  • High Force Oscillatory Voice Coil Positioning Stage
H2W's voice coil positioning Stage (P/N VCS12-1000-LB-C) is an open loop system that can be used for high force, oscillatory applications that required sinusoidal motion. The stage is driven by an NCC moving coil type linear actuator and is guided by two ceramic coated shafts sliding within two precision linear bushings. Each voice coil has a 1.2" [30.5 mm] stroke, generates 100 lbs [445 N] of continuous force and 300 lbs [1362 N] of peak force. It can be supplied with springs so that the voice coil will operate as a balanced spring mass system. Digital output linear encoders are available as an option.
    Features:
    - High Force
    - High acceleration available
    - Low maintenance
    - Custom strokes and force configurations available

That is correct. There is no flex in the actual stage. Thanks.

So the stroke shortens as the speed increases... Id love something like this for a pneumatic cylinder pump regardless.

For anyone wondering... the apparent "flex" in the stage is just an effect of the camera's slow scanning rate. I would guess there is little to no flex whatsoever.

what are the force and band width?

Could this be developed into new subwoofer technology? If I could drive a 30" cone from 10 - 60 Hz with 2"+ of linear stroke, we are on a new level compared to powersoft technology

Anyone can tell why is spring used?

I would assume for centering of the voice coil.

I think it is used for damping

This is not much different from the linear actuators in some very old hard disks, with the exception that the linear actuator in a hard disk drive is far more precise (the one in my Seagate ST-4096 is a prismatic one with four linear rails and two voice coils).
