I’m completely new at painting ceramics and have questioned why in the world anyone would base coat anything in black! You have explained it so beautifully, I now understand. Thank you
Thank you soo much for doing these videos. I’m learning so much. When I painted ceramics way back we didn’t do any of the shading like this. What an incredible look!!
I enjoyed watching you do your paintings, very nice and clean work. I’m starting a new class , at our Sr Center. I’m looking for all the same thing, so we’re all working on the same thing, and learning together, then or next Item will be their choice, we’ll visit the ceramic shop, pick out what we want, some people may want to make Gifts, for our loved ones. Do you have any advice for us ? What kind of ceramic piece should we start with ? I love the bird planter, most of us have plenty of what knots,so it’s kind of hard to select items, would love to see some of other items, do you have a shop close buy ? Or do order your items. Than you for sharing with us. I Love your light bulb it’s precious. I still have a baby penguin and momma on skis, they are so cute, and very old I keep them in my china hutch. But they definitely are easy to break, I use to get all paint magazines, and this one had all kinds of ideas to do with light bulbs, but after I lost my husband past, my kids got rid of most my things And sold my house, I wasn’t in good shape, so I don’t have as much as I had, of course my little house if full. I love crafts, making things, and helping others. Still don’t get around as good as I did in my 20s . 👍💕🥰
Tip instead of using you plastic paint try , use a ceramic flat tile, they wash off really well, and if it has dried comes off with a razor blade, I have been using just on tile for over ten years. I hope this is helpful 😊
Hi Terri, I use all kinds of things, tiles being one - I love finding tiles or glass trivets at goodwill. If you let the paint build up you don’t have to scrape it you can just peel it off. And some people even use the paint blobs in their art. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching, I appreciate it☺️
Have you done antiquing before? I'd love to see a video on that technique as I have a nativity my mom did that has some pieces that need replacing and they were done with antiquing.
I .have, not sure i have any of the antiquing solution left, basically you paint it on over your painted piece n wipe it off, i'll have to check on that
I love watching your videos. You teach and talk normal. By that I mean you say what has to be said. You show us and you describe what you are doing. You are on our levels us beginners and advanced. I don’t wants to go fast forward. I want to see every stroke put on explained. Thank you for being NORMAL😳😮😢
Hi Jan, the solid colors I apply is my "basecoat" - you only need to cover the bisque with a layer of acrylic paint and you are good to go - with this technique you are basically dry brushing over your basecoat. And your basecoat can be different colors in different areas of the piece, like the face basecoat flesh and hair basecoat brown - hope this makes sense. Not sure what you're asking regarding fashion hues. Thanks for watching!!
Hi - I really am not up on the latest ceramic technique-I no longer have any of the antiquing solution we used to use back in the day. If I remember correctly you paint your piece, let it dry. If you want a heavy antique look apply your solution-for a lighter antiquing result spray your painted piece first then apply the solution. Apply the solution in small areas then wipe it off with a soft cloth, like an old tshirt. Let it dry when finished and then spray to seal. Hope this helps.
Hi Bobbie, I don't' know that there is a rule of thumb per say, I just go by my gut - probably not helpful. If I want a piece to have a darker look and I want my dry brushing to really pop I basecoat black in most of those cases. So for me that would be Halloween, some santas, snowmen, etc. If I want the end product to have a lighter, springtime look I basecoat with a light tan or beige color, usually Easter items, bunnies, chicks, some snowmen. For me I look at a piece and I can envision how I want it to look, at least most of the time, I realize not everyone is like that - so I hope this makes sense and helps you determine your basecoat color. Just remember, the darker the basecoat the more pop you'll get with your dry brushing. Let me know if you have any additional questions, and thanks for watching my video.
Just wondering why you are using it such a small brush for a large surface. Not saying you have to zip through the base coating, but why take longer than you have to. You can do a careful job with a larger brush. Just saying.
Yes you sure can use a larger brush. I often say use the brush you are comfortable with, on this particular day I remember feeling a little shaky so I went with a smaller brush, painter's choice -- thanks for your feedback, and thanks for watching.
Hi Virginia - I'm not sure what you are asking. Can you give me more details - i.e. is it bisque that was not cleaned well? a glazed piece? bisque that was painted and you want to repaint it??
@@paintgirlee I painted a piece had it fired and the eyes bleed and smeared. I have trouble with lining eyes and small places. I think I’m trying to paint ceramic like I do acrylic canvas.
@@virginiadavis24 if you painted greenware and had if fired I'm thinking it was a glazed piece and I don't think there is a fix for that. I paint on ceramic bisque, meaning it has been fired once and does not need to be fired again. You can paint over a bisque piece and correct unwanted areas, even if it's been sprayed you can paint over it. If your piece is shiney (glazed) I have no idea if there is a way to fix it -- there maybe but I would say no. Sorry. Hope this is of some help to you.

Constructive criticism: You were 6:10 into the video before you actually started your tutorial. You really need to get to it within 30 seconds if you want to be competitive. Most of us don't have the time nor the patience to wait or FFW to find where the tutorial truly begins. :-)
Constructive criticism #2: This video is identified as a dry brushing technique - which didn't start until an hour and twelve minutes into a video that was an hour and twenty-one minutes long. Viewers simply will not put up with this. They will find other artists who start the tutorial immediately. Do another video and get right to it. I think you will be amazed at the increase in your traffic. :-)
Maybe you should do your own videos instead of being constructive criticism this constructive criticism that. I found this video really nice very helpful and she achieved what she set out to do. Just some constructive criticism by the way.

You don’t have to base coat? Before painting? Is base coating only for using fashion hues only? Thanks.👍👍

You could just put the paint back in the bottle.
Hi Melissa, that’s not recommended because you run the risk of contaminating your paint. Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it 💕
