It was actually great to hear a full lap without the commentators talking like they are professional drivers & we are all stupid & know nothing about racing !!!
The AU falcon road cars with their shape they would cut through the air like a hot knife through warm butter compared to the Commodores which weren't so aero efficient.. make them into a racecar and they go even better and quicker
dabooda49 For the same reason they might go to fly-by-wire throttles and have already gone to independent rear suspension: "market relevance." There aren't a lot of H-Pattern manual cars being sold here at the moment, but the cars being sold are typically automatics with manual paddles and almost all cars sold new today do come with a fly-by-wire throttle.
Yeah, I guess they've gotta weigh up market relevance vs pure entertainment. In my opinion, car racing is in the entertainment industry, and while they can draw viewers being entertaining but lacking in relevance, they can't survive if no-one's watching even if it is relevant
Nothing to do with market relevance....it's all about saving money or making money. Money money money. Otherwise we would still have the h-pattern and flames from exhaust. They don't care that much about entertainment - they've already lost all supporters except the die-hards
Aaaah the old h pattern gearbox! Those were the days 🥹
Music to my ears, nothing sounds better than a HRT Commodore
GT4 Mustang, BMW Z4 GT3 and this HRT V8 Supercar, best 3 sounding racing V8's ever imo.
Greatest piece of mechanical music ever to be made, I just want one...

One thing about this video... the 4:3 ratio makes the track look much steeper. It must be widescreen that makes tracks look flatter than they are.
The track is that steep in real life tho
You try carrying a full Esky with a cartoon and two bags of ice up from the car park 5kms away
I'll tell you about steep......
It's STEEP
It would be great but unrealistic to have that many Supercars at Mt Panorama in 2018
What form of media storage (for a lack of a better term) do you have for this race? It's very fascinating to see races this old at double frame rates.
i think that the race was broadcast in 60fps back then and a vhs tape would record that fine. because its analogue media no fps limits to it
and if that isn't the case, AI upscaling. the technology we have is pretty cool

Skaife and Compton were drivers so yeah they know more than we do
Those AU Falcons sure had some straight line speed over those Commys
They should have one Bathurst if it wasn’t for a burst tyre that year

How does one go about getting 50-60fps videos of racing this old?
theyre not real frames, theyre computer generated based off the information of 2 frames to generate 2 more frames in between those 2
if this is ai fps increasing this is the best result ive ever seen
And to think they're thinking about going to fucking paddle shifts

you just hit the nail right on the head...h-pattern and flames from the exhaust...the good old days
When conrod was straight, they were the braking duels, now it’s scaletrix boring like F1
Lowndes awesome driver but even he can't deny power of those Au Falcons.
