Watching this great vid 5yrs later n..I’m so grateful to pple lik u that take the time to share ur tips&tricks on doing stuff. Thank u from the bottom of my heart my dear🥰
In this age of PANDEMIC and free food box's, and grocers donating imperfect food stuff, I came along your site I have same dehydrator got at garage sale. Got my cooked taters in right now. Mixed sizes of roots next, just get 'em peeled blanched. Thankyou, thankyou.
Bev it’s a real pleasure to see common sense and intelligence in the instruction of dehydrating various foods, I’ve seen on TH-cam how to dehydrate caned pineapple peaches apples berries fruits all fresh from the can purposed for long food storage . I’m waiting to find on TH-cam somewhere in dehydrating lessons how to you dehydrate water for long-term food storage! Lol thank you Bev I’m definitely subscribing to your channel only makes sense to sents dehydrating my box of Bisquick didn’t work out!lol thanks again Follower from Phoenix Arizona
After watching your videos on dehydrating I invested in an inexpensive Salton last year. It's been a learning process. Living alone it's not easy purchasing fruit as I won't drive 7km to a store for fresh fruit. This Fall I started doing pears, apples and bananas. No more "eat it before it goes bad". I can pick and chose which chips to nibble one. No more tossing fruit. PS, thanks to your carrot video I now have a good winter supply of carrots, turnips and sweet potatoes. without taking up freezer. So good in soups.
That's a great idea. Maybe I can still buy carrots from the farmer's market next weekend. I just finished dehydrating a quart and a pint of crimini mushrooms I bought from the market. Love to have them on hand all winter. I'm a huge fan of dehydrating.
Its amazing how much cheaper it is to dehydrate versus freeze dry. I live in the northern U.S., so when I dehydrate this time of year, I'm getting a room heated for free as well.
Bev when you dehydrate could you reinstitute water to a small portion ( few pieces ) to show us how they re plump up? that would be interesting to see from beginning to end completely!! :-) loving your videos..thanks for sharing your knowledge with us! :-)
thank you for this video, I harvested alot of carrots and was not sure what I was going to do until I saw this - I am dehydrating them right now - much better than frozen. Have a great thanksgiving.
It would have been fun just to eat that one giant carrot as its own special dish! In my view, dehydrated carrots are a lot tastier and more useful in different cooking than canned carrots. Happy carrot eating!
im totally out of carrots as of about 3 week ago . i really need to do this . i feel like i can not cook right without them for a lot of my recipes . great job bev !!!!!
omgoodness this is the 1st dehydrating video of your I watched and I just bought two second hand dehydraters this past weekend. can't wait to hit the farm markets. thanks for sharing.
I have been dehydrating carrots, sweet potatoes and turnip of late. Altho the new fridge with the bottom freezer is nice to use, it's 5cu.ft capacity isn't as good as the chest freezer with same capacity. Our local Walmart, new to groceries, has great prices right now on all the late season crops. Finally can get PEI potatoes.
I just realized it's Thanksgiving in Canada tomorrow so I wanted to wish you a happy one! Your family is so lucky to be at your table on a feast day! Great video, too -- wow, some of those carrots are like tree stumps! :)
Great video! I have one of those choppers and never thought to use it for dehydrating prep work! Btw, I also have one of those simple egg slicers that I have used to slice softer foods like bananas, mushrooms and strawberries for dehydrating. Works fast and makes even, approx 1/4 slices perfect for dehydrating...just wanted to share that tip if you haven’t heard of that. Thanks again for your vid!
I wondered why I kept coming back to your videos (even though they're very informative I'm not really a canner kind of person). It just dawned on me. You remind me of my mother when she was alive, in looks and nature and I remember helping to prepare loads of her home grown vegetables for blanching and freezing (we were not in a country where canning supplies were available at all). So I will definitely be back - hope that's not too creepy.
i love your video's followed you for years it might be helpful for you drain vegetable with out burning your self i fill my stock pot then i put the vegetables in steamer insert so when need drain you just remove the basket i also sterilize my jars this way . all best downunder
Wish I could find those kind of deals here! Which reminds me, I need to dig my carrots! One of the things I love most about dehydrating is the space it saves. Your wonderful new pantry is filling up nicely. Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
Do you not put them in cold water to stop the cooking process? I always thought we had to. We all have our own way of doing things so was just wondering. We just did 18 more quarts of dehydrated corn. I'll be making cornbread for years to come. One of our friends just gave us 4 big boxes of corn on the cob, so we had to do something with it. Way overkill for us but we don't waste food around here.
Is there anything you don't know how to do it? I wish I had a sister like you. You are an inspiration to do stuff most people wouldn't even try or want to find out. Thank you for your knowledge, your time and willingness to share :-) Much appreciated. I can't wait to can grow some vegetables. There is so much snow right now (it's cold) it seems it won't disappear till August!
Did I miss something or should one put the carrot pieces in iced water after blanching.? Love your dehydrating videos and always save them on my Pinterest board.
Hi Bev I have been watching your videos for a long and I have learned so much from you. Also I always wonder if I am the only 13 year old girl who watches your videos, because now days teens are all caught up in social media and violence. So thank you for preparing me in the future.
Oops..I just prepared carrots for the dehydrator today (my first time) and I boiled them for 3 minutes. Hope they’ll be ok. I’m still going to dehydrate them. I’m almost 77 and still learning lots of things in life…we never stop learning!!! Wish me luck!!! How is Howie doing? 💕🌸💕
Man, I don't know where you bought those. I've never seen carrots that big. Those carrots would last a long time for me. I bet yams and sweet potatoes could be done the same way.
You said they are "deer carrots" what are these? Where can I find them? I love carrots! I would love carrots like that. And thank you for doing this video!
I had someone give me a gallon can of carrots. I wonder if I could dehydrate them after I open them? there is only so much you can do in the time they could go bad. My husband doesn't like cooked carrots unless they are in soups, and I don't want to make that big of a batch. LoL
Oh my, so maybe a fourth cup of these dehydrated carrots at meal time? I guess one would get the hang of not over doing it when cooking the carrots once they have been dehydrated :)
I just want to clarify something plz Bev... when you say its been 24hrs..... do you mean its been a solid 24hrs time frame ? or do you mean it like.... its been 24hrs ( the next morning ) .... just wondered because you said you left it on over night
I don't know WHERE you got those foot long (and ahem! super hung) carrot roots from, but those people should grow those huge matriarchs and just make seeds and get thhem into the heirloom and preppie seed banks!!!!
here in michigan we have those ginormous bags of deer carrots , beets and apples just about every where . they might not be perfect but so cheep and they taste great . so worth buying them if anyone comes across them . they have so many other uses other than to put out for hunting . everyone have a great day !!!
hi follow you a lot and I have the same dehydrator as you but I can not find the mesh liners could you tell me where you got yours and hope they have a store in Ohio
+Juanita Berk I have a Presto dehydrator and just got the mesh liners at WalMart. The ones I got look just like the ones Mrs. Volfie is using. They were about $5 each.
You are definitely more woman than me! Maybe 20years ago I could have done this but not now. You are a very hard worker and strong.

Thanks for this and thanks for the upturned funnel trick over the center hole of the dehydrator!!!

im totally out of carrots as of about 3 week ago . i really need to do this . i feel like i can not cook right without them for a lot of my recipes . great job bev !!!!!
Often what I do with extra large carrots is peel the sides off to use. The root often is more tough and the flavor isn't as good. great video.
omgoodness this is the 1st dehydrating video of your I watched and I just bought two second hand dehydraters this past weekend. can't wait to hit the farm markets. thanks for sharing.
What a great deal! Good for you! I always thought carrots had to be shredded to dehydrate. Now I know different. Thanks Bev!
I love that your vids are quick and to the point. Thanks!!

Noahs Ark.. about how large do dehydrated carrots get after cooking? Do you put your blanched carrots in cold water before dehydrating? Thanks

Aw, man, I just love you ... and your videos! I'm older than dirt, and leaning so much from you!
lol Thanks Honey!
Bev, I have to find carrots like this. I have no idea why we need picture-perfect vegetables.
Mrs. V....I truely enjoy your videos! Thanks so much for the lessons. Just getting into using my dehydrator. Having fun thanks to you.

Family... Can you reuse the water for the next batch of carrots? Also, do the dehydrated veggies increase in size when cooked? Thanks
Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you all have a Blessed day
I did the carrots as you did in video , thank you so much, it has really helped with space savings. God Bless :-)

Tnx for sharing! I love youre videos. All the best from Norway.
+rutten69 My Pleasure!!!
I made my own mesh liners from the plastic needlepoint sheet you can get at the craft store!..much cheaper than buying them online...LOL
You will have chemicals getting into your food using them as they aren't good grade
Thank you for that idea, I was thinking about buying some
Doris Mair parchment paper works, too
Doris Mair I did the same😊
I did that too and have had no problems at all.
How is Winkle fitting in with the other goats?

YOUR A REALLY SMART YOUNG LADY
how do you know how many carrots you need for the year? You always teach so much thankyou
Do you have to vacuum seal the jar for the carrots to keep or are you just putting a lid on them and sitting on shelf?
Happy Thanksgiving!
I am new to dehydrating could you tell me if they are kind of chewy rehydrated or not?
Thanks for sharing. God bless you.
Bev, do you not put them in ice water before they go into the dehydrator?
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing Bev:)
wow does save a lot of space.. Hope you getting some rest somewhere with all this baking, canning and de-hydrating.
LOL, well if oddly shaped carrots is what qualifies them as deer carrots, then I guess I have a whole crop of deer carrots!
Hi can the air distribute properly with parchment paper thank you.
I make a slit here and there in mine, seems to help with time.

Hello. I've been watching your dehydrating videos and would like to know about how much veggies do you add in soups or casseroles .

Have a very Happy Thanksgiving! question, are deer carrots called that just because of the size and shape?
How would I use these to cook with?
Ty I had to come back for info. U r the best. Tc
thank you honey
how long will the carrots stay good in the jar?
I had some metal screen for the windows left over .... i cut the perfectly to fit in my trays... thought of this one year while drying wild blueberry.
Aaron Monette great idea Xx
nylon mesh might be better in the long run,,,metal screen could rust over time,,then again it might be just fine
DO THEY HAVE TO BE PEELED???
WHERE do you get "deer carrots"?
Is it necessary to boil them first?
Just found you! ♥️ We call those horse carrots.
You said they are "deer carrots" what are these? Where can I find them? I love carrots! I would love carrots like that.
And thank you for doing this video!
deer carrots are what hunters put out as bait for deer hunting season to draw them in .
Love this idea!
How do you rehydrate them? And how do you know how many to rehydrate for a dish, such as a soup?
Half a cup of veg to one cup boiling water...when it comes to soup..I make a stock and throw in 1/2 cup of each veg for every two people.
Thanks a bunch 💗💗💗 you’re lovely 😊
❤️u Mrs. Volfie!
Laugh of the day: five pounds of carrot coins dehydrate down to 1+3/4 cups storage. Who'd'a thunk it!
