    Bjørn, a video on how you 'survived' with limited charging infrastructure would be nice. Seems even in Europe or US that is the main issue non-EV drivers list as the reason that keeps them from making the switch to EV.

      With a car with good range and faster charging, less of an issue. And less when more destination chargers, car parks, shops, supermarkets, with chargers....

    • @CoolSilver
      @CoolSilver 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's highly dependent on need. For many living in a small town and not having to go more than 20-30 miles a day is easy. Even on 110v in warmer regions isn't a problem. Someone who commutes for work or trips.... yea they might need a longer range battery or reliable options on charging away from home.

    • @ericvet8b
      @ericvet8b 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      CoolSilver true. Definitely depend on needs but for many people to make the switch as so many resistance around, those things will help I think.

    All EVs also have a lower center of gravity due to the battery, this makes the car less likely to flip over in an accident. This fact also makes EVs more safe than fossils. Hoping for dropping prices of the Model 3 next year because of China Gigafactory.

Could you talk a little bit more about the + and - of the user interface and the software in the MG, and what in your opinion can be improved easily (software). • @palandorstvold5622
      @palandorstvold5622 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The European MG EV will not have software updates like they have in Thailand and India, no I-smart 2.0 on the existing model but maybe in the coming models. I asked MG Europe and they said this. For me that is a big negative but I will still buy the car and hope that there will be some minor upgrades in the future or that there come some hacks or android auto that will give more and better information. Maybe later on we can change some hardware with units that have that option.

    It is not 100% the same car, it would not be possible to convert a EV to ICE or the other way around. The floor is different, they are 2 years apart and there is a lot of extra safety electronics in the EV version, to give bonus points.

    • @dougowt
      @dougowt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not possible to convert EV to ICE but of cause it is possible to convert ICE to EV. There are plenty of examples where the batteries are made to fit into the spaces left by the fuel tank, exhaust and transmission. The Mini, the new Corsa, the Niro, the e Golf and e Up are all examples of ICE and EV’s sharing a common platform. It is not the best way to build an EV but it makes it easier for the manufacturer to increase or reduce the quantities of the different power trains to suit demand. Eventually all EV’s will be purpose built from the ground up.

      @@dougowt Yes thats correct thats why i like Volkswagen id family with there new meb plattform.
      Ev from ground Up like Tesla , Audi etron, Mercedes Eqc, Bmw ix3 electric so they are on the way.
      But Hyundai Kona, Kia E Niro, Mg ZS Ev are convertion from frossil cars to Ev for it's cheaper to share on same manufacture Line in beginning

    • @larsjrgensen5975
      @larsjrgensen5975 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dougowt The EV conversion needs a double floor for power cables and cooling ducts and the battery takes op a lot more space then a gas tank and old engine compartment, and it needs a form of brace to the chassis, because a battery weighs more then a normal 60kg full gastank.
      I am speaking about a fully functioning, safe, reliable and practical EV conversion and not a hackjob, like some garage modifiers do.
      The E Golf, Golf hybrid and the regular Golf, looks to have 3 different floors, to make room for the different configurations underneath the floor, and the seats looks like they are bolted in different on top of the battery.
      I know the Niro Hybrid has a different trunk room, but that is all i know.

    • @dougowt
      @dougowt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lars Jørgensen you need to look at the e Corsa, Mini electric etc and see how they fit the Batteries etc And you don’t have a double floor, the cooling bracing etc is often engineered into the battery casing

      Ratthakorn Polsaen that was also said and rumored about Japanese cars in the the ‘60s. Fast forward four to five decades and we have all the Toyota’s, Honda’s, and Isuzus totally dominating Thailand’s automobile market today. A similar case is taking place with the commercial heavy duty vehicles market like buses and dump trucks as well. I’m pretty sure it caught a lot of people by surprise given the sentiment you mentioned.

    Not having a head rest for the middle rear seat gives better view out of the rear window. And most of the time, most people drive with 4 or less people in their car anyway. But I agree, the ZS EV is a good deal.

    Thanks for the NCAP update Bjorn. The original 3* rating certainly put me off contacting MG Australia, so the 5* rating is good news.
    You are absolutely right about fossil cars burning. At least two of the bush fires in Australia this month were caused by cars catching fire after colliding with a tree or pole, with one fatality.

    A small advice from a german speaker - if you say „Good Scheisse“ it doesn‘t mean any good really. The word „Scheisse“ in combination of any prefix words („Good“ won‘t make it any better) means just something really bad ;) I like when you speak german, it‘s funny but in this case you said, that the 5 star crash results was really bad ;) greets from Berlin 🤛

      When Norwegians say Scheisse and he uses good in front it is ment positive even though it is not the correct way spoken, the fun is that it is more an expression not that it was ment to be correctly german. Bjørn put in words from different languages when he explains it, witch is fun to watch.

    I've just spotted the EU website lists the MG as having two safety features that the UK site does not list. EU site lists E-call and rear seatbelt pre-tensioners and load limiters, missing on UK list.
    If they aren't on there in the UK then I don't think the EU encap rating will necessarily apply to UK models!?

    Definitely battery pack underneath and lack of an engine in front make EVs safer. Sometimes though build quality can affect i.e if test car wasn't properly welded, and maybe MG have improved QC? That petrol MG ZS wasn't good, 71%/51% adult/child protection, compared to new tiny electric Mii/E-Up which got (81%/83%). But the previous 3dr 2011 VW Up petrol got 89%/80%. BTW Bjørn, any chance of a driving review of a Mii Electric anytime soon? It's in my price range. Especially want to know if the fast charge starts closer to 40kw then drops, or if it's constantly only 30kwh?

  •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    11 times less change to catch fire on en EV, and if it catches fire, you have more time to get out of the car.

  • @Gresteh
    @Gresteh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    A couple of things:
    First: Tesla’s aren’t the safest, at least not according to EuroNCAP, they are very safe right, but not the safest, the Model 3 has the highest safety rating for Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier, but that’s it’s only advantage over the rest.
    Second: The MG performed much worse with the EV version than with the ICE version in the pole test (that test that you cited as an example of extra safety). Body deformation is good to reduce damage as long as the interior remains pretty much stable. In the pole test a small deformation is acceptable as long as the pole doesn’t intrude too much, if the body is too rigid the force of the impact will be transferred to the passengers increasing their injuries and that’s exactly what we can see in the MG ZS EV, for the EV version the battery became a disadvantage rather than an advantage.

    • @slavko321
      @slavko321 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you are asking how long it would take to fix, well the packs are usually too advanced for local service shops to fix and you would have to have a new one if you have damaged it or it has other problems. I'd wager shops would have them on stock and at least for the tesla it looks like an hour to change packs. They lift the car, support the battery, unplug the main cables, undo the 20 or so bolts and the battery is out. Faster than changing the engine. Hopefully under warranty:) Otherwise i think it costs around 5-7k and should go down in price. And you can even have a used pack, see rich rebuilds on youtube for more EV fixing info.

    Lots of cars have five star Eurocap and NHTSA crash ratings, and have had so for many years. MG learned from their poor 2017 result and improved for the 2019 car. Nothing to do with ICEV versus EV crash safety. Their 2017 MG body wasn't good; the 2019 is. That's all the 2017 ICEV versus 2019 EV comparison shows.
