2 weeks ago i didnt even know there were different types of tobacco for pipe, today im halfway of becoming an expert thanks to videos like this, cheers
Thank You Russ being new i enjoy your videos knowing the in's and out's of tobacco and the origin and process of what we put in out pipes.really well explained.Good man Russ.
Dear Russ just an add up of sort to the latakia oriental breed its actually bint al sheikh (daughter of the elder man/respected old man) they use it in their local cigarette but i never seen it loosely for pipe or blending. Its been few years since i have been there though so not sure if they still make it locally. Your efforts and informational videos are always greatly appreciated i thoroughly enjoy them and love your blends. Kindest regards Al janabi
Hello Al Janabi, are you able to advise a good Latakia / Oriental Balkan blend ? I’ve been smoking Quiet Nights but haven’t venture away from it just yet. Shukran 🙏🏼
@@Rurik8118 although i am not a big fan of latakia now but i do crave it every so often. I would recommend dan bill bailys balakn/peterson early morning/samwell gawith squadron leader for a light english. Heavy english blends however i would recommend ashton artisan blend/ peterson night cap/peterson old dublin/c&d bayou night. Just to name few, hopefully that help
im from north lebanon. after showing my father this video, he said oh thats (hamwe maan thats strong tobacco) we call it hamwe in north lebanon, which means hot but can be translated to (strong) for tobacco.
Hearth and Home Black House is wonderful to smoke. It has a hint of Perique. For me, the Latakia and Perique smells like Smoked Paprika. Wonderful flavor
When I started smoking pipes 30 years ago I started on Latakia flake but for the life of me I have no idea who the manufacturer was. Maybe McClelland? It was very dark black and heavy Latakia. There was also a Perique flake that was available. Any ideas who produced this back in the 80's?
I love this tobacco! In news reports about Syria, I hear correspondents pronounce the word as " lah-tah-keeah. " But in the pipe world it seems to be " lata-kia ". Does it come down to preference?
i am from lattakia . and the correct pronunciation is more like how it has been mentioned in the video from the original name . but we normally say it in local language like this , al-Lādhiqīyah .
+STRAIGHTREXXED Latakia blends are a good choice for new pipe smokers as they tend to burn slow and cool. You’re much less likely to burn your tongue with these kinds of blends. Just avoid the really light ones because they contain a lot more Virginia tobaccos which can burn hot.

May we know which is the best Latakia brand according to you ? Dunhill night cap.
Star of the East Flake is where i get my latakia fix.
Apa saya bisa mendapatkan nya untuk ke indonesia
Can you suggest a sweet latakia based blend?
First time I tasted this it was like smoking a 40 Inch mud bogger tire.😂
Great
Has Syrian Latakia started production again?
No unfortunately. As the war is still ongoing, I guess it will take a long time for production to restart.

so if I'm a beginner is this what you would recommend?

Take a blend like Dunhill Standard Mixture and mix with some vanilla tobacco and you'll get such a nice ballanced smoke ;)
What pipe is that at 2:36?

I don't find Latakia tastes very smokey, sure it smells smokey but the taste is more woody, leathery, even fruity
Cream of leather soup is my best description
Surely it would be pronounced: la TAH ki a.
just beautiful fact that latakia has the oldest alphabet and first music note in the world
