If you look at her resume, she is actually not a diversity hire. However, this is a perfect example of how DEI has really had a negative impact on things. A woman gets hired and immediately everyone jumps to diversity hire. You cant blame them, we have seen this over and over, supposed "victims" given positions they didn't earn and n some cases are unqualified for. People are wrong for jumping to the conclusion because she has some serious credentials, but they are right for jumping to the conclusion because we have seen the virtue signaling so many times, its what people expect.
Because of DEI, now anytime any person from one of these groups gets a job, whether its deserved or not, people will assume ithey only got it because of politics. Great job left wingers, people told you this was going to happen and low and behold it has. When you start giving people jobs, promotions, bonuses, acceptance to schools etc, based on their sex or skin color or orientation and then parade them around like a show horse, to let everyone know how "progressive" you are, we end up here.
One of my very close friends is a Jamaican dude, I helped him get a job at my work. He recently got promoted to the same dept I work in and because of the impact the constant DEI hires we see everywhere, he is constantly plagued by feelings that he didnt earn the job he was only given it because of his skin color. Everyone has told him over and over he is a great artist and he deserves to be where he is, but he wont believe it. He thinks the bosses only gave him the job cuz hes black.

Excellent take and I agree 100%. However, I too think this is almost a diversity hire. I'm not saying she's not qualified to get the job, not at all, but you're going to tell me she derserves that job more so than say a Jay Woodcroft, who has vastly more experience than her, or a Dave Manson? Other side of the coin here is that certainly women have not been afforded the opportunity to do things in this sport, or any mens sport, that men have and the list is 100's of names long of men who would be a more 'experienced' hire than she would be. Also, now the problem arises on whether or not you need to fire her? If you do, there will be left wing group that hollers that she was fired because of her gender, not her performance. Should be interesting how this plays out. I'm not against the hiring btw - far from it. I think it's great! But her qualifications IMO do no match the position, not at all. It's a publicity stunt that I hope turns out really well for her and opens the door for other women to coach but whom are more qualified.

  • @scribbler60

Give her two years on the job first before avalanching her with accolades.
Some media outlets tried that with Kate Madigan of the NJ Devils.
Devils finished second from the bottom in the Metropolitan division. All due to Madigan? No. But she, like all in the organizing, must shoulder some of the blame.
Will Campbell be able to handle the task? Perhaps. Perhaps not. Give her a couple of years in the role first without pre-judging her in any way.
