Of all the dehydrating videos on you tube, mrs. volfies are the best. Informative, to the point, and just the right length in time. PERFECT! I learn so much watching our half acre homestead. I have told several of my friends and family members about these videos and now they subscribe.
I'm doing this EXACT thing tomorrow! I have 15 lbs of organic carrots and I'm dehydrating them all! I've canned organic carrots already so now the dehydrating is ready to begin! With inspiration from you of course!!! I love crock pot stews and soups! There ya go!
Fantastic video! My mother as been farming her entire life and she is 76 years young, however, she is losing enthusiasm to cook soups so I bought a generic food dehydrator to start learning how to store and make easy soups. Thank you for the videos!
We dehydrate almost everything. For storing we put in jars and vacuum seal it. Will last for years. It's the only way to go. I take out what I need and reseal the jar. I love watching your videos, you just make my day every time. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Love and hugs.
One thing I finally learned how to put my vintage ole moulinex that has a chute you put a bowl under, a feeding tube and stuffer that you feed the veggies through the blades and a set of 6 different cutting blades. Chops things like no body's business, because it is electric and like 40 years old. When I first put it together after many years of gathering dust in my bottom cabinets, I didn't have the chute on correctly and wanted to slice paper thin taters. Taters everywhere. Really good tool for slicing and dicing Bev. Bought it at a yard sale 20 years ago for ten bucks. Came with a one speed blender attachment and a little electric grinder.
Another great video ... thank you! After buying my dehydrator, I quickly became addicted and now have 3 9 tray machines. I love dehydrating and with 3 machines, I can dehydrate even MORE!!!!!
Bev, I dehydrated a five lb bag of carrots after blanching them and they did come out brighter in colour than the previous batch I made. I was amazed that it dehydrated down to about 1+1/2 cups. Thank you so much for this information. Next I am going to do a 10 lb bag of onions. Best 2017 to you and Howie and Gracie.
i cant live without my dehydrated veggies . especially the onions n garlic !!! love my other veggies but onions n garlic r my always go to . great video bev . have a great fathers day howie !!
I'm so happy that you are making dehydrating videos. I finally purchased a dehydrator and I'm working along with you in dehydrating things. One thing I learned from watching your videos is that I wasn't putting enough on each tray. lol! For some reason, I thought nothing could be touching. lol! Ugh! Thank you so much for making these videos! ((hugs))
Nice work Mrs V. I am moving more towards dehydrating and lacto fermenting When I am able. We still can for longer term storage but I think dehydrating and fermenting are less work and they still last quite a while. Not sure how long they will actually last as we use them with in several months.... except a crock of jalepenos we've had for about 9 or 10 months. They are still good as well.
Do you use oxygen absorbers or vacuum seal & how long are the carrots good for? I make my own soups & also want to dehydrate some to add to rice. Can they be used for stir fry meals?Thank You for all your hard work & making the videos!
Nancy Coy no I don't use O2 absorbers..I just fill a jar up full and put the lid on tight...if properly dried and kept in a airtight jar..they can last for years...you can use for stir fray if you pour boiling water over the veggies first and then let them hydrate
christine keene put some in a cup or bowl..pour boiling water over it until completely covered by an inch of the water..then allow to plump until normal looking..drain and toss it in your recipe!
Dennis M Hi, I tried buttermilk by pouring it on trays lined with parchment paper cut to fit. I had to be careful and pour slowly to see how much it spreads.
Yes, it worked. I now have powdered buttermilk. After Xmas our local store puts it on sale for half price as it's a day over best before. It's still good as that is only an indicator, not a death knell. Three quarts/litres will last me a year. I used to just toss the cartons in the freezer but then once thawed when needing only a cup meant a baking spree or soon toss it, and that's when I tried dehydrating it. So glad I did.
Why just blanching when you can cook them to tender and then dehydrate them and then you have instant carrots that you only need to put hot water on. So you can have instant meals.

I had a questing about cooking with dehydrated vegetables, how would you or could you use dehydrated vegetables for chicken fried rice?
christine keene put some in a cup or bowl..pour boiling water over it until completely covered by an inch of the water..then allow to plump until normal looking..drain and toss it in your recipe!
Good day! Where in Canada are you? And where did you purchase all those carrots. I have three teens that eat like it's their last day on earth lol
I would like to see a video on dehydrating goats milk to powder milk, if you ever have a chance in your busy schedule.
Dennis M Hi, I tried buttermilk by pouring it on trays lined with parchment paper cut to fit. I had to be careful and pour slowly to see how much it spreads.
was it successful?

Can the carrots touch in the dehydrator?
Ms Wolfie, Why would you blanch carrots if your dehydrating and removing liquid?
Bible Chick Because you want to open up the pores of the vegetable that allows a better dehydration.
How much extra water do you add for 1/4 cup of dehydrated vegetables? Thank you
+Jay Reaser about 3/4 of a cup!
+OurHalfAcreHomestead Thank you so much
Crap, I just dehydrated shredded carrots. I did not blanch ..did I screw up? Crap.
