan and Jane.

@@matheussanthiago9685 Atlantis 2 and Tarzan and Jane weren't really sequels. More TV show pilot episodes. They were both just concepts that got all squished together once they decided they weren't going to make shows for these two. Beauty and the Beast got this treatment too. Also terrible. I think they stopped that trend years ago once they stopped doing straight to DVD sequels.

Probably cause Disney has been scatterbrained at best when it comes to their filmography. A lot of people are burned out on em as a brand so any upcoming movies that are releasing automatically fall under scrutiny

Not just that, there’s also the general writing to consider as well.
I just worry about them adding extra characters that the audience won’t give a damn about. I rather it just stay with the dynamic duo of Moana and Maui. If they had to add someone new it should be just be one additional person so it doesn’t feel overcrowded.
I loved the first Moana, but I'm a bit worried about this one. The whole idea of reuniting with another tribe(s) really reminds me of Raya and how that movie would've worked so well as a series. My biggest concern is the pacing. If it was originally intended as a series, they definitely had to cut some content or squish it all together to fit into a feature length movie. But I guess we will see when it comes out. On the other hand, the visuals do actually look stunning
I'm just glad the child in the trailer is moana's parents second daughter and not moana and maui's daughter
Yeah. Why do some people even think it’s their kid? They aren’t even a couple or near being one.
The animation looks nicer than I was expecting considering this was going to be a TV show, I think people are still concerned about the writing quality. Ralph Breaks The Internet and Frozen 2 also have nice animation consistent with their predecessors but the writing was said to be a downgrade for both. I didn't see Frozen 2 so I can't comment on how inferior that movie is to the first Frozen but Ralph Breaks The Internet definitely was a letdown for me anyway compared to Wreck It Ralph.
We haven't had news on the show for a while. It's very likely it was in production to be a movie much longer than it was planned as a tv show.

Yeah you're probably right. If it was really planned to be a TV show this whole time until Bob Iger made the announcement that we're making a Moana 2, then the animation quality would probably be noticeably cheaper and rushed looking. But this looks pretty consistent with the original Moana. I guess it was just the optics of how they announced it that made it look like this was being rushed out at the last minute following Wish's disappointment at the box office.
@@colbystearns5066 I think most people are trashing it is because the last two Disney films have been terrible and unsuccessful, as well as fatigue of sequels (and the fact that this is only Disney's 4th theatrical sequel) and the director, screenwriter, and songwriter are different from the OG film.
The Whole World was asking for Moana 2 and When it's Finally Announced They're Annoyed and think It's gonna be Terrible

To be honest, I watched the movie too many times. The first time, on a school trip and other times was forced. It stale now, and I hate it, so I don't really want a sequel.
Who wouldn't be excited to see four to five tv episodes stitched together and disguised as a proper movie? It was BELOVED when Beauty and the Beast did it.

I think it will probably be an ok move. Watchable at least, but im not expecting anything spectacular like the original. Im honestly expecting something about the quality of frozen 2. Visually stunning, a few good moment, but really rushed (production wise) and lacking a cohesive and compelling story. If I see it I see it, but I dont think I'll go out of my way to watch this one.
I have to disagree. I think frozen 2 raises the standard because what they didn’t have in plot they completely made up in character development, motif’s and if they make a third movie, it’ll have been the perfect transition sequel. At least frozen 2 has a different (though weaker) plot - moana 2 looks identical to the last movie but in hoping to be surprised.

Just worried because I don’t really see much of a story going on in the Trailer. The first one had an amazing plot and a great twist. This one just seems like it won’t have much going on, and it worries me.
This sounds to me like what they did for Aladdin back in the day. They released the first movie, was a massive hit. Made a second movie, Return of Jafair, which helped jump start the tv show. Then they ended the franchise on the third movie, King of Thieves. Moana seems like it will go down that same route.
if Tamatoa has a bigger role in this film I can see Schaffrillas giving it a 10/10!/

I’m only not seeing it because it’s a slap in the face of artists for Disney hired the Bridgerton Musical girls. They didn’t even rehire Miranda who understands & respects cultural differences.
I think we're all just nervous because of all of Disney's latest flops both in theaters and on Disney+. And they announced a live action Moana AND a sequel movie A N D Frozen 3 and 4 at the SAME TIME. Audiences are just tired of sequels and want something NEW (that's actually good. No I don't think Wish was good)
True, and Wish was good at first with its scrapped concepts. But if you want to see a better version of Wish, there’s this indie rewrite called Alicia and the Kingdom of Starlight being made by PinkieMachine Studios, an artist TH-camr. Her channel has storyboard animatics for the film, and they’re pretty great (from my perspective at least). Just a recommendation. You don’t have to check it out if you don’t want to.

When they had Once upon a Studio I thought that wiuld be all, but here we are with Mufasa and a sequel for Moana
I don't really know why no one is mentioning this, but I'm mostly excited about the background music. I have been listening to the ones from the first movie over and over again without getting tired of it. And so, I cannot wait for the ones in this movie. 🤩 (I would like to consider myself as a music and song geek, so yeah. ☺)

M2 could basically be an XXL pilot for the series.
Obviously a full length feature film will need suitably large quest for the heroes to fulfill. But it could also leave a fair number of loose ends for the series to tie into.
I still feel weird about Barlow and Bear doing the music. Disney hiring them - after all the copyright crimes they committed - feels really scummy and like such a bad omen.

It was the Wish movie and all of the other sequels to Disney movies that got me not excited. Some great movies just don't need a second one.

There have been many direct-to-video/dvd sequels in the 90s&00s that were more or less a mash up of what were clearly meant to be episodes of a tv show thus don’t really hold up together for the expected connective narrative of a feature film.

I do agree that there are a lot of movies that didn’t need a sequel and Mary Poppins is one of them
But I think that Moana needed one
It had a great ending but it left me thinking that there was more to come
I hope with trying to make it a tv series there’s a good story line there so not as rushed as people might expect. Overall I’m just tired of the sequels want good original content, and I think the hard core haters of Disney attacked Wish so much that Disney is going back into its shell

My main concern for this is the synopsis(?), it barely tells us anything about the plot, and i am scared that it will be one of those typical adventure movies with nothing special to make it unique and interesting. Im not saying that adventure movies are bad, tons of them are actually fun to watch but ive seen too many of them that ive grown bored of this premise(this is more of a personal probkem for me).Basically, im afraid that it's going to be a boring movie/plot with equally boring new characters.
Please, Disney, just have Tomatoa. That would be peak.

I think the issue comes from the lost respect from Disney this past year or two.
Because no one asked for a sequal to this even hen there have probably been discssion about what a sequal to Moana could have been like. Whatever this is, I just know it's never gonna give up to the already existing masterpiece that is the one aand ONLY Moana.

Netflix Witcher diminished magic to simple tricks that aren't closely as powerful, used the ugliest actresses and the laziest costume and makeup artists they could find, they could find. Netflix Yen also acts submissive when it's supposed to be the opposite. Totally woke.
The Great declares representation, but represents anything, but actual Russian culture and struggles, showing dumb stereotypes and US Democrat politics instead. That's actually offensive. And woke.

I know this is kind of off topic but the movie’s releasing on my birthday lol
When I first saw the trailer, I honestly wasn't all that hooked because a good chunk of it felt like it's just repeating events from he first film, but I'm open that the next few trailer will make me more excited for the film. I get the concerns people have with this having a similar production history with Belle's Magical World and Milo's Return, but I heard a commenter on a podcast say that the Moana series was getting to only get a few episodes and be serialized, so them turning it into a movie isn't really much of a sweat. If you think the animation here is stunning, then guess what. This isn't primarily made at the Burbank studio, but the one in Vanocuver. So kudos to my home country of Canada for getting such a big opportunity.

People are worried because when Disney did direct to video sequels, some of them were supposed to be a tv series. So, I can see why people are worried for Moana 2 . I know it was supposed to be a tv series, but meaning the budget is lower. So I’m also basically worried about this. Moana’s one of my favorite Disney princesses and so is my little brother’s

The description of moana 2 reminds me of the transformers cybertron plot abit. Because a lone land dwellers explore to help other lands, maybe finding artifacts, enemies and allies. Seriously why wasn't this a three season series?
Yeah bruh you missed the point of the ending of the first. They returned to the true nature of their people. Moana’s quest originally was to save the world from dying by restoring the heart. But the true heart of the story was returning to their true nature as way finders. Which ties in to the Pacific Islanders historic travels in real life.
It’s that maona looks different she has like a different head shape and I feel like the quilaty is worse and where is the water who played a huge role in the first movie I don’t mean the sea but the character water

Why are people worried? Well for starters, the premise for Moana 2 definitely isn't as dire as the one for Moana 1.
It'll get more interesting though once marketing begins this fall
Its mistrust and trauma after the past few years of fails and lack of creativity. I for one just can’t count on Disney to do their jobs anymore! They don’t are about anything but politics now.
I think most of the people fear, that it could look better, as the Movie actually is. Which happened often.
