The "toilet" water dispenser isn't for cleaning brushes! I have one and I love it... it is for watercolor painting, because you constantly need clean water to wet your paper and your paint, and the water gets contaminated sooo fast. This way, you don't have to go to the sink every 5 minutes and refresh your water, just "flush" and voila, clean water! I keep one of the "bucket" brush cleaners next to the "flush" fresh water, and clean in one, add water to paint with the other.

@@SarahRenaeClarkI have a similar "toilet" type cleaner. The cleaning area is much larger, it holds a lot more water, and I use it for acrylics. It's GREAT! The brand is Masterson. Your comment about water color makes a LOT of sense!!

When you showed the cube with colours, my first thought was: “That will be a fantastic fidget toy for my son with autism!” He completely relaxes when he can look at those colours. 🥰 The cube without the colours I do have at home, but… with a 3D photo from my son IN the cube. If I put the cube on a little light his picture lights up. ☺️

I've had better luck using a foam brush to apply the watercolor grounds to avoid the streaks! (It'd likely work just as well for the gesso) It also helps to get the thinnest possible coat on the paper, and it still protects the paper from soaking alcohol markers.

I *adore* watercolour grounds, and agree that foam brushes do make it go on more smoothly.
Sometimes, I like having some texture though. I've used it on wood and canvas, and have achieved some fun effects with my watercolours, and other watersoluable media.

The paint brush rinser (toilet style brush cleaner) was originally produced by “Green Stuff World” if I’m not mistaken.
Green Stuff World is a miniature or hobby supply company, so the brushes miniature artists use are often much, much smaller than regular art brushes (like between size 5/0 and size 2 round).
The rinser tends to work better for those smaller brushes, definitely not ideal for large artist brushes.
I would have loved to see what you thought about the paint puck style brush cleaners, they look great!
This was a fun and informative video, loved some of the supplies!

In my experience, gesso is more for using on paper that shouldn't get so wet (like a 99¢ journal), while the watercolor ground is for surfaces that aren't really designed for watercolor (like a traditional canvas or block of wood). Thanks for all the info!

The "forever pencil" claim reminds me of some pens my sister and I were fooled into buying about 13 years ago. Our local bookstore was selling them (and I continued to see them for years but can't find them now) for way too much for a single ballpoint pen but not so much that we weren't willing to buy 2 each along with our books. It was called something along the lines of "Thousand Year Pen" and if you read the fine print on the card it was attached to it said something about making a single 1-mile line every day for some impressive number of years that wasn't nearly as high as 1,000 years. I used mine for class and ran out of ink in the first one in 2 months.

For keepeng my acrylic wet, i use small box. Inside i put small sponge for washing, or I cut it even smaller, around I put something, whats in my language called 'separating paper', it's used with textil dippers, and wet it.
When i know, i will not use it few days, i put it on freezer.
It's amazing, if you mix specific tones of colours, you can just keep it and don't need be affraid, you will not fit them exactly next time. 🙂
And als, as I am painting from home, with kids, if i leave it for a while, i come back to perfectly usable colours. Even in summer. 😄

I’m a quilling artist, and sometimes I have to cut out curved edges for some of the elements of my pieces, and I’m no good at free handing the curves, I usually just curve the paper, glue, cut (while the strips come off), and then reglue it later. Hullo Sarah, I have found a great brush cleaning solution. It is The Paint Puck! You can buy an assortment of pucks for your different cups and different kinds of paints! The smaller pucks will swell if put in a solvent or turpentine for cleaning your oil paint brushes. They also sell the Paint Puck Cup a silicone top and bottom with a clear tube connecting them. They have just created a new portable collapsible puck cup! I love how much easier it is to clean ALL of my brushes using my paint pucks! I did just buy some rubber/silicone stamps for swatching out my watercolor paints and I have to give them a go! Now Liz Chaderton has recipes for watercolor grounds as well as soft pastel grounds too, they are truly amazing! I am always looking for a less expensive way to create my premium surfaces. Thank you for sharing these ideas and methods with us. I am looking forward to seeing your next video! See ya then!

Wow. The proportion divider is so useful ! The wet palette is amazing too.
And I learned today that the English word for compass has two meanings. In German Kompass only refers to the device to tell you where north is. The thing to draw circles we call Zirkel. But the word circle translates to Kreis. Not confusing at all 😅

Haha! English has soooo many words and yet we use the same words for totally different things 🙃

3:00 I remember seeing Adam Savage review this. I think it's more for people who love really well crafted tools and machinists. 6:55 I did actually buy that for architectural drafting. It's a pain to use and not worth it. It got very tiny curves in it and I couldn't straighten them out. Just get a set of French curves. 10:45 Oh yeah, I got a similar one from Jazza's minis art box from a few years back. Apparently used a LOT with minis and I kinda want to grab mine again and use it for this current project

That wet pallette is great for an intricate paint by number. When you use alot of the same colour but want to stretch or not waste paint. I found myself making homemade versions of that pallette when I was painting alot of paint by numbers.

Makers Cabinet have some amazing products, yes they are expansive but they are hand-crafted brass art tools, Thier Iris is awesome, think they also sell a realy cool pencil sharpener.

Love the idea of the wet dry pallet but concerned about mildew in my current climate. Also I wish I knew more about the gel plate. I’ve seen the gel plate used on card making videos but I am curious if it has more uses

I would use distilled water on the wet palette to hopefully cut back on bacteria.

There's one artist on youtube that uses his peices also for junk journaling and mini album patterns. Ceri Griffiths is his name and my mom got into it because of him. Though as a Print Maker I kinda want to get that eventually for Monoprints (Prints that there is only one of) because it's hard to work around printing without a press unless it's relief and screenprinting. A Gel Plate looks like a perfect solution for more options for Print Making overall.

Clove oil helps with watercolor, wonder if it would help deter mold in acrylic? In my scene shop, I use a light dusting of Lysol in my gallon cans of artist acrylic and commercial latex paints every time they are opened to reduce mold and mildew growth. Our cans can sit for years before completely used up. Lysol does not harm those types of paint. But clove oil would smell better.

The instructions suggested distilled water, probably for this reason.
I’ll definitely be exploring the gel plate more in a video next year!

You can add a penny or any other copper piece to your wet palette and it will inhibit any mold growth. 😊

The avocado pencil case and eraser were cool. So was the colour cube.
I'd love to try a wet palette. That was amazing!

Sarah you need to try the paint puck. I have the ultimate rise cup it cleans your brushes and even has clippy things to hold your brush upside down. now I need a wet pallet, i had been thinking about one but you have sold me on one.

I use the dry erase tape for labeling, as well :) good stuff! DIY wet palettes work really well too, but I do want to get a nice one someday ;) I'm really intrigued by that drawing tool that helps with proportions! What a great idea!

There are pencils that are made with metal tips, but there’s a lot of ‘forever’ pencils that’s just made with graphite… I’m pretty sure the colorful ones are just regular crayons etc…
I have that magnetic circle ruler thing but found it really hard to use because it didn’t stick to the magnet all that well and just kept coming off… maybe I’m just too rough when using it…
Oh gosh, bendy rulers, we all had one for drawing graphs in secondary school… 😅 The toilet brush cleaner is great if you are doing miniatures or just using tiny fine liners… otherwise I found it way too small. I’ve been using the paint cup rinse cup (just ordered their new collapsible one as well) and I’m loving it because of all the different sized brush holders on the top, and of course there’s nubs at the bottom to help clean the brush too.
I’ve tried similar but cheaper acrylic paint palette and my paints have been kept moist for weeks 😂
(Damn, I have so many art supplies >

I have one of those "forever pencils", a very short one, attached to my keychain, so that I always have something to write with; but I wouldn't want to use it for art. That CMK cube is gorgeous, definitely on my wish list.

Wow, the first paint brush cleaner is looks pretty cool, it would be handy at arts classes when at the end of the day a few people have to wash dozens of brushes😂. Also I can’t believe that I haven’t tried kneaded erasers already, that would be pretty handy. I’d love to see more from this series!🤩

Gel plates are a blast, I have so much fun creating with it. I don't thing there is any "wrong". Oil beads, so keep that in mind, but otherwise, go NUTS! I'm still a newbie at the medium, but it is fun.
