I have about 150 hours on the simplex. It is a silver magnet !! I found a large silver pendant 11" down in the dirt and I've found quarters as deep as 14" in wet sand !! In my opinion the machine is too chatty in salt water, but it does work. I found a beautiful 1oz silver coin in salty water. And although u can find targets that don't follow a general pattern I have found GENERALLY that nickels are 23-25, dimes 78-81, pennies from 50-68 , quarters 90-91, silver 90-94 and gold anywhere from 18 all the way to 50 . Hope that helps new users. I love this channel and I've learned alot from it myself.
Southern Relics its only good af in dry soil. The Simplex Wont get deeper than 5” on a coin in the wet sand... while a PUlse Induction will get it at 12-14”...the nox on all metal mode and lowest recovery speed setting, then it will get the same depth with the Nox 15” coil in the wet sand (~12-14” on a nickel). Simplex gets deeper than tthe Nox in air tests though, just sucks on beach wet sand bcuz it cant get 7-8” coins in the wet sand
Mysterious Noob Life I pulled a coin 8 inches down with the Simplex in wet SC beach sand back in January when I tested it for the first time. It could have been the way I had it set up and ground balanced. The Simplex is a much better detector than some like to admit. 🙂🙃🙂
Tom Dankowski says that in his mild Florida soil the Simplex is deeper than the Impact, and is for all intents and purposes a flagship level platform. That’s quite a statement. I bought mine used with wireless headphones for $200 with the intent to resell it for say $275. After using it, I’m not parting with it. I like it.
Had a chance to handle a simplex. Have they stiffened the shaft? The shaft on this particular one flexed crazy. Didnt like that to much. Airplane videos? LOL! So do I.
It'd want to be for that sorta $ man! . Personally I love the Tarsacci 8000; expensive yes, but a lovely light weight MD, with massive qualities that speak for themselves. Awesome un-masker. Check out YT Relics 1864 before you decide, Mr Southern has some interesting tests with the Tarsacci that made me veer away from the cumbersome, over complicated, for me that is, 3030., for my particular types of searching..
David L it really just comes down to budget. The simplex in my opinion is the best bang for the buck. If you can afford the Nox800, that’s the detector to get. I have the simplex, but find myself wanting to buy the Nox800.
Hello I just got a simplex. I’m a little worried mine isn’t working 100% right. It seems like when I do a depth (air) test for things like Pennie’s it only goes about 4 inches before I get a very distorted beep that I would never dig. Is that bad? It seems like it should work better than that
New subscriber, Simplex owner. Drawn because of that. Simplex users untie! I meant "unite" dern dyslexia! Ya ya,, very entertaining video, glad I subbed. And i had the Simplex for 2 weeks and the speaker broke , cheaply made, so had to get my money back and i got a garrett sea hunter, thank god, and u can pin point within 2incches by getting the target on the edge of the coil...now i get twice as deep as any LOw freq. machines, besides the Nox with the 15” with the right settings... no other non PI detectors gets over 7” on targets in the wet sand PERIOD
Turn down the iron bias on the equinox and the recovery speed to 2. Do a manual ground balance. Put on auto tracking. SWING SLOWLY.! You got the best right now in my opinion:
With the simplex I'm staring at the depth and numbers alot, I'm also using field mode. Never know if I'm digging a silver coin or a rusty cap. The simplex and the Nox in multi are very similar in depth in my test bed.
I've had both the simplex and Equinox 800, I sold the simplex.. I found the equinox actually went deeper @14" with still producing a VDI number.. The simplex doesn't produce a VDI number over 10" deep.. And I didn't like the flapping lower shaft...
Hi Merrill, really great video! Thanks for this honest i-rate!! I'd love a Minelab - 800 if possible. I don't get the Vanquish - not waterproof? So, are you saying this is the first detector for me?? Or, must one first be good like you before this machine will deliver results?? I'm gonna base my choice on your reply, thanks!! 👍👍👍 One more thing... I don't wear headphone easily - never the ear things with phones - so, is this detector good without headphones?? I'll add - I have acute hearing - I pick up higher pitched sounds way before others around me do so...
AJ you can’t go wrong with either. There is no question that the Equinox is the better detector, but IF you are unsure how much you will use it, you can’t go wrong with a Simplex. The value is ridiculously good! Think about this. In time BOTH of those detectors will be free with all of the stuff that you will dig up and you will never have to pay for batteries.
@@MetalDetectingNYC Thanks Merrill... this is priced right... I can find the money to get this machine!! Thanks for doing the leg work for us... up with I-Rate!!!😁😁😁

Wait when the soil is wet, Then you will get more depth, Take your Nox to the same site & see if the deep signals are coming through in that dry soil? It will make a good video. Gold range for the simplex is 40 & up. I sold about 10 Simpex's & everyone loves it as its fast & locks on targets between the iron & it doesn't make those stupid minelab sounds.
