      Mmmm… Unfortunately not a job well done. However, as we Brits couldn’t manage to do a development in the last 40 years, so we can’t really complain!! But let’s call a spade a spade; this is just another faceless international development, completely disrespecting the integrity of the building and it’s unique significance to Londoners. Faceless modern apartments crammed into the site, whilst the building itself, humiliated by having its guts torn out and replaced with endless corporate company shopping that can be found anywhere in the world. Inside you could be anywhere; from Singapore to New York. London is lost…..😔.

      The chimneys were demolished for safety reasons and new ones have been built to replace them, they are not as high as the originals.

    • @RyanWehr
      @RyanWehr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A lot of Pink Floyd fans would be really mad if they would have gotten rid of the chimneys.

    • @g.p616
      @g.p616 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not original… rebuilt, because the developer didn’t want to pay for the maintenance costs of the original chimneys.

    • @SuperFredc
      @SuperFredc ปีที่แล้ว

      @@badgastein2 The new chimneys have been constructed precisely according to the original specifications, encompassing both height and radius. The initial reconstruction focused on the south-west chimney, which was limited to a height of either 25m or 27m (my recollection is hazy on the exact figure). To ensure accuracy, laser levels were employed from the ground before proceeding with further construction, enabling constant monitoring to confirm adherence to the specified tolerances. The decision to adhere to the original height specifications during the chimney rebuild was primarily motivated by the desire to maintain the existing skyline for residents in high-rise buildings. By reconstructing the chimneys to their previous heights, the intention was to ensure that the changes would not significantly alter the skyline as seen by those living in nearby high-rise blocks. This consideration aimed to preserve the familiar visual environment for the affected residents.

    I must say that when I saw this I was so exited. But I have to say that they have not used enough of the old styling in the apartments. It was just any contemporary design with just a little dab of original. I would have liked to see more brick and steelwork.

    Is this a replica? The last time I went to London and passed it on a train several years ago it was covered in scaffolding and at least two of the chimneys were gone. I thought they were demolishing it for new flats and to add value to the surrounding flats which overlooked it.

    • @chbl.london

    The tube station is welcome but essentially it connects you to Waterloo and to the City and not to Chelsea and the West End, or indeed anywhere over the river or west at all.

    • @chbl.london
      @chbl.london  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Battersea Power Station is on the Northern line which connects you to Charing Cross, Leicester Square, Euston, Camden, Hampstead and more. The power station itself is just a 24 minute walk to Sloan Square, in Chelsea, or a 20 minute bus ride and to get to the West End, you can get off at Leicester Square and it's a 2 minute walk from there. The Northern line runs from south of the river and all the way to north London, so your connections to the rest of London are very good!
