  • Shawn Lane at age 17 with BOA.
    Chris Craig - Drums
    Billy Batte - Keys
    Kinley Wolfe - Bass
And of course Jim Dandy you hear speaking.
Guitar solo, then with drums and bass and a keyboard solo by Billy Batte. 1980 . Venue TBD
You can hear from Billy Batte's keyboard solo the influence he had on Shawn as he mentioned at AIM during the QnA.
Not sure if this was straight Black Oak or Savage Innocence but fairly certain it was still Black Oak. Once Chris Craig hears this I will update the information as best I can.
    ................................................................................................................................
In 1987 David Flexer had been writing to Shawn from CT. asking for Shawn to send him anything, cassette tapes, VHS, you name it.
This is off of one of those tapes.
Flexer has about 8 hours total of music that Shawn mailed to him.
We will explore the first two hours worth in this series.
Check out the letter for yourself in the Community post here on this channel.

Yet people thin Yngwie brought some kinda new level of shred guitar in 1984. Shawn was way faster at least 5 years before he appeared.

Yngwie brought a new level. If people don't know about you, how is that to be a negative thing for the guy who DOES get people's attention? Shawn was incredible, but he was also unknown, and mostly likely WAY less ambitious than Yngwie. I mean, if you're gonna make it in the business, you need more than just fast fingers.

Enjoying the history, attended the show and if memory serves, the venue (listed as TBD) was the original "Music Hall" in Memphis which began as a portable building on Winchester close to Lamar near the old "Clearpool". Clearpool was a club and outdoor swimming pool, later became the Americana? The amazing thing about this show was the live quality the musicians brought. Shawn and the band hammer it! Jim is a fantastic vocal front man "What da ya think about my boyz!? I think there from another planet!!" This track to me is collectible and will never be matched again for the vibe. The comment, "these tracks should be on a release" totally agree! R.I.P Shawn, we love you!

I sure wish I had seen Shawn play...
I have great memories of Chris & Kinley when they were in Lord Tracy - played several shows together - even had rehearsal rooms next to each other - Kinley (Barney) even came out and jammed with us and tracked my guitar solo like it was nothing!

@shawnlane The tape says “the flexer tapes”. Presumably, David Flexer acquired this board tape from Jim or Rickie no? Whoever is to credit, I thank you so much. The quality of this recording is by far the best I’ve heard from the BOA era.

@@fasteagle9959 Ah! Gotcha! Makes sense! Yea Shawn actually taped this and dubbed Dave Flexer a copy and he came to the studio and gave us tons of stuff that Shawn taped for him over the years. More to come from this series.- CB

@shawnlane Hey Crafton..sry man I didn’t realize you were running this channel. It’s really good to see you here and a few other friends too. @jimmyhudson @alwilliams . I’ve been off Facebook for a few yrs now so it’s really good to see you all and I sincerely hope everyone is well. The person who introduced me to Shawn showed me the motherload of Shawn material a little over 30 yrs ago. I remember in particular a cassette recording of Shawn playing guitar at 14 yrs old. This person I’m referring to probably had one of the most extensive CD 💿 collections in this part of the country. Picture walking into a small county library and that’s how the walls were ...CD bookshelves. It was like a hoarder house of expensive memorabilia. Things like SRV’s personal 6x 12 Marshall Cab etc etc. The amount of Shawn material he had collected was amazing. Also, if I’m not mistaken, Shawn on drums which to the best of my knowledge is not available anywhere. We are old friends, but have lost touch and I don’t get out much because of health reasons, but one day I will see him again and I’ll do my best to convince him to come by the studio so we preserve these before the tape deteriorates if it hasn’t already. Thank you for being the keeper of the light Crafton. Each unreleased recording of Shawn is like discovering a priceless treasure. The adigio for Shawn video you posted years ago before the remodeling... was bone chilling. Especially the ending. Maw maw Dianne Mitzi ...if you’re reading I miss and love you and I’m sorry I’ve been out of touch for this long. Everyone please take care in these crazy times we are living in and Crafton thanks again for these uploads. I’ll be keeping a close watch for notifications. ~mike

@john cash Yep. Mamaw had to go with him to Mexico because a minor can't cross the border without a legal guardian. Here's some audio from 1979 show, we've tried for years to get the 78 audio. th-cam.com/video/bzBygtEdCtg/w-d-xo.html

Wikipedia has a good take on it: "At fourteen, he became the lead guitarist for Black Oak Arkansas (BOA) and alongside members, including drummer Tommy Aldridge, toured over the next four years opening shows for bands including REO Speedwagon, Ted Nugent, Outlaws, Cheap Trick, Molly Hatchet and Blue Öyster Cult."
