Poltava is a city in what is now Ukraine and the site of a major battle between the Swedish Empire under Carl Gustaf Rehnskiöld (Charles XII) and the Russian army under Tzar Peter I. Greatings from Sweden! As an relative to some who was there this is an very emotional song. More emotional in the swedish version thou. I always know that i come from long lines of soldiers (until nowdays generations on my grandmother side) but recently figured out more about some of the relatives. More than one of my forfathers was ordinary soldiers and officers under Karl the twelft but it is one that I know was at Poltava, I recently got more information about him (from the Runeberg arcives). Coming from the district of Värmland and was in many battles before Poltava. He was hurted in the leg at Poltava but run with the rest survivors but cached at the next battle close to a river the soldiers desperate tryed to get over (many drown). He was taken as russian warprisoner and was in that situtiom for about 14 years and ther lost an eay before he as one of the fwue to come back to Sweden. When listen to Sabaton special the swedish ones I cry every time. 😢😂😂❤ Deep feelings. But this english version is more about the generel happening. Thanks for your reaction!
Denmark, Sachsen Poland and Russia start a war against Sweden year 1700. Swedish King was only 18 and they saw their chance to take back land from Sweden. The king and his army went to Denmark and Denmark gave up and the Swedes went to Poland and Russia and won battle after battle. The most famous win was in Narva against Russia. 10000 Swedes and 30000 Russian and russia lost 10000 men and Swedens lost was 1000. Poltava year 1709 was a big win for Russia bacause the build up their army when the Swedish army was in Poland. Denmark and Polands king was cousin to Karl XII ( Swedish King )
Ronnie James Dio is my favorite heavy metal guy, feel better about your taste in music using him as your yardstick. Also if you haven't heard of the band Civil War, I would recommend them, some Sabaton guys left and started the band, similar lyric style but the vocalist of the band always puts me in the mind of Dio.

You should watch Kings and Generals series about the great northern war that basically this entire album is based on.
