      We need competition to drive prices down, but I don't think Toyota has any worries. The 2024 Tacoma will maintain its sales lead over the Canyon/Colorado. These new GM trucks are a lot more appealing than the last generation.

      If you've seen a"Colorado" review, then you've basically seen a "Canyon" review, potato/potatoe tomato/tomatoe, also Chevrolet/Gmc I think you see my point.

      Toyota is also in the business of selling volume. They aren't going to play the artificial scarcity scam, it should put pressure on GM and Ford to price these trucks appropriately.

      In the end they always end up going back to Toyota. Love it or hate it the Tacoma if you get a simple one will do one thing that fancy AT4 Z71 ZR2 trail boss will have trouble with. Lasting well after 100,000 miles. And not costing you a fortune when that digital touchscreen dies. I see too many GM electronic parts just crap out. With virtually everything controlled from that touchscreen that’s going to be a real problem

    • @elche1976
      @elche1976 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Matthew Caughey I still drive my 2005 Colorado. Will be my kids car. When i get a new one, I'll look at the taco. But if they're still like the current ones.... underpowered, less comfy, less cabin space, worse mpg.... yeah... I'll look at others. The taco was the best option in 2015. They've remained the best seller due to low information drivers who settle for less because they live in the past.

  • @SeabrookIslander

    Ford and Toyota have nothing to worry about. Went out to the GMC site and there are no available AT4 configurations within a 100 radius. On top of that the required $1,500 OnStar subscription makes me not want to look at this vehicle. Lastly the 4 cyl 2.7 Turbo has me worried about long term maintenance. I'm leaning toward the 2023 Frontier with the naturally aspirated 3.8L V6 as the better choice.

      They're not even at the dealers yet and you thought you'd find some available nearby? LOL. Also like the other comment said, this powertrain has already been in the Silverado and Sierra since the 2019 model and it's been fine. Pick whatever truck you like the best, they're all decent. But as of right now, these will have best in class towing and power.

  • @CACressida

    They addressed a lot of the previous gen's shortcomings but then they created dumb things to irritate people with. The styling and suspension redesign is great and it no longer looks like a dorky high heel side profile but then they had to go and get rid of the light switches, diesel option and cab configurations.
    I hope they gave it a beefed up rear frame rail section compared to the previous gen's small square tube frame rails under the bed. Based on what they did to beef up the engine, it sounds promising but cylinder deactivation is such a stupid idea especially for people that actually plan on keeping it after the warranty.

    • @cndgb233
      @cndgb233 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like the look of the GM twins as I need to replace my 2004 Ranger, but then find out no physical light switch and no extended cab with a long bed option so they are out for me. I don't need the extra doors and need the extra length in the bed. Oh well, looks like the Nissan Frontier is the only truck with the extended cab and 6ft bed option available.

    Thank you Ben. I like the digital gauges and the instrumentation layout. You got some good views of the trunk. The true test is to compare this truck to the competition and to see if there are any differences between this truck and the Chevrolet Colorado. A new Ford Ranger is coming too. The styling looks good, but I am not a fan yet of the lower headlight design used on many new vehicles because of dirt and rocks getting that glass/plastic and the repairs on the headlights. I recall when GM did that design with the Jeep Cherokee and then got away from it and everyone else is doing it too. Thank you for the first impression.

How would 2 inches higher headlights make any difference? My Ranger has 30K miles on it and not a chip anywhere in the headlights or floodlights.. Guess I don't get that. By chance do you have any info on the front diff? I know the $60k AT4X has a selectable locker, but in the AT4 and Denali, is the front wide open, or is there a traction mgmt system (computer breaking) like the Jeep QuadraTrac system?

The off-road crowd who spends big money on midsize trucks will stick with Jeep and Toyota. How many people does that leave in the $125k+ income range that are in the market for a midsize truck? And why would they pick this truck? Oooooo 11 inch screen. And? 20MPG? Recycled 8 speed transmission? I don't get it. I can see the Colorado Trail Boss being competitive because it's a cheap off roader. But this? At this price point I think most people are either going to go full size or luxury SUV. I know I like it. Seems like you get alot packed in this little truck. I do think it's priced right for the market but it's still $50k that's alot of scratch. I think GM nailed these, it's just unfortunate timing with everything so expensive compared to wages and the audience that this appeals to I think might be priced out of the new market.
