I was torn between the GPS model and GPS+Celluar. The extra monthly expense and the price jump isn't worth it for my needs. My phone will always be on me. I see no need to intentionally leave my phone behind only to be limited to the capabilities of the watch. I just bought the GPS model today and couldn't be happier.

I’ve decided that the Series 7 is going to be my first Apple Watch, to go with my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I wasn’t going to seriously consider the cellular option. But your video, and some others, are making me think it’s worth it.
I am deciding whether I should buy the series 7 or the SE, considering that the cellular is only 50€ for the SE (100€ on the series7) but talking about the cellular, I don’t see the point in having an Apple Watch that can’t do anything without being a few meters away from your phone. And apparently Spotify and other apps work on cellular now
Good video. I’ve been using a series 5 with cellular for about 6 months. I was really looking forward to leaving my phone behind, especially when I’m out exercising and don’t have pockets. While the AW does work to replace many of the phone’s cellular based features, I found that there are just too many times I need my phone for other things - such as taking a picture - for me to feel comfortable leaving it behind. I have the series 5 with cellular and the only reason I got it is because I took a trip pre-covid and ended up with a rental car that did not have bluetooth so navigating was difficult. I am also a runner and I don’t like carrying my phone with me because it’s just dead weight. Last week I was on a run in a new neighborhood, missed a turn on my planned route, and was able to pull up the maps app, see how far off course I was, and figure out the most direct way back to my car. Definitely enjoying the watch with cellular.

At the risk of sounding like a helicopter parent, another great use of Cellular is for locating and communicating with kids. Just gifted an Apple Watch SE to my son and can now find his location as he bike rides around the neighborhood. Also can setup notifications when he leaves a geofenced radius from our home. Family Setup allows Apps and Contacts to be restricted and parents can text, call, or walkie talkie kids to return home at sunset. A kid friendly digital leash!
That’s definitely not being a “helicopter parent”! We live in a messed up world so as parents being able to keep in touch with the kids when they’re out is super important, and it’s a bonus if they were to need you in an emergency and don’t know how to explain where they are, you can locate them yourself through the watch! It’s a cool gadget for more peace of mind I’d say!
I didn't get the cell option on my first couple watches but once I switched to cellular I love the options of going phone less :) Taking calls on the watch makes me feel like Penny from Inspector Gadget lol can't wait for video calls on the watch one day!
Thanks Craig, My decision to get celular is a YES as a result of your video. The one thing you can add especially for women is that we dont have to take the phone out of our purse just to see who or what it is especially if its not important. I just got the 13 pro max and I love it for video and the camera but it is safer in my purse. I can lock my phone up in a locker at work and just use watch. Thanks again.
In Romania we have this service on one operator: it’s called “number share”. That means, for example, that you can use your watch cellular as a phone even you forgot your phone at home. Number share option in Romania costs 2 euro/month, it can be attached on almost all cellular plan on Orange. It doesn’t work in roaming.
@harvey Jones, Yes, you absolutely can as long as your phone is within range. I have an apple watch series 3 gps that still works great and I used it for calls and texts all the time. It came in handy when I didn't want to pull out my phone.
I first bought an Apple Watch Series 4, a few weeks before the Series 5 came out and I was having this very debate on cellular or no. With tryingt to work out and wanting to still be in touch. The only thing that made me go non cellular, was the fact that my carrier. Boost Mobile didn't support the service at that time....
Two questions half a year later (for Craig & anyone else)... How often do you go without your phone? And have you noticed you're more likely to go without your phone now that you have a cellular watch? The geek in me wants a cellular watch (tablet too)... But I almost never go out without my phone. I probably pull my phone out less when I'm wearing my watch, sure... But I don't know if I'd want to go totally without it. Would that likely change much if the watch could get online itself or would I likely always have the phone on me anyway?
Sounds crazy but I’ve had a series 5 cellular for almost 2 years……I’ve come to realize I am rarely ever without my phone and most times I’ve had to find my phone while using my watch to talk because of the connection! Also it’s so hard to text on the Watch….speech to text is even worst because Siri does not recognize any Hawaiian names 😆 so again I would have to find my phone to text easier!
That’s an interesting idea I would think so the band is just an accessory to help it stay on your wrist. You could get a band and just loop it on to the backpack
As someone who’s partially disabled and has to walk with a cane, I can’t walk and talk on my iPhone at the same time. So it’s a great help for my situation. Also, when I go to the store, I don’t like having the iPhone on my pocket. In my condition, it’s easier to have my shopping list on my wrist and be able to take calls without having something extra to carry around.
Thank you for your interesting video but I would like to know if I can make phone calls using my Bluetooth headphones which’s connected to the watch and not using the mic of the watch?
I heeded your recommendations from this video, and I’m really happy that I did! I hadn’t really considered getting a cellular-equipped Apple Watch, especially given the price difference, but after watching this video, I looked on Amazon to see if I could at least find one that would be shipped for free. Not only did I find one with free shipping, but there was a “coupon” that brought the price of the cellular version down to the [regular] price of the GPS-only version. I was sold, so thank you for making this video!
Tbh, you can do absolutely all those things on the non-cellular one, having then phone on the same network (this or BT just goes over reinforced concrete walls like butter..). I never leave my phone home, and having notifications on my watch is in no way less distracting 🤷♂️ apart from doing all that on the non-cellular, battery will basically drain away while on cellular. Maybe useful for some, I see no use for it. You still have gps, you can add music and listen to it on a run. Thanks for the video though and enjoy your cellular watch 👌
Hello Joshua, glad that the video gave you a different perspective. I think there are different options people don’t think of. I tried to show the uses and let facts and features speaker for themselves. Thank you for watching. Now latit das, who is paying me? You got it figured out. Is it Apple paying me to sell more expensive watches? Is it the cell carriers who have come together to get more cell plan sold? Apple doesn’t pay TH-camrs and the cell carriers can’t agree on anything. I would step back and flush out the logic of your accusation before dropping them. You clearly did not think this comment all the way through. But thanks for your comment and the engagement. You have helped spread the video further.
Thank you for this review. I just ordered the series 6 today with cellular. My question is how does the cellular work with my iPhone? Can it be setup to receive messages and phone calls from the iPhone even though it has its own cellular number? Thanks.
You are welcome. I hope you enjoy it. The way it works is that it will be connected to your cell phone number. You don’t get a new number for the watch. When you’re away from your phone the cellular will kick in and any notifications, text or calls will come through on the watch cellular. When you are with your phone, they stay connected with Bluetooth or WiFi. You turn on the watch cellular within the watch app on the phone. If you find your not using it, you can turn off cellular in the app.
You pay for another cellular line that is being used. Answering to the same number doesn’t change two different cellular connections are happening. That requires two unique device identifiers or you could not two the two individually.
I purchased the cellular - helps when your getting your cracked phone fixed. Your still connected while that is being done and you can go out on the lake (not ocean) and not worry about damage.
Hi sir , Did You check(Used Apple Watch) this option where your iphone is in One Place and watch in another Place with Cellular enabled .. I Have a Doubt on this as how it Works
Thanks, Craig for your review of cellular. I appreciate the advantages and convenience of being connected by not having to carry a phone-mainly for me when I work out. However, the additional costs seems excessive-to think that my cell company is charging me to have cellular on my watch when I already am paying them for my phone-that's a deal breaker-the other issue for me is not wanting to be really connected so much-I want to get away from everything at times, and don't want to be so available, to talk, text, or email. :). Thanks again!

Also: safety features for women walking or jogging alone, emergency 911 features, or a quick help for an older person who has perhaps fallen or had a mishap. Curious what the difference in battery life is between the GPS versus cellular versions.
Congratulations. You have to have Bluetooth turned on for both to utilize most of your apps. There are some apple apps that will continue to work over Wi-Fi and cellular, without communication needed to your phone.
That is great Julie. Glad to hear that you have enjoyed your watch that much. I wouldn’t go back to non cellular. It’s a great backup phone too if your phone dies.

Love, love, love my Apple watch and have always opted for cellular!! Countless times I've forgotten my phone but have had my watch along so it was no big deal...
This is great, totally new information to me. The one thing where you have to take your phone with you is, if you want to take pictures, that is during hiking. Other then that, you can totally leave your phone at home and do your hiking activity. For local stroll or going to the mall, the cellular watch will do perfect though.
This was a great review always puts me in a better mood knowing that I will be making the right decision, but personally I think I’m gonna go without cellular as I can’t really imagine not taking my phone anywhere so I’m really gonna be connected to my phone most of the time therefore it wouldn’t really make sense to add cellular 😅
The watch has very limited reception compared to iPhone. In clear areas it won’t have any issues but if you go in a basement or other underground area it’ll lose data connection. You may get cell service or be able to send texts but Siri won’t function.
A year late to comment but I have to say, he nailed it. I skipped on the apple watch all these years thinking I didn’t need another tool that will enslave me more by technology and social media. Finally got the series 7 and my phone barely leaves my room and I get to focus on other things that matter.
Are you able to cut the Cellular connection off or do you have to leave it on always?….Thinking I could save some battery life when not having to use it because I have the phone…Would like to have the option to cellular usage when I need it though and leave the phone home or on a charger.
@@davidhaysbuckley Agreed!!! I purchased a cellular version just for that. I didn’t want a bad day in the future where I needed emergency services and couldn’t reach a phone and wished I hadn’t cheaped out.

Still rocking my Apple Watch Series 5 Nike Cellular and LOVE it. 😎 The convenience of not having to bring my iPhone with me when I go to the gym...or go relax and go fishing...I truly love the idea of having so much music and everything else all in this watch almost makes it feel futuristic...Apple pay is pretty awesome as well. I do not see the point in buying the newer version at all and I should get another 2 to 3 years out of this watch before I once again upgrade...for now I still love the series 5 Nike. :)
I love my Apple Watch with cellular. It’s great to leave my phone at home or in my handbag and still get my calls, texts, emails and notifications without having to use or find my phone.

Thank you both for watching and the help with an answer Rebel_Man
Thanks Craig, My decision to get celular is a YES as a result of your video. The one thing you can add especially for women is that we dont have to take the phone out of our purse just to see who or what it is especially if its not important.
I just got the 13 pro max and I love it for video and the camera but it is safer in my purse. I can lock my phone up in a locker at work and just use watch. Thanks again.
I wish there was a smartwatch where I don't need a phone to set it up.
I have chronic hypotension and I’m a fall risk. If I faint the watch will call 911 and give them my location. That is why I want a cellular watch
Stay safe
Don’t get in an argument are cheer while watching a sporting event, the app will think you have fallen and ask you if you need help, real talk!!!
Do i have to pay for extra line or it just syncs with my phone even if that’s off?
In Romania we have this service on one operator: it’s called “number share”. That means, for example, that you can use your watch cellular as a phone even you forgot your phone at home. Number share option in Romania costs 2 euro/month, it can be attached on almost all cellular plan on Orange. It doesn’t work in roaming.
@@achimnicu that’s nice for Romanians. That guy said we need entire new line in USA which equals to 1200$ a year.
One important feature that cellular watch provides is calling for emergency service if you hurt yourself in remote locations
Facts 💯🙂🏆❤️ Keep hearing how the watches save people’s lives.
that's the ONE reason I got the Apple watch ,I suffer from sudden cardiac arrest , great way to call if I have a problem
If your watch is gps and connected to the phone, can you still do messages and phone calls on the watch?(like how you can on an iPad with a phone)
@harvey Jones, Yes, you absolutely can as long as your phone is within range. I have an apple watch series 3 gps that still works great and I used it for calls and texts all the time. It came in handy when I didn't want to pull out my phone.
I’m a senior with physical limitations. I got the cellular version for medical emergencies. It’s a lot cheaper than single use devices.
Me too.
Best if mobile networks can offer two SIM (or eSIM) under the same account.
Which one are you wearing
Hanes
The one feature that you didn’t talk to is emergency calling and fall detection. That’s why I won’t go without cellular on my apple watch.
Does your phone and the watch have the same number? As in if someone calls your phone number, do they both ring?
Yes, it’s the same.
For people that switch between ios and android a lot . what ios features can you still use on the watch while having the sim in a android ?
I got cellular because i find myself in situations where i either forget to charge my phone or i hit low battery while im out. So its a good back up
Does the watch have to be on the same carrier as your iphone?
Do Apple watches work without their wrist bands attached? I'm thinking about getting one as a secondary phone to velcro to my backpack.
I do... I bought one specifically to separate me from the phone when on my motorcycle & bicycle & store /shopping trips... it / they kick-ass
Very cool. That is the value I see. Being able to leave the phone but still have communication.
Can you share the cellular with other devices? like tethering a kindle for example?
I heeded your recommendations from this video, and I’m really happy that I did! I hadn’t really considered getting a cellular-equipped Apple Watch, especially given the price difference, but after watching this video, I looked on Amazon to see if I could at least find one that would be shipped for free. Not only did I find one with free shipping, but there was a “coupon” that brought the price of the cellular version down to the [regular] price of the GPS-only version. I was sold, so thank you for making this video!
क्या आईफोन स्वीचऑफ रहने पर ऐपल वॉच में कॉल आ सकती है.?
i got the cellular version to future proof it, and to use it while traveling abroad, it would be super useful for so many things while travelling.
I read something about the cellular not working outside of your country so check into that first.
@@annie9855 But if you had to call emergency services doesn’t it work in other countries just for that.
Thanks for the video though and enjoy your cellular watch 👌
also thought cellular on apple watch would not do a lot but this just changed my perspective wow
He has been paid to change your perspectives
@@lalitdas6145 what he said are facts tho, i guess it worked
Can you use Spotify on the Apple Watch? Thanks
Thanks for the video! Really helpful. Made me decide I don’t really need a cellular Apple Watch.
That is great to hear. Save the money.
@@CraigsTechTalk Update: I got the cellular version haha 😂 realized it would be nice to get rid of my phone when I’m cycling and at the gym
Very cool. Hope you enjoy it.
@@CraigsTechTalk Hello. If its just using the same phone number then why do you have to pay service? like for what?
You pay for another cellular line that is being used. Answering to the same number doesn’t change two different cellular connections are happening. That requires two unique device identifiers or you could not two the two individually.
I purchased the cellular - helps when your getting your cracked phone fixed. Your still connected while that is being done and you can go out on the lake (not ocean) and not worry about damage.
Would it still work when your phone is off ???
Heyy this happened to me as well😂
@@jizxhd2699 Yes, it still works. Kinda duplicate Phone Service
Wait so if you get the cellular Apple Watch do you have to pay for the data for that AND your phone?
Yup
@@myv6mustang screw that im getting the gps one
Great video, thanks. You helped me decide on the GPS only version.
Use Do Not Disturb on your watch, problem solved
@@Koji-888 it's literally a swipe and a tap, and it's literally 100% the same as not having the device. Especially if you tap the airplane mode button located on the same screen.
How did you get your?
How much does it cost to get cellular data?
Does it cost more a month or just pay 1 time?
Also: safety features for women walking or jogging alone, emergency 911 features, or a quick help for an older person who has perhaps fallen or had a mishap. Curious what the difference in battery life is between the GPS versus cellular versions.
GPS is obviously much better as it doesnt keep searching for a signal.
@@ExplorerOfTheGalaxyAs long as it is in bluetooth range to the phone it shouldn’t search for signal I think.
@@_icscata_ It shouldn't, but it's a tracking device. So it does track you from every other minute. NSA thanks you.
First time Apple Watch user here. Just got the ultra and my question is do I have to have Bluetooth and wifi turned on now on my iPhone?
Congratulations. You have to have Bluetooth turned on for both to utilize most of your apps. There are some apple apps that will continue to work over Wi-Fi and cellular, without communication needed to your phone.
Hi, love my Apple Watch and use it constantly. Changed to a cellular Apple Watch last year and wouldn’t go back to non cellular. Love it.
That is great Julie. Glad to hear that you have enjoyed your watch that much. I wouldn’t go back to non cellular. It’s a great backup phone too if your phone dies.
Can you still somehow listen to music via tha apple watch without having apple music subscription?
Or is there any way to download offline music that I could listen in the gym?
@@adarshanand5928 you can load songs on the watch, but the available songs are loaded from your phone’s song inventory. According to comments you can now stream Spotify as well.
@@velenacruz8630 Thanks Mate. I understood.
I bought an Apple Watch used recently and I have the cellular on it but someone told me you cannot walk away from your iPhone or it shows it has been disconnected and when I get back to my iPhone I start receiving messages again I can make phone calls on my watch, etc. maybe I’m doing something wrong
Love, love, love my Apple watch and have always opted for cellular!! Countless times I've forgotten my phone but have had my watch along so it was no big deal...
Is Strava available on cellular?
This is great, totally new information to me. The one thing where you have to take your phone with you is, if you want to take pictures, that is during hiking. Other then that, you can totally leave your phone at home and do your hiking activity. For local stroll or going to the mall, the cellular watch will do perfect though.
you have to pay monthly?
This was a great review always puts me in a better mood knowing that I will be making the right decision, but personally I think I’m gonna go without cellular as I can’t really imagine not taking my phone anywhere so I’m really gonna be connected to my phone most of the time therefore it wouldn’t really make sense to add cellular 😅
Can I use the same number (SIM) both on my iPhone & Apple Watch simultaneously?
Yes you can... The cellular version will just use the e-SIM version of your phone number
Going back and forth this morning if I should exchange my Apple Watch SE GPS to cellular, I guess the answer is YES! Thanks!
An update would be nice :)
I Change my buy from SE to celular, after I found Out my O2 cel company dont Charge extra cost for IT! Have to wait 3 Weeks for my Apple watch!!
Ok so I just want to know if you have cellular on you’re IPHONE then can you connect the phone to the Apple Watch to use the cellular from the phone?
Great Video Craig! I am thinking of getting a cellular one, just amazes me what that little tiny thing can do.
How does the antenna on the Watch compare to the iPhone. Is the reception for making and receiving calls just as good?? TIA
Do you have to activate cellular service if you have the cellular model?
No
No. And you can call emergency services anyway!
@@davidhaysbuckley Agreed!!! I purchased a cellular version just for that. I didn’t want a bad day in the future where I needed emergency services and couldn’t reach a phone and wished I hadn’t cheaped out.
Can you still somehow listen to music via tha apple watch without having apple music subscription?

You can download a playlist to your Apple Watch. It’s a bit tricky to do but it can be done allowing you to leave your phone at home
@@nowcity145 But can I download song to my Apple watch even if I don't have apple music subscribe?
Can I instead buy songs from iTunes?
Great video, convinced me that gps only is just fine for me
Thank you. Perfect, glad it helped save you some money. I want these videos to help. Enjoy your new watch.
Will it connect to car Multimedia system with the help of bluetooth?
I’m treating myself for my Bday 🥳 like how you simplified the good usage ... Appreciate!
Thank you very much. Happy Birthday. Hope you enjoy the new watch.
I bought myself to the SE Apple Watch for my birthday in February!
I did the same for my bday this month! Def glad I did. 🥳
I’m currently trying to decide whether to buy an Apple Watch and which one to buy as far as model, size and the gps cellular issue. Is cellular something you have to have to for it to be worth all the money or is a gps one good for the price?
GPS is good for most people. I did a video on what you gain from cellular. But you don’t need it to enjoy the watch.
“My daughters fart sounds” yeah ok we believe you 👀😂
Can you do all these with your iphone in the pocket?
Thanks for the video… I was hesitant to go for a GPS only watch, now I’m confident 😁
Now I know fo sure that I definitely do not need the GSM connectivity
What’s the gsm?
Hi Craig which version and what size face is the one on your wrist in this video?
I rarely use my phone that much anymore I just do TH-cam and social media while I’m at home when I’m outside I just check for texts or calls gps is the best one for me in my opinion

@@ducktapelover15 yes! As long as your iPhone is near you it works lol

Just a note, you can actually download music from Spotify on Apple Watch
Question: I don't get cell phone service in my class room. Does this have an airplane mode feature, like my iPhone, to save battery and searching? I'm considering getting an Apple watch to replace my FitBit. Thank you for the help.
Yes. The Apple Watch does have an airplane mode. It is in the control center similar to an iphones control center.
Your wife is a very patient woman.
In cellular, what will be the battery backup?
Series 4 and up battery is no issue. If you are listening to music for a long period of time then that can drain the battery.
Still rocking my Apple Watch Series 5 Nike Cellular and LOVE it. 😎
The convenience of not having to bring my iPhone with me when I go to the gym...or go relax and go fishing...I truly love the idea of having so much music and everything else all in this watch almost makes it feel futuristic...Apple pay is pretty awesome as well.
I do not see the point in buying the newer version at all and I should get another 2 to 3 years out of this watch before I once again upgrade...for now I still love the series 5 Nike. :)
Can this cellular watch serve as a hot spot for my laptop while on the go?
No it cannot.
I love my Apple Watch with cellular. It’s great to leave my phone at home or in my handbag and still get my calls, texts, emails and notifications without having to use or find my phone.
Which Apple
