There is a much more permanent solution. Stop buying American cars. Problem solved. American car manufacturers have all the data they need to make vehicles using parts they know will last. Yet they continue building them using parts they know will fail. For example, every single Chevy Blazer / S-10 will have the fuel pump fail. It’s expensive and difficult to replace. This was the only car in my entire life that I ever had to replace this part on. The new part is over $350 and only comes with a one year warranty because Chevy KNOWS it’s a junk part. But they don’t care. They are also notorious for bad ball joints. For decades, Dodge has been putting their 2.7L engine in cars, they even used them in Dodge Chargers. These are the worst engines ever made and Dodge is WELL aware of it. But they are STILL using them. The passages in the block are too narrow for the oil to flow through it. The best solution is to actually rebuild the motor and the person who does it can widen those passages. And they recommend ignore the manufacturer and only using non synthetic oil (10W30) and changing your oil every 2,000 miles or you risk blowing the motor. I could go on and on. So it’s best to just stop buying American cars until they can build cars that last, instead of cars that LOOK good. Honda and Toyota are FAR superior. Sorry not sorry.
Thanks. Resetting the ECM fixed my 2010 Sierra. Fans started acting up this week and temp guage showing COLD. Same display, Engine HOT AC turned OFF. Saturday today, pulled out my OBD scanner but it's so old, it doesn't even work any more. Got a better one on sale and plugged it in. Got a P0128 code saying Coolant Thermostat. I already knew it wasn't the thermostat because I did the rad hose check and the coolant reservoir was cold. Started looking online and found this vid. Here I thought it was the temp sending unit and just wanted to confirm. So glad it was as easy as this.
Hey guys I saw plenty of videos of this problem. I have a 2013 Chevy Silverado work truck with a 4.3L. To keep long story short I had same issue. I replaced thermostat and coolant temperature sensor with Advance auto parts products to fix the problem, and it did but only for 2 days. As I was driving on the highway the message came back. The permanent fix is to replace the thermostat with a AC Delco brand. I have absolutely no clue why the aftermarket thermostat doesn’t fix the issue but I can guarantee the OEM thermostat does the trick. Going a couple of weeks and a couple of hundred miles under the new ac delco thermostat and issue has not come back. Hopefully it stays that way.
Hello I had the same issue I changed the temp sensor and the thermostat at local parts store it didn’t work they kept resetting it but 24 hours later had same message I was about to give up til I read your post and went to my local Chevy dealer and bought original parts and finally got this problem resolved. Thanks for this. It worked on my work vehicle. It always happens when it's cold outside. As far as a permanent fix, it seems that sensors or wiring couldn't be the issue, as resetting the ECU would only result in a very temporary fix. As soon as it sees that problem, it would come back in. Bad ECU or programming, perhaps?
Voila! My big THANK to you, man! It did fix my 2011 Chevy Silverado. The only thing, i have to disconnect a battery, just negative, to reset a computer and clear the message. All works now! Many blessings!

Wow Here I am thinking that I had to go and replace the thermostat or the temperature sensor. I pulled the fuse as instructed waited for 20 seconds and the temperature gauge was back in action. Great video thanks God bless. 🙏
I might add to brush the fuse ends to clean off any corrosion. The fix worked for me. Whenever I pull a fuse I use a small copper or brass brush to clean the metal inserts. It’s saved me money and time on many occasions. Thanks for leading me in the right direction Worked like a charm on my 2008 Silverado

I have this issue in my 2008 Pontiac Montana. I have replaced the temp sensor twice. Pulled the fuse and tada! All good. For a little while. I would love to know if anyone has found a more permanent solution.

Same here, I’m thinking now that it may be an issue with the water pump. I know the pump is working, but I’ve heard there’s a point when the output pressure is too low it will cause this…. I haven’t had the issue again since the video. Good luck. Intermittent problems are always the biggest hassle to troubleshoot
I've had this exact same issue on a 2012 GMC Acadia and the mechanic said there was a short in the wire between the coolant temperature sensor harness and where it goes all the way back to the computer.

Ive replaced the sensor twice and recently did the water pump and thought it was fixed but one month later it came back. We have a means to temporarily clear the code, but I'm here to ask if you ever looked into it further to figure out a permanent fix, as you stated at the end of the video. It gets old to constantly try to reset it. Just hoping. We've attempted several suggestions from youtube videos...no luck so far. First, was two different attempts to replace the thermostat and flush the coolant. Tonight, we replaced a fan control / relay in that same box you were into in this video. Looked like it was gonna work, but nope. Less than an hour of driving and it sent the code again, turning off the AC.
