    Anyone can go live in a van and film themselves all day. Not everyone can edit it down to such a compelling final product. You have a skill. Thanks for sharing it with us.

    Pro tip: Those swappable propane tanks only have 15 lbs but the capacity is 20 lbs. Take them to a propane fill station, it's the same cost or less and get 33% more propane.

    • @jojoinrancho320
      @jojoinrancho320 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Does that include the 1/4 part of the tank that you should not fill giving the propane room to expand?

    • @skyace2004
      @skyace2004 ปีที่แล้ว

      Came here to leave the same comment. The exchanges only fill the tanks to 15lbs on a 20lb capacity tank. If you take it to a place that will fill it, you will only pay for what is filled and you get the full 20lb, lasting you longer. Better bang for your buck.

      Yep. Swappables are only filled 3/4 full. I suggest getting those weighted Bluetooth sensors and refilling the tank. 4 years on the road in our RV and we have found that most Tractor Supply Stores have propane at reasonable prices (we do suggest always calling the store first and making sure because they run out and sometimes are not selling cause their systems need repairs). Just food for thought, keep doing what's best for you Sir. 👍😉

    FYI: When running the van ac, open the curtains to the back, close the vent fan closest to the cab and turn on the rear fan to exhaust. it will draw the cool air to the back as it pushes the hot air out. Works great if you have a good ac. Give it a try !

    You can install a bypass valve for your hot water heater pretty easily and then all you have to do is just shut the in and out valves, and open up the bypass valve that is basically just a host between the two other hoses. They are used on newer RV's all the time now. If I didn't explain it very well then you can google it and see what I mean. A luggage scale works well to tell how much propane you have left as well. Just deduct the weight of the tank from the total weight and you can tell pretty quickly. The luggage scales that you can weigh using the handle work great by hooking it to the top of the tank and lifting it.

    If you don't have them, you should get the heat reflectors for your windows in the front. It'll help keep the car cooler in the hot areas, when you leave the van, and even when you're in it and parked.

    When I lived in a van, it was a broken-down and non-running hotbox. I had to stay out of it until late at night (10pm or so) and it was still pretty bad. I also had to get out before 8am or so to avoid the return of the heat. It was a miserable two summers.

    You probably already drove through. But be careful is The Bay there are some nefarious people out here. This coming from a bay area resident my whole life. If you get a chance check out Stinson Beach area good food nice town. Nice scenic views on highway 1 going north. Good fishing too in Bolinas area good place for leopard shark, perch, Dungeness crab and red rock crabs. Maverick Beach is a dope area good fishing nice views. I lived in my mustang for 4 months. That was a experience.
    And DON'T GO to San Francisco unless you want your van broken in to guaranteed.

    If you take the gas bottle outside the van, and then put some hot water at the side of it and later move your finger from the top down over the bottle, it will be hot where it's empty and when it starts getting cold, that's where you still have gas inside.

    Summer is the number one reason I went for a truck instead of a van, I would just be to miserable to live in a metal box in a heatwave without ac!
    Yes you can put ac in a van but they don't have the roof space for enough solar to run it without constantly plugging in to shore power.

    Hey! Half moon bay! I was supposed to go there when I was near San francisco back in January, but I was about to start my journey home and was so tired, just decided not too...come to find out that was right when that shooting happened! And on top of that, on my way home, my car broke down and i was just under the 200 mi le mark for AAA...so if I HAD gone, I wouldn't have been...I guess everything happens for a reason...glad to get familiar w/it through this video tho...thanks!

    Trickle Boiling Water Down the side of the Tank.
    Above the level of the liquid Propane, the water will evaporate.
    Below the level of the liquid Propane, the water will condense.
    Thus the level of liquid Propane within the Tank will be easily discernible.

    Great video. Would it be possible to add extension tubes on the inlet and outlet pipes on the heater. Make sure they were long enough to extend up through your opening. Then, in the future, you could reach down there and pull the extensions up out of that confined area, the rearranging of the connections, the push the hoses back down. That way, you could do all your work without having to bend over and work down in that hole.

    Why not have two propane tanks so you always have at least one full one? Let one empty then connect the other then refill the empty one. Save money by refilling and always have enough propane. You’ll have to make room somewhere in the garage or somewhere else but cooking is important esp when boondocking.

    i used to work at a UPS store if you call them and ask ahead of time they will usually just let you send it there sometimes they will charge a fee because they are all independently owned but they don't deny packages like fedex apparently does.

    You were in my neck of the woods Ryan! If you ever want to hit some trails, Hollister Hills is a place you should check out!

    should get a portable ac tower fan, you can fill ice and water in it and it lasts all night. i bought one for my room in my apartment in phoenix az my room would get 90-100 degrees at night because they missed a spot in the wall and didnt fill it with insulation. saved me tbh man check them out

    If you head another 4-5 hours north, you can camp in the Redwoods National forest.
