The fact none of the 12v sets are on here is crazy. They were arguably some of the most playable sets (or at least series of sets) due to their powered switches, signals, crossings, etc. The 80s and 90s saw the most diverse offerings to the Lego train lineup and they’re not even on here.
When I was a youngster, I remember saving up for months to get The Lone Ranger train set, only for me to go to the store after it had been made unavailable and not being able to get one.
This list was certainly interesting, but I don’t necessarily agree with all of the placements. Strange that there weren’t any 9V or 12V era sets on here
I just got myself that numer 1 train for Christmas, it is my very first Lego train. Always wanted one but they were too expensive when I was a kid. As an adult when I could afford one I was on a fence because I don't have room to lay it out. Last year I said to myself screw it and buy one.
you put the weird 2022 passenger train on the list and not the CROCODILE LOCOMOTIVE! the engine is simply magnificent how on earth do you prefer the 2022 passenger train?
Out of all these, I can imagine this train coming out on top. It is barely available anymore though, which you could also see as a con. I'm a little surprised there is no 9V electric in the list, I love this system as a design philosophy, requiring no batteries. The track itself is rather expensive, but it can be bought from excellent 3rd party companies as well. That said, having the current RC system, which seems to work very well is probably the method going forward for quite some time now. I'm not familiar myself with the 12V system, but I hear a lot of positive things from train enthusiasts about that too, but like the Maersk set (which is probably excellent because of the realism in the design) it is very hard to get.
I got the emerald night for christmas one year. Not realizing how cool of a set it was, i took apart to build other BS for some reason. Now that im older and building with legos again, i wish i had never taken it apart.
I would be interested in what type of a LEGO train sets would you create. Maybe a listing of trains from $160 to $600. I would want a LEGO train with a nice switch Tower, maybe 16x10 studs with stairs going up to the switch tower and down below a break room for crews. A small rail Yard set with a rail yard office and a separate set that would be for Maintenance of Way vehicles. I wish Lego would make garage doors that were 10 or 12 studs wide and were completely solid (non transparent) and more like an industrial overhead door.
Interesting list…. The cons shouldn’t really be based on price, especially if the set is retires because lego tends to increase dramatically, especially trains… or so it seems
As a Steam Engine fan I could agree with Emerald Night being second, however I would add the previous (not 2023) Hogwart Express to the list. To tell the truth after COBI's TY2 steam engine I do not see LEGO being able to keep up with competition. The oversized Hogwart Express is 2 levels below what COBI has recently made. I cannot even put LEGO near TY2 as they look like cheap toys compared to that monster.
my favorite train set that wasent in his top 10 is the tgv horizon express creator set, but i was only 5 in 2013 when it realesed, wasent that interested in the set at the time so sadly i missed out it.
nr1 knight, one of a kind thing looking nice, nr2 blue cargo train (for the rail chain loader), nr.3 red cargo train for loader, nr.4 green cargo...what annoys me in current sets is lack of sturctures that are moving and doing something in place of few small cars/plants/banks/ car-loaders. The city express trains right now lack the end part and you are forced to buy two sets to make it look finished, something in past never happened.
The green cargo train at the end and the orange passenger train (Not the Horizon Express) is what i have. And i have honestly not had a good experience with them. Like yeah they run well when they have power. But when the batterys are low they spass out. Only want to go 2 ways no matter what you press. This was also around the time when lego decidet to use powered up instead of Powerfunctions. And i still to this day do not understand that when PowerFunctions was superior in more ways than powered up was. And in my opinion still is. If it is because of powered up´s bluetooth feature. Why could they not just make a bluetooth brick for PowerFunctions? I mean they already figured out an IR Reciver. I just do not understand why companies see the need to reinvent a perfectly working thing. When they could just make another part for it. It is the same i see with modern train concepts. Like who told them to redesign the intire train. You already have a shell that works. And most diesel trains today are just generators on rails. Just rip the engien out and replace it.
Awesome list! 👍 I was thinking to buy the lego city 60198 set. Now I know it's a good one, because I'm not the only one liking it. It is also still available in my country. :)
3677 has the red battery box and the red loco windows both of which are expensive and exclusive to that set. 3677, Maersk train and the emerald express are all quite rare and worthy to be on this list. The rest of the trains on this list are average at best plus most of them run on shitty AAA batteries. Where are the 9v and 12V trains? Santa Fe Super Chief and its wagons? Burlington Northern Santa Fe I know it is just a loco just like 7750 it is worth a lot more than some of the trains featured in this list.
how is the zweinstein express collectors edition not first cus its big and super much details with even bricks that can give light one off the most expensive lego trains weird list ok then flying scotsman at 2 is ok
The pros and cons of this script are like the guy didn't wanna do his homework lol... No switch tracks included is a default copy paste and the helicopter is random>
Great choices! I agree that 60198 is a really great set: It's the cargo train I got. My personal favourite remains the 7745 High-Speed City Express Passenger Train from 1985 though, the one I got as a kid and stil operate today (although I adjusted it for modern power functions). It might look blocky compared to modern trains, but my nostalgia goggles see right past that.
This list its a joke right? Creator trains>9v trains>12v trains>>>>>>>>>> actual city trains. Let’s see, you forgot the Horizon Express, Metroliner, and most importantly, The Santa Fe Super Chief. You get a thumbs down for failing those amazing engines and rolling stock. I expect better from you in the future.
No Horizon Express? No Metroliner? Weird list
Neither of BNSF trains, either
horizon express it dosent have control or power functions

@@tomooo2637 yeah 20 bucks

And Horizon Express
@@adamb2619Both the Santa Fe and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe set 10133 add 10170 TTX Intermodal double stack cars to make it a train

The emerald knight is #1 to me. And #2 is the crocodile locomotive. And #3 for me would be set 7938.
I got set 7938, it looks good 😊👍🏻
Set number 4 and horizon express are my favourite trains. i wish i bought them before they got retired
When I was a youngster, I remember saving up for months to get The Lone Ranger train set, only for me to go to the store after it had been made unavailable and not being able to get one.
0:01 half asleep chris footage
This list was certainly interesting, but I don’t necessarily agree with all of the placements. Strange that there weren’t any 9V or 12V era sets on here
We will definitely include them in our next video!
Meanwhile Lego 60051:
I personally prefer cargo trains to passenger trains. However if I could get any passenger train, it would be that one.
100% agree
I have the lone ranger set I loved it for the steam train
I just got myself that numer 1 train for Christmas, it is my very first Lego train. Always wanted one but they were too expensive when I was a kid. As an adult when I could afford one I was on a fence because I don't have room to lay it out. Last year I said to myself screw it and buy one.
For me it’s:
1: Emerald knight
2: Big Hogwarts Express
3: 2014 Blue Cargo Train (No. 8 here)
you put the weird 2022 passenger train on the list and not the CROCODILE LOCOMOTIVE! the engine is simply magnificent how on earth do you prefer the 2022 passenger train?
I only have the freight cargo train on this list. I love it

Whatttt? Cargo train from the late 90s????? Most beautiful thing with the two little lights at low speed.... omg
Horizon express is No.1 for me only because I never owned emerald night or the Mersek train sets
I get the feeling you like switch tracks
Number one is the only train I've got lol. Bought it with a dented box for like 50 bucks. Bags factory sealed and one broken switch track
I just bought #10, and I've enjoyed putting it together. Still on the fence about the Orient Express model, though.
Damn. Crazy people forgot what an opinion is
If the Emerald Night had a switch track it would’ve been #1
Oh I have the top one on the list 😁
Got the blue cargo
At the end of its retail lofe you could pick up the horizon express for as low as 70 dollars at walmart in the u.s.
My favourite lego train is 7939 cargo train.

How come the horizon express and the metroliner aren't on the list? I know its just an opinion but still
What about the Santa Fe trains. Very good looking

The 2022 passenger express train is my very first Lego train and i removed the wire connector from the roof and replaced it with solar panels
Im lucky to have #7 and #1

I’m going to grab number 1 before it’s price goes up, it’s going to be my first train set and I want it to be a good one!

It's a weird list without any 9V or 12V train, only Power Functions and Powered Up
None of those trains can keep up with the trains of the grey 12V era, which means Lego isn't producing any really good trains since 1990
Lego powered up
Why did you miss set 7939? That was an awesome cargo train from 2010. Or 60051? Its a very sleek-looking train from 2014.
I wanted the Santa Fe to be up there.
Seriously, it is one of the very few times Lego released a train based on a real train.
Can't be that hard as there are only like 10 trains lol

the overall Number 1: Setnumber 4565 Heavy carco Train.

Thats ma boi. Also think 4565 is awesome and I still have it, functional ... loved this set

and best on your list is flying scotsman DUH
