I was about to take my truck to the dealership, I changed the third break light bulb to a non-led light and the key fob is working normally now!!! Thanks for the info!
You're a life saver. Had issues with my fob for several months thinking it was a system glitch. My truck wouldn't recognize my fob whenever a door or the tailgate were open (or not closed properly). After seeing this video and swapping the cargo lights back to the old style, the truck runs like it did day one. Hard to believe RAM wouldn't be prepared for small upgrades like the lights of all things.
Same EXACT issue. Bought my truck with those led already changed out so I never would have known… can’t thank you enough for figuring this out and sharing it. Big props
I was having the issue where nothing was detected. Saw this vid and decided to swap bulbs on 3rd brake light from left right and put the assembly back on and once I tried the fob all lights kicked on and fob was indeed detected. Thanks for the tip man.
Exact same issue. Third brake light burned out. Auto parts store talked me into LED bulb. Worked for a while. Then got intermittent notice that brake bulb was burned out again, but it wasn’t. Then the key fob issue started last week. Swapped bulb back to halogen. All is well. Thanks man. Great insight! Seems that all the electrical in this truck runs through a computerized power management system. If the computer doesn’t see the current flow it thinks it should see, ie LED bulb vs Halogen, then it thinks something’s wrong. Have seen lots of other posts for problems if you swap to LED headlamps as well.
didn't change anything and it still happens, many other people same issue with no change. I am glad that htis fixed yours, but I can't revert electronic changes I didn't make lol. There's a genuine issue with the 2019 where this happens, and no one seems to know why.
Same problem didn't change any lights 22 ram1500 key fob just randomly stopped working wouldn't do anything tried replacing the battery still nothing found video about touching the fob to the start button on dash and it started working again wth Ram🤬
My third brake burnt out and tool the opportunity to swap all 3 with less. Have the same issue right now and figured it had to be the led. Glad it's just the brake that needs to be swapped to halogen. Thanks for vid.
Wow!...guilty as charged!...I also replaced the three bulbs with brighter LED bulbs...and the same symptoms showed up later, so it was not an immediate red flag..we're talking about months later things started acting up...never in a million years would I have figured a brand new WORKING, more efficient bulb would be involved, but if you look at the proximity of the antenna cover on top, maybe some of the circuitry interference flows through there, being close enough to be affected...Thanks!...to all concerned!!...back to the auto parts store... because I trashed my old bulb...I even just replaced the key fob battery, thinking it was the issue...but lo and behold...same issue.....
Did you also have trouble locking and unlocking the car with your key fob? A lot of times I try locking or unlocking it and it won’t respond even though the red light is going off on the key fob. Same with trying to start it remotely.
happened to me as well but I replace the battery and works but I was still struggling to turn it on so I will put back the old bulb to see if it works again
The trucks network probably had a issue with the voltage difference in the bulb and caused a fault it happens a lot on these newer trucks when you use a different type bulb it's that advance bulb check system the resistance read in the system is different and your brake light system is linked to your push start ignition system.
My 2021 limited is doing the same thing. Took to dealer showed me a letter saying it could be led lights in garage. Meh! I switched to my wife's fob it worked great for a month and now same thing. Hit and miss with door locks with key in pocket . Hit and miss with start.
this doesn't make any sense. I replaced my cargo bulbs right away when I got my Laramie. truck worked fine, no key fob issues or being able to start it. but those bulbs burnt out already. so I had the dealer put in some bulbs since it was already in for service. and ever since that day, Ive had issues with unlocking and locking also key fob not being detected. ps side note, for how expensive these trucks are and every other bulb is already a white LED, why skip out on the cargo bulbs??
I have a 2019 big horn. Over the last year or so, I’ve had issues with the fob as well. I haven’t replaced anything on the truck so I can’t figure out what the deal is. Today, I went to work. The fob worked in the morning but when I went out for lunch, I had to use my key to open the door & my alarm went off. While I was in my truck I got it to work. I went to go back into work & it stopped working again. When I went home, same thing. The fob wouldn’t unlock or start my truck. So again, used my key, alarm went off & eventually I was able to start my truck. Got home & all of a sudden, it worked just fine. Any thoughts as to what might have happened?
Start with replacing the battery. If you are still having problems after battery is replaced, I would go to dealer and replace the fob. Also, sometimes if your key is in the pocket with your phone or a wallet with RFID technology, it may cause an interference with the truck when unlocking/locking/starting your truck while in your pocket.
Man, I have the same exact issue, and I have not replaced anything either.. bout the truck used and only have one fob, I have the push button type, proximity smart fob... How did you end up getting this resolved? Peace
I'm having this issue. I bought a used truck with this issue and the truck already has halogen break and truck bed lights, NOT led lights. Not sure what else to try.
2019 Ram, just happened a few days ago. Tried the spare fob and no dice either. Didn't change bulbs or anything recently other than letting the truck sit for 1 week while I was on vacation
SAME ISSUE, PROBLEM SOLVED!!! All you have to do is turn off the 3rd brake light with the button press at the headlight control knob. This problem is triggered whenever whatever you've done to make the light go on. Biggest issue you'll ever have is with the engine off, heavy oversized cargo that requires tailgate to be down for transporting, hazard lights flashing, doors locked, and your key fob will not unlock the doors to allow you in. You'd have to put key fob next to handle and keep pressing unlock until it unlocks. I was sweating balls!
This is just an idea to those with LED lights. Fashion a thin metal cover over the top and bottom of the bulb housing inside the brake light assembly. The idea being that any stray rf the bulb is giving off will be blocked?
Great idea and great video. I took a number of strips of aluminum foil and wrapped them around the brake light portion of the housing after unscrewing and pulling out. I slid it back in and screwed in the plastic lens. My 2020 ram 1500 has started fine without the "no key fob" message and with all 3 of the replacement LED bulbs.
That’s funny I just put the Lasfit bulb and I’m having that issue, I’ll swap the bulb tomorrow after work I was a little worried there, quick question dude has your screen flickers like when you driving during the day mine does on the way home from work everyday but then when I go out at night it doesn’t do it all, another thing does it switch from phone to radio while the radio is playing on FM I mean it doesn’t interfere with the music but the screen switches idk if it supposed to do that ?
I have all the stock light bulbs, replaced truck battery and key fob battery, even got my self a new fob, push start still not working. Any suggestions???
Having watched several TH-cam videos on this subject when The truck did not recognize my key fob I really don’t know if changing these lightbulbs that people of done made the difference I had an issue with my recently purchased 2013 ram Laramie with the navigation I reset it all on the truck has been starting and stopping on the Cape perfectly fine however I received a reset method from you connect to get the navigation sorted which it did not I park the truck and received this Message that the fob was not recognized at first I thought the battery must be flat in the key fob but having returned home and used my spare fob a few times with it the original key fob that had the problem no longer has the problem so I hate to post this but I don’t think changing the bulbs necessarily made the truck not recognize the key fob
In my case, changing the bulb was 100% the cause. Since I have replaced the third brake light bulb back to the original, I have not had the issue. Before doing this, I had the dealership replace battery on my key fob and dealer gave me a brand new key fob and the problem continued. I kept the cargo lights LED but the third brake light I replaced back to original and since I posted this video, truck has been working fine with the key fob. I believe there are LEDs that may not cause interference.
New batteries in the FOB will not fix it either. tried that. My 2019 3500 Laramie does the same thing and I have not changed anything around the truck. Going to dealer soon, I will post an update
Sometimes, if the key fob sits in your pocket with your cell phone or a wallet with RFID technology, this can cause an interference while locking/unlocking/starting your truck with key fob in pocket.
I also didn't replace my brake light. I took mine into the dealership and they replaced my RFH module behind the back seat.part # 68291647-AK and it fixed the problem should be easy to DIY and save money. They say the rear window seal around the brake light was leaking and water may have damaged the module. Or maybe it's just crap. It cost me over $200. The part online is around $60
I just switched out my cargo light, 2 footwell lights, and 2 map lights with Lasfit LED lights. I get the “key fob left the vehicle” warning after I start my truck. (2019 Ram Bighorn) I read about the 3rd break light issue so I did not replace it. So now it looks like one or more of my new interior LED lights is causing issues with my key fob??
Yes this could be the cause; however, I would see if dealer could check if you have a bad key fob first. If that’s not the case then replace the bulbs back to original to see if the issue persists. I believe there are LEDs out there that wouldn’t cause any interference.
I see a lot of “changed battery” responses. I wonder if it not so much the battery that fixed it but letting the computer reset… gonna disconnect my battery for a few then reconnect and see.
Ok. So please help me I have a 2020 ram 1500 bighorn sport. Key fob puts a red light at the top when I hit the lock or unlock button but nothing happens to truck. I get in the truck. My dash says press break and push start. I do that and truck won’t start. I’ve pressed the fob into the push start and still nothing. I’ve disconnected the battery in the truck and nothing. I changed the battery In the fob and nothing. After an hour of messing. With it. I walked back inside. I hit the lock button on my fob and it locked my truck. Hit the unlock button and nothing. Hit the lock button and nothing happened. My dash only says press brake and push start. Please help.
that just happened to me, I change the reverse lights to led and no issue and just change the stop for led and this start to happened, I did not have a clue this was the problem I though it was the battery on the key and change it but it kept happening, I will put back the old light and see how It works
i have a 19' with the same problem at only 18k miles and all original, i replaced the batteries in both key fobs and no change. The dealer has had it for a week, still waiting to hear back.
That’s not the problem unfortunately. My wife has a 2020 ram rebel and nothing has been changed in her truck and she had the same problem. I just switched the batteries out and it’s good.
Same, no reason, just quit working. Nothing changed. Hauled my camper. Red light comes on when I hit fob. I will try to start truck with fob. Both fobs quit at same time so it has to be the truck.
Try a different brand LED. I used LASFIT and I have no issues with them for my cargo lights. However; the LASFIT 3rd brake light did not work for me and I had to swap back to the original bulb.
Mine had this issue after i topped off my wiper fluid😂🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️..keyfob will work only if i lock my other car which is a Kia..will work for 1minute then key fob wont work again..what a stupid issue my 2019 ram has🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️😡 just imagine i had to lock my kia so that the ram keyfob will work only for a minute..🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
It may be the third brake light if you changed that. The cargo lights did not cause any interference for me. I used the LASFIT cargo LED bulbs. However, the third brake light did cause an interference and I replaced the third brake light bulb back to halogen.

I put led interior lights in my bighorn but one burnt out out would that cause my key fob starting problem

Any idea how to make it so that Bluetooth media starts when the truck starts instead of defaulting to the radio every time the truck starts?
My 23 came with LED's and I have this issue. Dealer will have to find a better solution because I payed good money for LED's!
Me too…. I’m having the same problem…smh 70,000 dollar truck no bueno..
I just solved my same issue with ram 2019 bu simply unplugging the bttery and puttin back on after 2 mins
