My besteht friend Krischan and I played this Song so many Times in the seventies. We were fifteen/sixteen Years old. And than we talked about school, life and girls. Krischan died 1982 completely unexpectedly.❤ Love you for ever Krischan and I love this Song so much, thanks Cat Stevens.
OMG. Having had a very poor upbringing in almost every category, Cat Stevens' beautiful creations established my link to hope when I all but nearly gave up, and hope was my link to better times. He delivered; in spades. To have shared his life in the way that you have must have been a blessing.
So sorry for your loss. My son just turned 30 and we too have shared lotts of music. I have often thought that I could lose him one day, and I don't know what I would do then. I wish you the best, and know this kind of music keep him alive in your heart Dear regards Perry
I might be wrong, but I see the world listening to these classic and the younger generation finding them for the first time. The reason is they are searching for songs that gives them reasoning and clues about the purposes and meaning in life. Something most new songs of today does not do.
I am now a Grandpa 2x's over!!! I raised my boys in a day before all this internet jazz..... I lost my wife ( Their Mom) 10 years ago. I see my sons And their Mother in my Grandchildren and it fills me with purpose and focus. THIS is my Grandsons favorite song. As fate would have it i am also a singer songwriter. So THIS Christmas I will sing this for the family. Thank you Cat Stevens
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. My respect for Cat has no limits. 100% love and respect. This is for all of his music as well as his deep kindness and love for humanity and his respect for the universe. Yusuf, you are loved by millions and your music is eternal.
Lifelong fan of Cat Stevens and I'm one year older than you. I listened to this album from beginning to end so many times that when the video ended I started singing Tea For The Tillerman simply through habit. When I was young I identified with the son, now I'm the father. Both sides are correct. You have to forge your own path but finding the right girl can lead to happiness.
His signature song, even though it wasn’t a huge single. It’s grown into a towering song over time. When it was written, it spoke to conversations heard in millions of households.
I remember in 1971 at ten years old, my family including grandparents and aunts and uncles gathered around a small black and white TV and watched this entire PBS concert. Great memory. Love this song.
What an absolut perfection!!! First time i listened Cat Stevens was with my father when i was young...miss those damn good times...and more than ever, miss you Dad...😥🙏🙌✨
What a hell of a combination love song and apology from a father who is haunted by not doing more in life with his growing child over the years. Haunting is indeed at the heart of it as I've been there.
I dont get "apology" at all. I get advice from a father. Then a excuse from a son. Just as fathers and sons are. And in the end the son has to go cause he's busy. And the father has to go in death.
Misread of the lyrics, this is about a son telling his father he can't run the son's life. That the son is a man and needs to go his own way and not live to the father's goals, but his own. ""I know I have to go...") The father is unapolgetic, as is the son. This is a very autobiographical song, as Cat/Yusuf's father was a bit of a dictator.
@@amberjerome7446 True, but people also get wrong interpretations. Read the lyrics and read what Cat Steven's says. The song was about telling his father that he had a different life to lead.
We're so lucky that he had the conviction to never drink, smoke, or touch the hard narcotics that ruined so many talented singers of his time. It's hard to compare Cat/Yusef among his peers. Where does he stack up against Dylan? The new talents like Ben Harper? To me, he'll always be on top. Sure, I love Dylan's music, but I don't have an emotional attachment to the songs like I do with Cat/Yusef.
He did a lot worse than drink, smoke or do hard drugs, he joined a rather large fanatical cult that worships a bronze age Peadophile Warlord and started Financing Terrorists!
I heard a version of this done by Cat Stevens one my favourites and Eddie Vedder one of my sons favourite. Blew me away. I was so lucky to have been born into an era of such amazing artists.
Young people have to learn by their fathers and even by their parents to know how to Settle Down in Life by geting married or finding their lovely girls or wives. Love is Timeless . Cat Stevens's Songs , all of them, have great Musicality and great Meaning

I'm not crying, you are.
Reading your comment while this song is playing hits extra hard.
I hope Krischan found himself a seat on the Peace Train and disembarked in a happy place. And the best to you. You're brief story is so touching.
💔
My favorite cat ever I named Cat Stevens. He and I took many trips from San Diego to the Bay Area in my 1977 Toyota Celica, what great times.

Wow !! I will loved to born 18-20 earlier and meet Cat ! You are lucky !!!!!
51 years later, & I still get teary eyed. A beaut.
Yes... a great song.... Nothing more.
Shame the man behind it is not the man we imagine.
Half centuries and always also beautiful song
🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🤲🤲🤲🙏
52 YEARS NOW! Same thing!
Great song. Great presentation of both sides.
Every time I hear this song I cry my eyes out. Lost my eldest son when he was just 22 years old. We always listened to all types of music together.
bless you
I’m so sorry. So sorry for your loss.
That is just awful. Cannot imagine. With all the total BS going on in the world it's a 53 year old song that does it. Hang in there.

Still brings tears to my eyes, my father died when I was 14, I’m 69 and have 3 sons.❤
Sorry you lost him so young. I lost my dad in June 2023. I know how lucky I was to have him so long. It still wasn't long enough.
Sorry for your loss as well. My brother who was 12 at the time just died on the 24th. It’s heartbreaking

Such a soul shattering, handsome man in his youth. Always loved his emotional depth he shared in his beautiful music.

yes, a thousand times, yes. thank you, kathy
I shed many tears listening to this song as a young man. At 63, I just get a lump in my throat now. Such a beautiful song.
SAME HERE BOB, WHAT A GREAT SONG!!! M.O'B
Same here, 61 years old. 😢

I'm brazilian but i have to say that youhave 3 of my top 10 composer in world. This man, bob dylan and James Taylor.
Cat Stevens was English, not American.
Hi there, listen to Harry Chapin, tom Paxton,Bruce cockburn, John Prince, all great
A rather narrow field. Are not the three you have mentioned much the same style!!!
It's an insult to Dylan and Stevens to put James Taylor in the same sentence with them - they are Giants, and Taylor is a small talent1 Yes!!!
@GeorgeTel100 It's an insult to compare any of them. At that level it does not get better, it only gets different.
He was truly a phenomenal songwriter, and an exquisite guitar player. A very unique and beautiful musician.
His signature song, even though it wasn’t a huge single. It’s grown into a towering song over time. When it was written, it spoke to conversations heard in millions of households.
The way music really should be when you hear a man's heart in all its glory.
One of the great songs of the great musical times we old geezers were lucky to live through 😊
An we have no Smartphone in the Poket
Pure classic!!! When I pick up my guitar, this is one of the songs I always play, and “The Wind” or Longer Boats.
one of my all time favorite singer Cat Steven👏👏👏👏
☝️❤️🙏 up there with “moon shadow” absolute poetry in motion 🎸 great guitar player 📈
Beautiful song by a great artist! I bought this album in 71 and wore it out! Still great after all these years!
Fantastic singing music really like cats voice, playing.
One of the greatest artist of ever...real talent, music and words from soul, many timeless masterpieces ! And this song ...❤
Sublime.
Classic.
Sublime ..this reaches me in ways no other song has ever done..truly beautiful.
Love this song,68and still makes me cry.
"you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not"--I love that line
Me too!
"From the time I could talk, I was ordered to listen" - love this one too ❤
At 62, I am the living embodiment of that lyric. How quickly it all passes by. 🥺💔
Absolute timeless music. What an era,
Singing the higher notes came so easy to him back in the Cat Stevens era - effortless beauty.
I just loved this man. He saved my life so many times during my teenager years.
My son and I played and sang this one night at a coffee house. One of my favorite memories.
Lovely
Alun Davies, is also amazing. He blends perfectly. What a perfect version of this beautiful song.
beautiful and timeless...
A song so close to my heart... nearly 50 years later....
I am 66 years old, & I still get goosebumps
cat's absolute innocence early in life... has moved me for decades... he got me thru some painful times
I'm an old women ,have always love the song and the man.
This is a truly deep and moving son sung so uniquely. It captures a story and applies it to your memory. It's really sublime
Still listening to every word to this song how may years later???
Timeless story.
Thanks for the lido 🥀
what a song , i'm from Egypt and realy like that song
One of my all time fave songs, this touches every father and son, so true in my case.
And mother and children (daughter and son !)
This cuts it to the core. A really special song in history. Also The Wind is a special song.
The first cut is the deepest..
I remember in 1971 at ten years old, my family including grandparents and aunts and uncles gathered around a small black and white TV and watched this entire PBS concert. Great memory. Love this song.
If only i could go back in time and my dad and i listen to this together.😢
What a gorgeous man.

The best song ever written :) I`ve been singing this song for ever and everybody love your composition and style :)
I was blessed with my son late and unexpectedly in life. I think of this song each day.
This song and Trouble just absolutely floor me. Some powerful stuff. High school yearbooks in the 70s used to quote this song constantly.

Best song ever written……and by a twenty year old genius.
Father and Son
Cat Stevens
It's not time to make a change
Just relax, take it easy
You're still young, that's your fault
There's so much you have to know
Find a girl, settle down
If you want you can marry
Look at me, I am old but I'm happy
I was once like you are now
And I know that it's not easy
To be calm when you've found something going on
But take your time, think a lot
Why, think of everything you've got
For you will still be here tomorrow
But your dreams may not
How can I try to explain?
When I do, he turns away again
It's always been the same, same old story
From the moment I could talk, I was ordered to listen
Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away
I know I have to go
It's not time to make a change
Just sit down, take it slowly
You're still young, that's your fault
There's so much you have to go through
Find a girl, settle down
If you want you can marry
Look at me, I am old but I'm happy
All the times that I've cried
Keeping all the things I knew inside
It's hard but it's harder to ignore it
If they were right, I'd agree
But it's them they know, not me
Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away
I know I have to go.
Tears every time I hear this!
The best !!!!!
Excelente canción de Perú saludos
We love you also.....how are you?
One of my dear sister June's favourites Cat Stevens and I love him too.
Still gives me chills
Cat Stevens' music has NOT withstood the test of time. It was for the 1960's. Look how trite this song seems today.
Wish I could see him in Concert again!
You're so handsome😮👏👏👏👏👏
This means so much to me.
Ohhh. Mis mejores años de juventud , esto si es musica y de la buena.
Power of example
Thanks for sharing! 😊
I also knew I had to go away. I did. Story of my life. I am still alive.
simply beautiful lyrics but what acoustic work by the pair of them this song will be playing long after im gone fingers crossed
