Sample Lecture Series: Aims of Education with Amy Burns

This lecture will focus on the key questions surrounding education. Why do we attend school? How should children and youth be educated and what should they learn? And finally, why has it changed (or not) in the past 150 years and who controls education now? To be fully engaged in education means to understand the many aims and purposes it serves and this lecture will examine the many perspectives that influence these questions. It will engage with the philosophy of education that underpins all we do and grapple with some of the big questions underlying a central experience in the life of Canadians...that of going to school.
