    Pressure canning meats can seem intimidating but with the right equipment it's very simple, safe, and easy to do. Canning clams is a great way to store clams for years in a shelf stable form that is easy to incorporate into meals. In this video I can Gaper Clams but you can can any variety of clam. Watched your video on canning clams, I’ve lived in the Bremerton area for 30 years and never knew I could can clams, I am a canner and will be canning them from here on out.

    Vinegar wipe is key with any meat. Learned that the hard way the first time I canned fish

    Thanks for posting this! I haven't ventured into canning meat yet but I plan to. I've been a bit intimidated by it in the past, seeing how similar the process is to fruits and veggies helps!

    Super cool! I'd love to see you do this for salmon and such; even if the process is similar. :)

    This is a very random question but I’m fishing at Chelan falls right now and I think I see your kayak. If so it has been slow for us, I was wondering how you did.

      I did terrible. One bite. It's been very slow this year. I talked to the fish checker. He checked 15 rods...0 fish.

    Question about the camp stove, do you find yourself having to babysit it towards the end of the canning process, or does it always hold steady at 11 lbs?
    I frequently seem to get a bit of fluctuation, and don't want it to fall under pressure and have to start my time over again. Maybe my weight is wrong?

      I don’t have that issue but I know some stoves will get ice build up in those hoses during long burns

    Not sure if you answered this already but how long will the canned clams be good for?

    • @spiltmilt
      @spiltmilt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have eaten up to 3 years later with no issues

    Is there a reason you use the wide mouth half pints vs the small mouth ones?

    • @spiltmilt
      @spiltmilt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Easier to pack meat in the wide mouth

    just asking... did you get 10 lbs from 2 limits? or did you have more people in your party? We just go for razor clams these days.
    cheers,

      Two people. Two days digging. We didn't quite get limits each day.

    Would lime juice make a big difference?

      You can add lemon, lime, or vinegar to the canner water to keep the smell down.
