What is the best way to stop the cake unravelling when you take it off the winder? I tend to use a 1" strip of paper with the yarn details and sellotaped into a band.
No, I am not looking for how to wind a BALL from a hank or skein (pronounced SKANE, but then I'm kind of old, and I guess fashions change?), I an am looking for how to wind a skein, but more evenly than on a niddy noddy. Indeed, the whatever-you-call-it for this video actually says "how to wind skeins...", not how to wind a ball or balls. What is so hard to understand about that? No, what you demonstrate is how to wind a center-pull ball FROM a HANK, not vice versa. Excuse me, but what did really happen to education, such that people today say they want to substitute butter for oil when what they actually mean is to substitute oil for butter?
Although I've been winding yarn for yearsI've learned some new tips!. Thank you!
You're so welcome Maruja - glad to have helped! :)
That’s what husbands’ or grandchildren’s arms are for!
😂

That's a really good tip Tony! We've also heard of people popping the balls inside old tights / hosiery to help them keep their shape.
@@ThisIsKnit_Ireland Don't have many pairs of old tights these days lol
Thank you. How does it look like a cake and not a ball [hand done]?
The cake looks very similar to the one done with the winder.
at the end of the video you can see both the one done by hand (burgundy colour) and the one by the winder (blue)
Thanks very much. Great tips. Wonder why the full screen option for the video is turned off ?
That's odd Yvonne - we'll investigate that now. Thanks for letting us know.
