@@zerothepanda02 It's determined by what spaces they land on. Same type of space -> Free-For-All. One red and rest blue(colors can be flipped) -> 1v3. Two red, two blue -> 2v2. Green spaces flip to red or blue. If you're the one who lands on the red space and everyone else lands on a blue, it'll be you versus everyone else. Essentially you'll be on a team with whoever also landed on your color space as in a 2v2 you'll be put with whoever also landed on your space color. You can see this happen in real-time right as the mini-game starts. Everyone's avatar and color space appears and it sorts out the type of game. 17:55 has a good example with a green thrown in.
More simply: it's reds vs blues, with greens assigned randomly. If everyone's on the same team it's 4-player, otherwise 1v3 or 2v2.

They should have tried to land on more VS and Chance Time spaces. Maybe even move Toadette to Boo's side so that the CPUs can have more reason to steal stars from each other.
@@Starstryker Then the playing field is equalized, and provided they stay on that side of the map, whoever rolls the biggest gets to steal Arin's Star next, and potentially get more stars if it moves there.
But seeing how the CPUs work, I'd be surprised if they stayed on that island. They're probably gonna pay money to switch sides at the top. The only way they won't is if a swap happens before they can get there.
most of the times Dan asks the dice in this game or on Monopoly for a specific number he ends up getting that number, it's so nice to see, he's really lucky. I'm sure it happened enough times to make a little montage out of it

I gotta say I always root for Dan. He's the underdog. But he stresses me out. I haven't watched this one yet, but I'm pretty sure I know how he's playing.
I do get frustrated more often than not. Like, his mindset here is "I'm going to intentionally lose every time" when it should be "I'm going to try to beat Arin and his CPU teammate while not beating my teammate." I think he came to this conclusion toward the end of the last one, but forgot.
So if Dan reads this, I'm rooting for you and if you guys do this again I hope you switch up your playstyle.
Also, I think you should do Normal. That way, the CPU isn't extremely stupid, but likely would have lost if you guys were trying to actually win and you can more heavily influence the outcomes.
Have you SEEN this man play monopoly? He is NOT the underdog. But I absolutely agree and always root for Dan. Though it is wildly entertaining when arin wins

I will say the NPCs in this game seem to have FAR more self awareness than the Mario Party 2 CPUs, who actually had brains made of room-tempurature pudding

I feel like this is my favourite current Game Grumps rotation of games in a while between Mario Party and Zelda. They're both so silly and i like how in one it's fun to see them both find out new things about hyrule, and in the other it's just big sillies.

Yes!! Arin was absolutely -shit faced- HYDRATED too! I don't remember the episode, but I remember it was the third playthrough they had recorded due to losing the first one where Dan finally won. So my best guess is that it's their second playthrough of it on the channel

It's always funny how hand-holdy and easy Nintendo and Mario games are. Even on a hard difficulty, even with the fullest intention of losing, they'll STILL somehow let you win.

much as I love this version of mario party, there are better games to play with these types of mechanics from.
Mario Party 3, for example, has like 30 different kinds of items, and spaces like boo spots allow you to exchange stars between NPCs.
Actually for some minigames like Memory Madness, even hard mode CPUs are programmed to get at least two items wrong.
Man I just got an add for Noodles and the voice over guy sounded exactly like Dan so I thought it was still the episode.
