Fascinating. I want to try Liu. I wonder if they use the guerlinade base in it. I always smell the clove note in old Guerlans. Jicky, Vol des Nuit, L'heur bleu, I can smell clove in all of them. And Mitsuko is a clove bomb to my nose.

Simply Guerlain always looks back to its heritage. I tried the recent formulations of Vol De Nuit, L'Heure Bleue and Samsara (all in EAU DE PARFUM). They all smell almost the same as the vintage extraits I own. Almost meaning, you can't replicate the beautiful aging of these greate perfumes I've mentioned. But they smell the same. Chanel on the other hand, last 2021 I think, I tried the N5 EDT, a sacrilege. It smells like a cheap detergent powder. It was created alongside the extrait, Chanel at least showed some respect. Never paid attention to the EDT ever since😢

Fingers crossed it is still the same. Guerlain does reformulate perfumes more often than I would like but Liu has been around for almost a hundred years now so I am hopeful that they get it right each time 💖

I am just getting into Guerlain perfumes and never knew about LIU! I do adore my only frangrance I currently have from this house, which is Mon Guerlain Bloom of Rose, and was about to purchase the original version (or intense) but now I think I will purchase LIU instead!
Just please be sure to test it out first before purchasing. This one is not a blind purchase type of fragrance in my opinion. 🌟💖
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 Thank you for that! I know Mon Guerlain is an easy reach .....so different than some of their more nostalgic scents. I appreciate Shalimar and Mitsouko, so I'm trying to open my nose to more of the traditional Guerlain fragrances. I know some of these scents can be more uncomfortable or complex for my novice nose. I really enjoy your videos!

I have been dying to try Liu for years now. I just haven't had the chance. You don't see it in department stores much. Maybe Neiman Marcus would have it? Anyway, I'm a big fan of #5 eau de parfum, so I bet I would love Liu. Did I mention that I love your new haircut?

I don't think such an agreement can be true because in most jurisdictions there are no legal protections for formulas except names of fragrances and their bottle designs. That's why you see dupe websites explicitly saying a fragrance is based on another, because there are no repercussions. Of course we also have fragrances which are copies but don't announce it, like Cloud (Ariana Grande) is a copy of Baccarat Rouge and Legend (Montblanc) is a copy of Fierce (Abercrombie & Fitch), with the addition of a Pomarose (Givaudan captive) and evernyl accord.
This is fascinating! Now I wanna know more and more.
I wonder if you're familiar with Alain Corbin's work, Dacob. He has a fascinating book called The Foul and the Fragrant: Odor and the French Social Imagination, which is not specifically about perfumery, but a delightful book that tells the history of the senses in 19th century France - particularly of smell, of course. There's also Elizabeth de Feydeau (who I think did her Ph.D with Corbin as her advisor, if I'm not mistaken!), but all her texts are in French. (Corbin also co-edited a series of books called History of the Emotions, which is worth checking out.)
Fun fact: years ago I worked at a café and struck up conversation with a client and spent almost an hour talking to her. I told her I was in college majoring in History and found out she studied Sociology and did her Ph.D in France on perfumery (though I can't remember the exact theme of her dissertation)... and her advisor was none other than Elizabeth de Feydeau! Can you imagine? After she finished her Ph.D she came back to Brazil and opened a home fragrances shop with her own creations. I always loved fragrances, but that conversation sparked something in me that made me look at perfumery with fascination and interest. She's the one who introduced me to Corbin's work.
Stupid, stupid fact: the way "Feydeau" is pronounced ik French resembles a lot the Portuguese word "fedor", which means "bad smell". It's fascinating to me how someone with such a name would become a specialist in perfumery, haha.
Anyway, thank you for another great video.
That sounds super fascinating and interesting. I need to look them up. I do, however have a sort of Orson Welles or Kubrick approach to books about perfumes… in fear perhaps of them manipulating the way I sense smell in things. I try hard to maintain my olfactive innocence where possible. It allows me in a way to dream more.
